krystalKING Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Really? Everybody hates him? I didn't think so... Oh,sorry! as a little update,I have now seen a better picture and it appears he's wearing a respirator on his chest! Quote
Brainbox Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Actually, I wonder if kids even think this guys looks bad. Maybe to us AFOLs he looks bad but for all we know kids may be loving it, My main issue is the peg leg. I like the idea of a cyborg, but they should have used a new helmet, gun, and leg, or at least 2 of those 3. Maybe then AFOLs would appreciate him more. I think perhaps the main problem with using the peg-leg isn't so much that it's a bad piece per se, it's that we all can't help but see it as a peg-leg. We're so used to it being seen on a ya-harr-ing pirate that it looks a little out of place on a space cyborg as a robotic limb. I actually don't think it looks too bad. And if nothing else, our pirates could have swanky expensive new legs! Quote

But since these collectible figs are at a much more acceptable price point, it follows that this one might be more accessible to fans of non-licensed themes. Quote

It may be better just to get the cyborg figure instead of paying high prices on eBay or bricklink. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 the leg may just be pre-limand therefore will be changed later. After all, the Mexican Marachas man had a green Indy fedora in the first pictures we saw. Quote
Notorious Guf Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I've just seen the images of these and a theory I have regarding all the series seems to continue. Every Series has 1 figure that looks just like a family member. Series 1 was my girlfriend the nurse, who is actually a nurse. 2nd series is my sister inlaw the pop star, who is actually a fantastic singer and this series is Me the Gorilla! I actually have a gorilla suit that I make good use of. In all honesty, I'm not too thrilled with this series, there are a couple of interesting figures but most seem pretty bland, I still can't wait to see the official pictures before I make up my mind whether I like these or not. vexorian Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Still undecided about the "B" being a B. It could be a power core. Lack of better res pics does not help. Squidman's head may be a placeholder. Quote
Aanchir Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Still undecided about the "B" being a B. It could be a power core. Lack of better res pics does not help. Squidman's head may be a placeholder. Here's a PDF version of the catalog, with much less blurry pics. It's pretty obvious that the emblem on the cyborg is a Blacktron II insignia. Not your fault; that PDF was originally posted in the general "2011 themes and sets" topic and I've been having to share the link with many people in the more specific theme-based discussion topics. The PDF copy was generated by Mortymore, btw, so don't credit it to me or anything. I actually expect the Squidman head to stay through to the final product-- the less blurry pics all seem decidedly more finalized. But I think the color and printing are different enough from Squidman's that he still looks unique. It might have been helpful if he had more accessories to distinguish him from other aliens-- perhaps the one-cylinder air tank from Divers would have been sufficiently sci-fi to do the trick. Regrettably, the better pics don't do anything to make it clearer what the name of the team is that the baseball player is playing for. Also, here's a side note unrelated to the pics: do you think any of the Series 3 figs will have back printing? Just wondering, since that seems to have become the standard in most themes these days, but it's been completely absent from the Series 1 and 2 collectible minifigs. It seems kind of odd that they'd have more printing than most figs in some respects (i.e. on the arms, toes, and sides of the legs, the first two which only showed up sparingly beforehand and the latter which debuted in Series 2) and less printing in others. not-in-use-anymore Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 the leg may just be pre-limand therefore will be changed later. After all, the Mexican Marachas man had a green Indy fedora in the first pictures we saw. I strongly hope that the peg leg is final, and the green fedora would have been a good addition to the crazy color headpeices (green Count Dooku, White/Lime Green Inferno, Purple Fedora...). I wonder what the Cyborg's head is, I love it when they hide something creepy, like the Robot and squidperson. Quote
Brainbox Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Technically, peg legs in silver existed before this new cyborg fig-- on the Mad-Eye Moody fig from the Harry Potter sets. Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that... But that was still a silver peg-leg, whereas I think we can reasonably assume this is meant to be a robotic limb. the leg may just be pre-limand therefore will be changed later. After all, the Mexican Marachas man had a green Indy fedora in the first pictures we saw. That's true... And the fact that we got the robotic arm mold the other year, it's certainly plausible that we could get a new robotic leg mold. Especially given the propensity for new molds with the Collectible Minifigs. Also, here's a side note unrelated to the pics: do you think any of the Series 3 figs will have back printing? Just wondering, since that seems to have become the standard in most themes these days, but it's been completely absent from the Series 1 and 2 collectible minifigs. I'd hazard a guess that the high number of new prints, a lot of which won't be used anywhere else, would cost quite a large amount of money, and tthat cost would only be increased by the addition of back-printing. Similarly, that cost wouldn't be off-set by the amount of money they make selling the things themselves. That is of course, just a guess. I may be a maths student, but that doesn't mean I'm very good at adding up. Quote
blueShinyApple Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 already when I first saw sries 2 I "knew" that s.3 would be green, and that there would be a snowborder, and I knew that s.4 woud be orange! Quote
escortmad79 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Here's a PDF version of the catalog, Interesting to see the use of the Spartan helmet in the Atlantis 7985 set on page 14. Minifig collectable parts are coming across to the mainstream Quote
Big Cam Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I'm ashamed of Lego including the squidman head in series 3. Its worthless, that fig will be the crash test dummy of series 3. The mummy will fit in nicely with all my zombies though. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Then what will be the spartan of Series 3? Maybe the mummy, or the male rapper? I hope it isn't the tennis player. Oh, and Im pretty sure that series 5 will be red. Quote

Oh, and Im pretty sure that series 5 will be red. I figure the Spartan of series 3 will be the Elf but, with no barcodes, it'll be tough to do any army building and almost impossible for unopened packs, I would imagine. Quote

prateek Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 That sounds neat! I do wish Lego had kept the barcodes though. I don't. I for one don't collect these, so I want an equal chance of getting everything. Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Oh, and Im pretty sure that series 5 will be red. I think there's only 4 series coming out... for now. Quote

Clone OPatra Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Some of these figures look really good. Like the Elf, gotta love the elf. And the fact that the weird outer-space guy has a Blacktron symbol on his torso. Still, I probably won't get any, but LEGO is doing a great job designing them. Quote
Masked Builder Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I don't. I for one don't collect these, so I want an equal chance of getting everything. Well I don't collect all of them. Usually just the eight I like. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I think there's only 4 series coming out... for now. From the sucess of both series, I don't know why LEGO would want to stop making these. Maybe we won't buy much of series 3, but kids will still buy them of LEGO.com. And there has to be one that is red. I mean, red is one of the most popular color. They could have Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange, Red, ?Purple? Quote
Darth Jar Jar Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 They look great but just don't have that wow factor the series 2 and 1 had Quote

The mummy will fit in nicely with all my zombies though. Why is the alien's head worthless? It's just as unique as any collectible minifig head ever. In fact, it's more unique than most, since the Squidman head has never existed in lime whatsoever. I don't see why so many people seem to assume the figs' actual level of quality lines up perfectly with their own personal preference. Quote
