Derek Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 The new Police sets look great for once! The new parts and figures really spice things up. I probably won't get any except for the figure pack, which looks great! I really love the new dog mold, however, I think it's either a really cheap reddish brown, or the new PoP nougat color! -Derek Quote
LuxorV Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 I can definitly see I'm going to take the 7279 Police Minifigure Collection The new dog (just like the ones my Grandfather always had), the new open back-pack, and the crowbar make it stand out as a real wonder! I can't expect but the best from the 2011 City line Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Ditto! But if they had replaced one of the regular cops in the small set with a detective in new light blue shirt and tie, it would have made a really neat part pack! I completely agree. The only thing good about this new theme is the new cop torso. I noticed the helicopter pad in the first pictures and thought it was funny because that the new helicopter is huge. Do they still make the $10 one from a few years back? Now that would be perfect for this set. Edited October 31, 2010 by The Green Brick Giant Quote
Matn Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 I love that minifigure pack! I wasn't interested in the new Police line, just like the last one, because of the colour change. But this line brings us three new pieces: the crowbar, the backpack and the dog. And the smallest set has all three of them! I have to admit though, at first I thought it was the same dog mould but with a lovely headprint. It's nice to see a new dog mould, then we'll have some variation in our domestic animals collection. Thanks for the pictures! Quote
metalandi Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Thanks for the pictures! For me, these sets aren't very appealing so far. Have to see more pictures of them i guess. But from the first look, i liked the previous police truck much more than this, and we don't need to talk about the police station, the last one was probably the best there ever was and will be, i knew it would be hard to follow up that one. It's not too bad, but i think no new police station will ever be able to mess with the last one (unless it'll be a CC-style building ). But as said, i need to see more pictures, especially from the interior. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Although the sets themselves are nothing wow for me (so similar to the ones a few years ago), that new dog mold is simply outstanding. I'll definitely have to think about getting the small set. Quote
dragunov Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Sadly the new police station is missing what my son love about the last one, the escape feature from the jail cells......the new one has open back cells....easier to breakout of jail eh ? You can always mod the two sets into one. Quote
SilentMode Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 I'm particularly liking the new backpack on the robber, as a few of you guys seem to. I'm trying to build a small army of police officers, so it would have been nicer to have smaller packs of just policemen and just robbers. I've found that robbers/criminals are easier to come by. CommanderFox Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Thanks for the pics The Red Brick! They look like some decent sets! That dog mold is alot better then the old one, thank goodness lego have finally redone it! CF Quote
Commander Laquiet Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Great! A good new collection of sets. I have to say that I love the new Police HQ, it looks very substantial in comparison to the older HQs. The kind of office block part with three floors looks really great for some reason. There's no big empty bits of baseplate like the old one had. Hooray for 2011 city! Quote
Vindicare Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Iwishi hadn't bought the last iteration of the HQ...cause this one is ten times better. The new dog is pretty cool and very German Shepherd-ish. Definitely getting the small set for the same reasons everyone else is. When I first saw the catalogue pics I wondered why the baddie had a red snake...lol. Now poi see it's a crow bar(Lego, why red?). I like having the ATM, more little additions to add to my city. We need a bank now, Lego! So we can have employees to fill those ATMs with money. I guess I'm going to have to search eBay for that blue shirt cop... Quote
Algernon Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Do we REALLY need another Police line? I swear we've had one every year... I don't pay much attention to City though. Quote
Rick Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I swear we've had one every year... I don't pay much attention to City though. Then perhaps it's not a good idea to swear on it. But yes, a Police theme comes around every 2 or 3 years. But as has been said many times before: it's a kid's toy. Kids like police and fire sets. TLG would be stupid not to produce them. The last couple of years TLG has been really good at offering 'civilian' type sets. And whereas I do not like the 2011 Space port sets, it's certainly not emergency services again. And the 2011 summer release promises to be good with a whole new harbor theme. Really looking forward to that. Quote
indyman09 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Ok. It looks cool. But the sportscar in the mobile command center is pretty weird and the truck itself is way uglyer than the last one. Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) Looking at these new sets in hi-res, it's very quick to make irresponsible conclusions, both negative and positive. I just got into City in 2010 and grabbed both the old 7743 Mobile Command Center and the 7744 Police Headquarters, and YET I still find myself checking out that 7288 Police Truck and trying to rationalize spending the money on it. And then, I did something that put it all into perspective, and I'd recommend everyone doing the same: PUT YOUR FINGER OVER THE MINIFIG WITH THE BLUE TORSO. Now, do you still want to pay $44.99USD for it? I think TLG is starting to bank on the idea that the adults will pay top dollar for big sets just to get some of the more exclusive figures (Slave 1 is the perfect example). They could have just as easily put one of the blue shirts into the Police fig collection set, and would have probably made many of us VERY very happy. But... I'm guessing this was a conscious decision not to include them, for fear that they'd lose out on potential sales of the two larger sets. Good business, I suppose, but I'm not going to spend all that money just for a blue shirt and tie, and I'll tell you why: Think of how bad City is at re-using the same torsos over and over and over again. I'm willing to guess that we'll see TLG phase out the traditional black jacket cops and give us more and more of the men in blue either next year or in 2012. We'll get them, perhaps later rather than sooner. Edited November 1, 2010 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
Rick Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I think TLG is starting to bank on the idea that the adults will pay top dollar for big sets just to get some of the more exclusive figures I don't really think the reason the light-blue-shirt-guy is only in the bigger sets has anything to do with AFOL spending patterns. He's supposed to be a chief/detective character. The small set is about chasing bank-/ATM-robbing criminals. This is best left to 'common' police men and women. Besides, TLG was already pretty generous (consciously or not) to AFOLs with the smallest set and included the new dog, the new crow bar, and the new backpack. Quote

Aanchir Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Yes, but don't you think we'll see much more of them next year? Year after next, probably. I predict a Fire wave for next year, in which case I hope LEGO is as gracious as they were in making this German Shepherd, and that they actually make a proper dalmatian (they had an illustration of a LEGO dalmatian alongside the "Build your School" contest in a magazine several months back, adding insult to injury). Other firefighting accessories would also be cool-- I wonder whether the Jaws of Life would be familiar enough to kids to appear in a set... I also agree with others; the appearance of the blue button-down shirt in the larger sets isn't really a marketing decision. After all, City sets are quite blatantly targeted towards kids, so I doubt AFOL interests are a major consideration in their design. Furthermore, one set we haven't seen non-preliminary pics of lacks a blue-collared shirt-- the Police Helicopter (3658). As I've said before, I'm not a City collector. If there were a City "faction" I wanted to collect, it would probably be Octan, which is pretty much a civilian faction and which as a brand stretches across many themes. Still, I take time to appreciate the design of City sets whenever a new wave is released, and I find them very inspiring. Something that bugs me a little is that all the criminals-- even the new one in the jacket-- have prison stripes on. Are we to believe that all criminals in LEGO City have been previously convicted? Of course, I suppose anything else would send an unpleasant message. It's a lot easier to tell a kid "all convicts are criminals" than "all hoodlums are criminals", and the latter is the message that might be delivered if LEGO designed criminal minifigs with just generic dingy clothing. As much as I've opposed arguments that LEGO sets are becoming "too violent" these days or that kids today lack the moral fiber of previous generations, I still feel that LEGO does have a bit of a responsibility in guiding them towards socially-sound mindsets. BrickArtist Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) yeah, i think its nice that they a finally having sets with robbers committing crimes. Every other set has just been cops making arrests. Edited November 1, 2010 by brickartist Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 yeah, i think its nice that they a finally having sets with robbers committing crimes. Every other set has just been cops making arrests. Your quite right In the last wave of police sets, they didn't really show us why the robbers were being arrested. But in this wave, we are get to know why they are getting arrested (eg: stealing the red car in the police truck set, Braking into a cash machine and in the boat set, we see one of the criminals is stealing a jet ski.) It's nice to see lego making improvments to thing as they go along Quote
buddy Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I love the new dog mold with the printing , it looks so realistic! I also just noticed that the Police Minifigure Collection's ATV has blue grilled cheese slopes (part no. 61409), for the first time in blue. ~buddy~ Quote
