I different than you then, I like the open back, but also like the modular style.....nothing wrong with either.

I agree with you their lightningtiger, I too like both styles of building, they both have their advantages.

I like that bank. Wow.

Really sleek building for a typical 6x16er, rare colors used like dark blue helps. It's facade doesn't even need to go 'big modular' style; just make it bigger and put the back wall and it's ready to integrate.

Armored van is prime, too.

How much is this? $50 a good estimate?

While I do like City Lego, I just can't stand these thin buildings with holes and open backs. Will we see more of these giant modular buildings? Any news on this?

I have to agree with some points here. A while back I got the 7993 Service Station and found that the open back in the shop with that set made animating on the set more convenient. However if you are not animating and the building is used for display or a picture, then I don't like open backed buildings either. Looks like the architect got lazy

It's a good thing Lego can always be modded to suit our purposes though :classic:

Thank you very much for the clear pics of the bank and the police chase set, The Red Brick! :classic:

To summarize the new Police wave:

I really like the big palette of new police sets - there's a police set in every size and price range.

I mainly like that there even come some more civilian oriented sets with the police wave (the police chase and mainly the bank) - that's really great!

Which I don't like is that there are - apart from the bigger police car in the police station and the cars in the police truck set - no car doors included in the cars. 2010 TLG did a really good job with including car doors in nearly every car they released (which adds more playability for kids and more authenticity for adults). To argue about stickers: Stickers can be glued on car doors, too. So concerning cars (at least the ones included in the new Police wave), 2011 is a big step backwards.

Btw:

The buildings and vehicles included in that TV commercial look to me much too MOC stylish than that they could be official sets.

But I hope that we'll get some pics of the summer City sets soon (if I remember right, last year we got them at Christmas Eve).

I like the idea of openback buildings with stackable floors, you can always put them back to back.

The only problem I have is the lack of variety so I'll try to mock something up,

It's really a challenge to approach 3 floors + roof and not get into modular territory.

7993 is the only city set that I can think of that dont have a front and back side for ages,

I think you chose the wrong set to complain about.

Back to the 2011 sets the police chase uses this new part only indexed in another 2011 atlantis set:

I'm not sure about the rationale here a 2x1 bow or a 4x1 bow with wheel cutouts to fit minifig scale

would have made more sense to me than a cheezier cheeze piece.

I'm really happy that the bank is not CC-style.

I really like the classic City buildings with the open back.

Houses for Lego City with backwalls are for me horrible (because of this I even don't like the CC-styled buildings that much and don't buy them (apart from financial reasons)).

Apart from that the new bank is built in a very detailed and authentic architectual style (it has some similiarities with the awesome cinema included in 10184) - which surprises me since it's no a 10xxx set.

I think that cargo ship is a brick built hull. The bridge section looks like it has an open space beneath it too whick could sugest a RO/RO(roll on roll off) style with a rear ramp access so vehicles can drive on from the back.

I apolagise if this has been posted before but I have found a wallpaper on the Lego site which features some of the new police sets. The images of the sets are higher quality than I have seen elsewhere.

my estiments are $30-$40 for police chase and $40-$50 bank money transport[or whatever it is called].

I don't know, I think that seems a little steep. I'm gonna say $15-22 for the new police chase and $26-30 for the bank. Look at the new 7286 Prisoner Transport: 173 pcs-$19.99 I figure the car chase is anywhere from 115-190 pcs and the bank 220-280 pcs. The variable in pricing by oieces is the size of certain pieces. Oh well, we'll find out soon enough! :classic:

We all wish you were right. The Prison Transport is just a van and a motorcycle and that's $20. I'd say there's no way the chase is under $25USD. As for the bank, if I had to hope guess I'd say $40USD.

Fingers crossed anyways :classic: Good points though. I may be low balling the the Bank but I'm sticking with my estimate on the chase. Two small cars, a trike, and small street corner don't seem to have many more pcs than the transport. 160ish pcs just for 1 van is alot + aound 13 the bike and minifigs etc. I think/hope it'll be close. Anyone know its est. release? I forget what website had that info and can't seem to find it. Thanks

That bank looks absolutely wonderful - the color scheme is very unique and striking, and the armored car is exactly like I imagined it. I'm especially glad that the interior of the bank has a vault, and the way the set designers incorporated a criminal is brilliant. We're even getting several green suitcases and what looks like a new printed tile of some sort; overall, it looks like a complete deal, and if I hadn't already revamped my old Town Jr bank to look a lot like this very set, I would pick it up for sure.

On the other hand, the police chase is okay, and it will probably be a good present for kids, but just... what is the deal with that trike? I thought we had gotten over the age of silly unrealistic "touches" like that - a recolor of the modern City bike in blue would have been a much better conclusion, and would probably push at least a few older buyers to pick up the set just for that. As of now, it's a fun playset for young lego fans, but hardly up to the level of what we've come to expect from the theme.

So, a hit and a miss, which pretty much describes City 2011 as a whole for me. For every set that I like, there's one or two sets that I'm either indifferent on or just don't like at all. This is in stark contrast to the last few years, where there's only been a couple of genuinely bad sets IMO. :sceptic:

That plane looks really good actually. Very simple but effective deisgn, and not too blocky either. :classic:

Thanks for the new pics The Red Brick and whung!

Ha, I knew it, the bank looks absolutely amazing! Truly a must-have for any city/town layout. The great thing about this also is that with a couple of these bank sets one could actually make a bigger and more appropriate-sized bank.

That airline promotion set looks great, it isn't too blocky and I agree that the design of it is simple yet effective.

Thats a nice airplane. Pitty the only chance I have of getting one will be to pay a fortune on Bricklink or to fly on one of the airlines that carry this stuff (none of which fly to Australia)

The airplane looks quite nice with it's dark blue colour scheme and it's simple design (Kinda reminds me of the classic town jets)

Nice looking plane, certain to fill up the tarmac at the airport nicely. Plus that little guy can't be more than $20USD... right?

That's indeed the best airline promo of the last years. Too bad these won't be regularly available. And, after the bank set, another appearance of dark-blue in City. :classic:
