For the ones who still think the space shuttle looks ugly I made a LDD model of the prelim picture with closed hatch. It looks so much better in my opinion.

Very nice! I actually like this set a great deal. It's no shuttle adventure, but the Shuttle Adventure is to this what a S@H-exclusive modular building is to a standard LEGO city building. That's more than sufficient in my book.

Of course, it would probably be even more impressive with stickers and such applied. Perhaps I'll reconsider using the Shuttle Adventure as the basis for my planned Mobile Launch Platform and Shuttle Transport Aircraft. This gives me a little more free-reign aesthetically.

Thank you.

The space sets doesn't appeal to me. I don't like the design of them. But nice to see the Atlantis column piece in gray and Malfoys hair in black.

The Police sets are also not my type, looks like the old ones. I will only buy the small minifig set just for the crowbar and the new dog mold, oh and the money tiles

Interesting to note that the space sets follow on from the Shuttle Adventure set in terms of overall style (and in terms of logos/decorations)

The new 2 x 2 round with ribs piece seems to come in red and in what looks like Light Bley in the large rocket set.

The space shuttle has the tail from the current passenger jet but in white.

The van thing has the new windscreen in trans-smoke (YAY, perfect for various car designs I have in mind :)

New dog is great.

White bike is GREAT, as is the variety in cops and bad guys and that crowbar (although I hope the final set has it in a color like black or dk bley and not red)

Negative things:

Lack of variety in headgear for the bad guys (why do all villians in LEGO City always wear the same knit cap?)

Dogs in brown (why cant they do dogs in another color)

Yet another sports car in red (why cant they do more city cars in colors other than red and yellow)

Has anyone noticed on the page with the police truck at the bottom, about December - would that be it's release month for Holland......December 2010....that means we might see the first reviews in that month or sooner !

I'll be getting the police truck and copter too, maybe the minifig pack (hate police quads though - prefer a bike) and dog patrol. Yeah, a new dog mold.....looks more dog like and a crowbar....I could have a few of those for my Mitre 10 MOC !

Not sure if the new police station is better than the old one, some more detailed pictures might help.

Interesting train track pack 8 straights with 32 pieces of flexi-track.....hmmm handy - more straights !

I'm a conformist! everyone ! :sweet:

Quick edit....has anyone also noticed on the small satellite there are 2x2 trans-blue tiles - are they new ? :oh3:

Has anyone noticed that the new shuttle's engines seem to be made of a new part? It seems like the classic semi-conical windshield, only with clip bars. Doesn't it seem odd that they should re-tool an existing part that was re-tooled just this year?

I already commented on all (until now known) first half of 2011 City sets apart from the Moon Buggy (since we didn't have pics til now) and the big police copter (of which I did not even know that it exists).

So here my comments:

Moon Buggy :classic:

although I would have prefered a real moon buggy

nothing exceptional

but a nice small additional set, even with two minifigs

Big Police Helicopter

the yellow pick-up looks a bit <insert that tiresome argument> - hopefully TLG will at least add car doors to it (and changing the color into blue, black or grey would look much better - it's not a public works car or post car)

but it's definately a set which gives us the possibility to let some SWAT unit landing to arrest a criminal - great!

I must admit that I really like it that TLG included a lot more action stuff and civilian stuff in the new police sets (without getting unrealistic, fantastic or ugly-looking)!

So these sets get for kids more atrractive since they include a lot more playability.

And for us AFOLs there are some really nice additional small parts which are great to have in our Lego cities (esp. the civilian cars, the motorcycle, the new policeman's torso and the automatic teller).

Btw:

2. To the Police Minifigure Collection:

Do you, too, see a minifigure with a pink torso standing in front of the automatic telle or do I see wrong? So, if I do not see wrong, there supposably will be only one criminal included and the second non-police minifigure would be a civilian minifigure. Imo that would be great and much more interesting!

1. Something completely different:

Since the skater's/surfer's hair from the Minifigure Series is used as Ron's hair in the new HP sets (and so is not only a to the Minifigure Series limited part) - do you think that we'll get this hair piece in next year's sets (esp. in some civilian sets), too? Imo that would be awesome - esp. if it came in regular brown since this is supposably the most common hair color!

Just looked through these photos, to me most of the sets are terrible, the vehicles have a shape I don't find appealing whatsoever, they have the nose similar to the late 90's early 00's. One thing I noticed that I do like is the white Bicycle, if I'm right, this has only ever been available in one set of town mini-figures back in 86. I will wait till I see official pictures before I make up my mind but I'm not impressed with what I see at the moment. Personally I also don't like the Evil type sets, I think it shows Lego in a poor light, but that's just me. The Space sets are a nice idea, I remember the sets from the late 80's early 90's that I used to dream about, I think these have come close to recreating that! Can't wait to see more images, especially the official ones.

Ew. No. The vehicles are nothing like the boxy, misshapen, printed-front type vehicles we got in the late 90s and early 00s. I think some of the vehicles definitely get a major improvement with the new 6x3x2 windshield, which is the sort of thing we've been needing for a long time. Previous 6-wide windshields were always either the 6x3x1 boxy windshield which doesn't work very well for town at all, or a steep 6x2x2 slope that looked somewhat unnatural on an SUV, much less a basic car. This new windshield has a much more realistic angle and allows builders like me to make realistic vehicles without having to use ridiculous hinge techniques like some of the geniuses here to get the correct angle.

The 4-wide van in the police station set is a bit ridiculous, but the other police vehicles are nice. The van from the Space subtheme is also a nice design. And I'm sure Town builders will appreciate some of the vehicle parts in the new Pharaoh's Quest theme.

The new dog looks like a kangaroo xD

But I love a new backpack piece and crowbar! And small sets with cash!

Is there a new backpack piece? If you're talking about what the crook is wearing, I was pretty sure that was just a tan quiver (this piece). Or are you talking about another piece I didn't notice?

Posted (edited)

that backpack looks more like cloth to me. or a butchered one of these in tan.

in the picture it doesn't appear to be attached via the neck post like regular backpacks. I think it's fair to assume the minifig will have a backpack but new, modified or existing is anyone's guess.

So my hopes and ideas were completely wrong - there will be a huge Harry Potter set for January 2011 and not an exclusive City set. :cry_sad:

I was so much hoping for a new Town Plan styled set. :cry_sad:

And since it's very likely that there'll be a new Harbor theme in summer 2011, this consequently means that we won't see many civilian buildings in 2011, too. Perhaps a supermarket as the July hard to find set (like this year's City House) - but not more.

I really like it that TLG releases these excellent Winter sets (10199 and 10216). But if it's the case that therefore we don't get all the civilian buildings we do that much demand (esp. bank, Lego Store, cafe, hotel, grocery, post office and supermarket) then I would prefer TLG to stop the Winter theme and give us those sets instead.

*drool* ! I sincerely hope they re-launch the theme with new nautical sets. Hopefully, they'll still float like the old ones. We're a getting a new floating Police boat anyway, so here's hoping that a new harbour set will soon follow in the summer of 2011!

...I would prefer TLG to stop the Winter theme and give us those sets instead.

Personally, I'm not so fascinated by the Winter sets anymore. If we consider the Holiday train to be the beginning of that theme - even though it wasn't marketed as one at the time, then I think we can safely say that this year's bakery is the worst of all three Exclusive Christmas sets LEGO have produced this far. I loved the Toy Store, but the Bakery has absolutely failed to impress me. That might however still change when I see it in person...

Speak for yourself... I'll buy a winter set every year until there's a nice little village all nestled around my tree, and hopefully with a beautiful new PF holiday train encircling it. I think they're onto something here, and we haven't even begun to see the best of that series yet.

Since there is a set with an ATM in it, maybe a bank, supermarket or new service station might be on the cards for the second half release, but we will have to wait until March next year to have any idea what is and isn't comming ! :classic:
