Well, a better experiment would be to have the no mod day but without telling anyone about it. My bet is that the final body count in that case would be a couple threads in the wrong forum.

My guess is it has happened already. Mods (just like the rest of us) have lives too. There not being payed to do this, so its kind of "at their leisure" so to speak. My Uncle used to Mod on a couple car related forums. He told me that they usually work out a schedule so a moderator was always on the boards, but at times things come up. With mods being spread across the country (and in some cases like here, around the world) communication can be difficult. Thats not to say they don't care or take there "jobs" seriously, but i doubt most are cancel family plans or a night with friends because they need to moderate.

So chances are that there have been a few rare occasions were mods weren't present and everyone went about there daily lives at eurobricks without ever knowing. So in a sense, this "experiment" might have already taken place long before this thread was created.

Unfortunately, I have to agree that this is a bad idea. I remember this years EB Event when most of the MODs and Admins attended it so very little of them were on. Let's just say that there was a good amount of spam and other problems.

If you use the site as its intended to be used and follow the very simple and fair set of rules, then every day is like a moderator free day.

The fact that people post things like, "hey this is a good idea" really have me questioning your age. Why would you care? Just so you can plan to do something stupid on that day, sounds like a mature adult to me.

Nay, we should have "Moderator appreciation day", where EB members can post MOCs dedicated to their favourite moderator, or write flowery poems about their valiant, swash-buckling efforts.

Good idea, I'll add it to the poll options.

What is the appeal of a day with no moderators?

I've had the unpleasant experience of seeing a once prosperous and well loved website/forum die off because of a lack of admins and moderators. It's a sad sight. I'm not saying EB would completely go up in flames in just a single day, but everyone would have that much more work to try to get things back on track.

Be thankful that we have such a wonderful team to help hold this site together for all of us to enjoy. If you want to cause chaos, do so elsewhere so that others don't have to suffer.

By the way, I fully support a moderator appreciation week, or something along those lines. Heck, I appreciate them being around everyday - and I try to help out by contributing on the forums in a positive manner and not giving anyone any extra work.

You meaning brickfilms.com, ZO6? If so, I remember that site very well.

i have a suggestion. We open up a secret part of the forum for a day, and for the fist x-amount of signer-uppers, they will have to be mods and admins for that sub-forum for a day. Then they can see everything that the mods deal with. Of course, the "secret forum" would have to be accessible to the public, so posts could be made. And after that day, the mods and admins (the real ones here on Eurobricks) could either delete all the spam 9lots of hassle though...) or close the forum and lock it, just to show as a reminder to show what they have to deal with.

Just an idea.

... or send them promo sets, bricks, and rare parts. :sweet:

Keep on dreamin'.

As this has been said many times before this would be a terrible idea.

What? Sending the moderators free stuff? I agree. Besides, Shadows is an (G)Admin now.

But Moderator Appreciation Day sounds fine. Any idea for a date?

Yeah, so he's excluded. :sweet: So I'm all in for this now.

The idea is a good one as the Moderators, RA teachers, Administrators, Fellows, etc. do put forth a lot of work for EB. Going as far as sending them free stuff is too far but I don't know what we'd do. Perhaps some of us should chip in for a gift. As for a date I haven't a clue.

Late to the party but....

If we allow ourselves to have a Moderator Free Day all hell will break loose! The precious rules and laws that keep us organised and sane will be no more, and every man, woman, child and Lego fan will quickly degenerate into acts of primitive savagery! Husbands will beat their wives then cook them! Bricks will be burned and melted! Children will be converted into the new trading currency! Riots will destroy our homes and families! We will separate the links between man and child! It will be a world of torture, suffering and a lust for power! The streets will run red with the blood of billions and the sky turns to ash and the oceans boil! There will be nothing left! Pets will abused and killed while old people get pushed down stairs! Every glorious nation and person on Earth will be torn down as Chaos sets in without a single attempt at diplomacy, democracy, communism, socialism, fascism or anarchy! It will be simply be chaos! Unending chaos until there is nothing left! Nothing! NOTHING! Nothing but pain and fear and suffering and spamming and despair and loneliness and isolation and war mongering and fighting and hate and anger and greed and envy and jealousy and apathy and cynicism and rage and wrath and selfishness and nihilism and Scientology and evil and torment and torture and abuse and savagery and frenzy and carnage and that rough stainless steel that no one likes!

But I do love the idea of a moderator appreciation day, I'd be all for that. Probably not giving them promos or money as some have suggested ( ), but a simple thanks and maybe a friendly competition (for regulars and between the moderators) would be very fun!

Batbrick Away!

I told you I'd get to that last year! You should know I'm about as reliable at going to the post office as you are preparing interviews.

(Seriously though, as soon as I am back home I'm sending the goods  )
