On a side note: I've recently been getting some intel that may suggest that the "girly" city theme is being pushed back to 2012... :/

Oh no. That's bad news for me.

Thank god,

red cars are almost impossible to come by and with 20 something classic space sets it's hard to build even 10 of these rockets. I'll keep collecting the 2007 sets.

At a closer look all 'special' bricks are generic and you don't seem to need much to change the color for any other uses.

There goes the idea that trans-smoke wouldn't be part of the 2011 colour palette. Perhaps its demise has been postponed?

If I recall correctly they had plans to replace it, but at first glance this does look an awful lot like good ol' trans-smoke.

I just had an idea...

The van could do as a minivan and the rocket as a stolen missile by some terrorists (prince of Persia guys)!

Any other pics?

True, but if you'd seen Kingdoms pics ahead of time, would you have been able to tell that the silver and dark silver were new colors? Most of the time a replacement color is meant to fulfill the same function as the color it replaced, and so needless to say it won't be all that different except when doing a side-by-side comparison.

Not that I mind either way. I'm all over that new windshield whatever color it is-- I've been needing a piece like that for a loooong time.

Thanks for the new pic 'The Soup Nazi'. I like the new window piece, but lego could have tried harder on the Satellite. I think these space sets are going to be great sets but not a sucsess for lego. As most space fans dont want city space, but classic space sets.

Thanks, CB

First of all, where are your statistics from? Also, who says LEGO is trying to target these sets at traditional Space fans? They could be targeting them at City fans instead. Or they could be targeting them at non-LEGO buyers-- after all, if LEGO depended on people who already buy LEGO sets for their entire budget, then the company would die out quickly.

While I doubt that fans of traditional Space themes are what you'd call a vocal minority, it's a large generalization to assume that "most" Space fans want classic Space sets. I'm sure plenty of fans of Space Police III will still find some reason to be interested in the Space subtheme of next year's City sets.

Well I really like it.... my town isn't large enough for a Shuttle Launching facility but a small satellite launching/research site? Oh yes!! A definite buy!!

Sorry all I ment was that its just my opinion and hadn't got any offical satictics. I said that I didnt think it will sell very well because I couldnt imagine children getting very excited about these sets but that was only my opinion. I like these sets myself and I want lego to make more. Sorry to cause the trouble.

Thanks,CB

Good picture. I definetly will buy one of these.

I not sure about this set, I do like the van design (hello new postal van  ).....the mini pad and rocket is cute I guess, but I prefer the large rocket pad set .....oh yeah also the shuttle.

Keep on rocketing ! :sweet:

Its good to see that LEGO is trying to use new parts in as many sets as possible (e.g. the use of the octagon plate as the base of the sattelite launcher).

Lets hope that follows through and they use the new windscreen in more sets (or better yet, put it on PAB in both tr-lt-blue and tr-smoke)

Have you noticed that the bottom of the rocket is white instead of red in the preliminary version?

It looks better now, it looks to be the best City Space set.

However I thought the price was supposed to be $16-$17 like the Camper, $20 is really high for a van.

I think I'll try to collect all of the space sets because they are so Awesome, Thought I might get a couple of the Satelite launch platform set (just for the van default_laugh2.gif )

Wow that van is great do I spy a new pice on the bottom off the rocket with the fins :oh:

The mini satellite is pretty cool too :classic:

I have to get at least two or three off these :classic:

I must say, of all the new sets we've seen thus far for 2011, my favorite (by far) is the 5766 Creator Block House aka the Log Cabin on the waterfront. I've been asking for something like this in Klaus's idea thread pretty much since I've been here and TLG delivered in a big way.

Anyone else have a particular favorite?

Within City series, to me is the van at the Space port so far. The police station is nice but for me it is a step back to some extent in comparison with 7744.

The Launch pad is interesting, too.

What I really dislike about the whole City-2011 is that TLG is getting more and more greedy, year by year in offering us minifigs per set. The van I've mentioned has just ONE minifigure.

The passenger train of this year has got only 3 people! Does anyone remember Metroliner or Cargo Railway (also known in Russia as "Shuttle Express" train) - they had 11 and 7 minifigs correspondently. And the last train set full of minifigs was 4560/4561 - 10.

Small town sets in the 90s sometimes had up to 7 minifigs. Now we get only 1 - 2, even many huges sets offer just 1 driver or so...

"Greedy" is a funny word choice. It's not as though LEGO has anything to gain by keeping the minifigures for themselves.

However, it should be recognized that minifigs can be one of the most expensive parts of a set, due to lots of printed pieces and pre-assembled sections. Naturally, there are lots of factors making the production for LEGO sets more expensive these days, so obviously the minifigs (not being a major part of the actual building experience most of the time) are some of the first things to go as LEGO tries to keep prices competitive.

In any case, I don't see what's wrong with this van's one minifigure. It's not a scene that needs more than one minifigure. Unlike a Police set, where it's nice to have both a cop and a criminal, this scene of a person launching a test rocket doesn't depend heavily on multi-figure interactions.
