The first part may be true, but no matter what you say I say that the company is doing us a great service by releasing this set, pray to god it is availible in America. Just look at the parts, there is a tan bag, tan fedora, green bike(!), 2 blonde ponytails, a laptop, a trophy, 2 baguettes, green and red cherries, an apple, a carrot, 2 extra carrot green "bud" pieces, a Popsicle, pizza, blue bucket, lime and orange caps, new dog, crowbar, new backpack, skiis, etc. The list goes on and on! The moment I see this set on the shelf I'm snatching it up! There's too many rare parts in this one set to ignore it!

In another topic, another member mentioned that the impulse sets appear to be missing for 2011. Well that appears that these are the replacements.

Good grief, there's just no pleasing some people.

This set is clearly the latest iteration of the concept behind the Community Workers sets - a large assortment of City minifigures of various roles, intended to help fill out a city population. Just what do you expect from such a set? To me, this set looks like a veritable gold mine - and an improvement over the previous Community Workers sets, since the ratio of civilian townsfolk to cops and firefighters is much, much greater than before. The only minus is that it has fewer people overall, but it does have more in the way of regular bricks to help fill it out, and still has a pretty high number of minifigures.

At first I thought the new community minifigure pack was expensive, but I did some maths: GBP 39.99 for 22 minifigures is roughly GBP 1.80 per figure, overlooking the accessories and bricks. And there are some really useful and cool accessories: the bike of course, as well as the tan satchel, laptop, baguettes etc.

If I hadn't spent so much on parts in the last couple of days, I would possibly get one.

I'll definitely be looking to pick up this new 'community workers' set, if it ever becomes available in Canada.

It is a VAST improvement over past community workers sets...ESPECIALLY since it's not overloaded with trikes!

The single most interesting point about the new Dacta Minifigures collection is the fact that half the figures - 11 out of 22 - are female. There's even a female construction worker and a female firefighter - which I believe are two nice firsts for TLC. It seems that equality between the sexes has finally caught up with Lego!

That is typical for DACTA, more balanced and politically correct - but also pretty generic and overpriced

if you pay the same price for impulse sets you will probably get more extra stuff and if you pay for collectible figures they are at least unique.

I bought some spares from a DACTA DUPLO setand that one is better

- 50% female and 50% children across four families of different nationalities, black, indian, south american and pale blond. Perfect for either a scool or to populate four houses....

Now that I've seen the sets (or at least the preliminary pictures) closer, I can make some judgements about what I see.

I am really disappointed with the Harbor! With all of the containers and things that we got in the new Cargo Train, I really expected a huge container terminal more along the lines of the last Harbor set. I expected a wide dock, possibly even with train tracks molded into it, and a moving Gantry Crane like Launch and Load Seaport, but, really? A grain ship? And baseplates for the dock itself? Or perhaps the worst one; the horrendous crane! Also, the truck is red, which gives us yet another red vehicle, and the dock buildings are blue and yellow, just like the new Bank. Overall, the Harbor is a massive swing-and-miss in my book, and it probably won't be entering my city.

The Marina is OK. I'm not a huge fan of the overall design, with the bridge and everything, and I don't really like the blue dinghy, but we haven't gotten a white and green building in a long time, and it's nice to see the return of the windsurfer. I do like the little watersport shop and cafe above it, but I think that those pieces could have been better used on another boat, making this more of a marina, and less of a watersport venue. Come to think of it, a sailboat or a yacht would have been nice, and it would have offset the speedboat as its own little set.

I like the fishing boat. It's a unique size for this line, (not huge, not tiny), and the colors are unique. I really like how there is a normal fish and a shark for added play, and the two minifigures look perfect for a day on the lake. One thing though, this doesn't look like a fishing boat to me. It looks like a cabin cruiser, and if it is supposed to be a cabin cruiser, there should be more figures (a family on vacation?). The color scheme is nice, and I might be picking this one up.

The speedboat is kinda off to me. It's got nice part usage, with the new back of the airplanes and the hull but the limited stud conections, and very, very round shape, it doesn't quite seem LEGO. I do like the outboard engine detail on it, as well as the two grill parts up front. THe figure isn't great, but that can be changed, and hopefully will be.

So, that's the end of my rant, and, as always, my opinions are likely to change as more information about these sets appear, and who knows? Maybe the Harbor will grow on me...

The Marina looks great for a "parts" kit to build into MOCs. The Harbor reminds me of the Brick Yard 580 kit from the 70s.

The harbour looks great. I'll buy it as soon as available.

In comparison to the previous seaport - the blue ship had good play value, but the container crane was fragile and useless as a play toy. The previous truck was 'meh'.

The crane in the 2011 harbour looks like it will have much better play value. The truck looks better, and the ship is fine. For some AFOLs, it will appeal because it's a retro-styled reminder of sets like this:

Wonder what's coming in 2012? I wondered if an offshore rig will make an appearance? My thinking:

- it's a reference back to a classic set: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=373-1

- it fits with the pervasive Octan sub-theme

- it offers the chance to sell a separate helicopter, supply boat and/or tanker

- it would have good play value (crane etc)

- all the right parts already exist and have been used in sets like the Coastguard tower.

I think an accompanying onshore refinery is less likely due to poor play value, but it's been done before, and it would give the current tanker truck and rail tanker somewhere to load fuel from: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=149-1

My thanks as well to Prateek for the pictures. Unfortunately, my layout doesn't have the room for a waterfront so I won't be getting any of these sets. I like the fact that TLG is trying new ideas and they are great sets in their own right, just not for me.

I like the Harbor set quite a bit. A grain ship is something new and interesting. However, I was really hoping for a return of the old harbor ramps and raised roads. I really like those pieces, and would have loved a few more to add to my collection.

The Marina though ... it looks like we're back to the old "four posts and a window = a building" style of construction that I thought TLC had moved beyond. And that bridge is terrible. There are some useful bits in here, but as designed, it's a lackluster set.

The cabin cruiser is a nice update to the boat found in the classic Sandypoint Marina set. That's one of my all-time favorite boats, and it's still cruising around my harbor, 15 years after I got it.

Overall, it's kind of hit-and-miss for me, but I'm very glad to see these sets coming. I was bummed at the initial wave of City sets for '11. Not that they're bad sets, but I already have enough police sets, and I still have my original Space Port sets, so the early '11 wave held no interest for me. I'm excited about these waterfront sets though.

I'm still trying to figure out which type of haul the new Fishing Boat uses. It doesn't seem to be the same as the new Police Boat's (although that the small frame on the bottom left corner of the box shows a blue longer one that looks like the Police Boat, different from the main photo on the box).

The size reminds me of the 4011 Cabin Cruiser and the box says that the dimensions are 262x191x46. Is it this one or perhaps this one?

i agree with zorbas. the new fishing boat is like a copy of the cabin cruiser set from 1991. and it looks pretty good.

i dont mind the harbor. i dont think it is as bad as some say it is. and i actually see some classic features in that crane. The last one was too big of a hull and some empty space and this one looks better in this size. i dont hate it.

what i hate is the marina..and why is that a marina anyways? it just looks like a confused set with bricks thrown all over the place with no real structure. If it was just the right sight of the building with a couple better boats then it might be ok. But what is it with those stairs??
