The blue shirted police dude looks more like a desk clerk than anything else. Probably why he's only in two sets, the station house and the mobile command.

I don't see a problem with these police sets, they have a similar design and compatibility with the previous releases and just enhance the police force. I'll be combining both police stations to make the most of them. a tiny bit of modification and the police vehicles will all gel as a unit. World city Police station minifigs will give me detectives and a hard criminal in orange jumpsuit.

it's all about creativity. Lego give us a set but it's down to us how we utilise it. fair enough if people want to build it and leave it as it is but I've always taken set designs as a starting point. making modifications, additions, combinations. I don't see the point of having stuff made from inter-connectable bricks with many permutations of connectivity and not taking advantage of that.

I would say if you're happy with the previous releases then save money and just buy any new elements from bricklink. rather than protesting at something Lego do with a set release pattern that's tried and tested and successful. And I aim that at no-one in particular. Or mean offence to anyone. I just think sometimes people forget the point of Lego is to build and rebuild. Play.

Personally I quite like these sets... the new pieces will certainly be very useful!! However the police station is far too big for my layout so I'll probably use it to build a smaller station and use the rest as parts. (I wish that rather than a huge police/fire station every year or 2 they'd release some smaller smaller emergency service buildings (preferably including a doctors/medical centre!!) I'm really looking forward to the harbour sets though!!

Cheers

Anyway, I've seen the new dog piece on LEGO Digital Designer, and it's not that round. In fact, it's a lot more angular than the LEGO cat or rat. But then, if you consider the pig too round... well, I guess you've made up your mind (minifigs must by extension also be too round, what with those egregiously cylindrical arms and heads). So far, the only LEGO animal in recent years which I've been thoroughly unimpressed with was the Camel, with its zero flexibility and its decidedly rounder aesthetic than the horse. And even it was still very angular in many areas.

yes first thing I checked about the new dog when digital designer updated: bricks sit flush on either side. no outward angling like on the pig. Puppy mecha time

It looks nice enough.

Not that I will buy it, but the new policestation has a nicer architecture then the last one.

I don't know if I like the new dog or not, But I like the new backsack very much, maybe enough to buy the little set.

Thank you very much for these official pics, The Red Brick! :classic:

Police Truck :hmpf_bad:

It's much too huge (too long as well as too wide in the middle (8 studs)) and there is not enough interior to fill the huge room inside.

I surely will not buy this set.

Police Minifigure Collection :classic:

It's a shame that the new police officer is not included in there.

For what do we need a dog in there although we'll get the dog's car seperately?!

Two criminals are really too much. Instead of one of them TLG should either have included another police officer or a civilian.

But all in all it's a nice set: the quad and the AMT look good, the new rucksack and the crowbar do, too.

Police Station :oh:

From which I can say of the exterior it looks much, much better than all the police stations of the last more than ten years!

The minifigure included are really ok, the vehicles are great.

The interior seems to be decent, too, but as soon as our high-res hero grogall doesn't post a 360 degree view or at least some detailed pics of the interior, you can't be sure. What do you think the yellow things right behind the right rollergate are? The only thing I fear we won't get is an interrogation room.

And again a dog?! Instead of it TLG should have better included another police officer, a civilian or something else.

All in all it's a great set.

It seems as if I'm the only one who doesn't like the new dog. Imo there is not much improvement over it in comparison to the last version.

But which disturbs me much more is that it's included in three of the new Police sets. Who needs that many (police) dogs?! One it the Police Dog's Car would have been absolutely enough.

Btw: From which I know, the currently available Police Helicopter will still be sold next year, too. And so the helipad on top of the new police station is thought for that heli.

Eight studs isn't bad for a tractor-trailer truck IMO. I'm a firm believer in 1:36 scale for minifig-scale vehicles, which makes the Ford Excursion (a fairly large SUV in its own right) a respectable 7 studs wide. While the Agents vehicles (which I still loved) were waaaaay too large for any City layout, this truck is perfectly all right and fits just fine on modern roadplates. I even checked Wikipedia once for the sort of range of sizes road vehicles could have. The largest road vehicle width by US law is 102 inches wide, which in 1:36 scale comes out to around nine studs wide. This is the largest vehicle size LEGO roads will allow, which I think is perfectly reasonable (especially since vehicles that size are rarely seen within cities, but rather just on major highways).

I'm not much of a fan of many smaller scales, at least not for road vehicles. Four-wide vehicles were good in their time, but (for a specific example) a minivan or SUV that only fits one minifigure is utterly ridiculous. At 1:36 scale, you can get a good four minifigures into a well-designed SUV and still have it a moderate size on LEGO roads.

I hope you know this dog can be used for other things, not just as a police dog. I'm pretty sure you know a lot of people that have pet dogs. Three dogs is nothing considering so many people own dogs as pets. Plus, the K-9 unit of Police usually carry 2-3 dogs in the back of their trucks anyways, so even if you get all the sets, you'll have enough to realistically fill a K-9 transport. :classic:

Klaus-Dieter seems more like a classic-town kinda guy, so in a setting where buildings are built in 6 x 16 footprint size, a 6-wide truck is already massive; an 8-wide is in turn gargantuan. (note: our "6-wides" are actually 7-wides thanks to fenders, and more when you count side mirrors, but Im talking about the frame of the vehicles, so for all intents and purposes that new cop trailer is 8-wide)

I really like these, although they are pretty much the sam as previous ones, especially the truck. I really do love the station, with all the details and a female police officer(FINALLY, LEGO make a female figure with a useful job. I am male, but I find it very unfair how women in LEGO city only ever have jobs like cashiers or assistants, not that they are unimportant, but I mean they never have any action packed jobs.)

I won't either but I fond it more to scale than 7743, I mean the length. The new truck seems well shorter and this works to its advantage.

As for the Police Headquarters, I see some steps back: no moto, fewer minifigs, vehicles are identical, not that different. However, there are some trade-offs...

Is there any word on 2011 sets under the Constuction or perhaps Farm subthemes? Its been awhile, not sure about the poularity of the farm sets, but constructions has to be. After all they are the redundacy factor of Lego: Legos cunstructing legos lol. None the less as a city owner constuction, sets make up quite a site. No pun intended, still nothing new has come out for quite a while... Good chance to buy duplicates I guess?

I must say, of all the new sets we've seen thus far for 2011, my favorite (by far) is the 5766 Creator Block House aka the Log Cabin on the waterfront. I've been asking for something like this in Klaus's idea thread pretty much since I've been here and TLG delivered in a big way.

Anyone else have a particular favorite?

I'm really looking forward to the small minifigure set.

Mr. Timms, I'm not actually looking forward to that set too much . . . it may be because I live at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, and it doesn't look too much like the cabins I see around here. It doesn't have the distinctive log-built look.

While the new police station is not too bad (should switch all those blue into black for me, but that's just my taste) I still wish for a modular police station. 1930s black police car, trenchcoats, tommy guns, fedoras... boy, I'd love that!!

I was just wondering how I could see a picture of this set.

I believe both of those subthemes are out next year. Construction has had it's wave and if there would have been more of LEGO farm we would have seen it this year. Construction will most likely be back in 2012 or maybe not until 2013. Farm however... Who knows when it will be back. I doubt it will be back next year though...

On a side note: I've recently been getting some intel that may suggest that the "girly" city theme is being pushed back to 2012... :/
