Itaria No Shintaku Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Yes I do see the ears because they are very noticeable. Which was how this whole thing started when you said they don't have noticeable ears. There are no elves in the FF series save for their only appearance in FFI, and their appearance is based on that derived from D&D and Tolkien's work, along with allusions to Hylians from Legend of Zelda. Which I don't know why I would confuse them with this since they resemble Forestmen and they are thieves. And I don't think that is an elf. And it's not even FF. Now stop convincing me to like the elf. -Omi I'm stopping this here because this would get very boring. I won't spend dozens of lines by explaining why now you're accepting the picture I've shown you, with the elf absolutely not graceful and with a face even more grim than the TLC one... the only and last thing I say it's: NOBODY tried to convince you to like the elf. Imho, you act childish by confusing "TLC did a poor job" which you stated before and "I don't like the Elf". That's because in the world there's plenty of people apart from you. So, if zillions of people like the Elf, TLC indeed did a good job, whether you like it or not. And since this topic is full of "I wanna get tons of Elves" and "Elf is the S3 Spartan", it obviously mean that everyone but you likes it. So, if that's the final Elf, TLC, indeed, DID a good job. Then, if you do not like it, feel free to express, but don't mess the two things, because they are pretty different. Quote
Klay Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) I have no idea if it's been posted, but I found pics of series 3! *image #1* *image #2* Edited September 20, 2010 by LuxorV Removed deeplinks Quote
Omicron Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) why now you're accepting the picture I've shown you, Cuz it has noticeable ears? The whole thing I was griping about? The thing you said elves don't have? NOBODY tried to convince you to like the elf. Actually only you have been because I am the only here who doesn't like it, which also seems to piss you off much to my amusement. I say Lego did a poor job because that is how I feel an elf shouldn't be represented as, and if that is just me, then that is just me. So what if I am just a stupid kid mixing up my definitions of an elf, considering they don't even exist so their is no real definition of an elf. That's because in the world there's plenty of people apart from you. So, if zillions of people like the Elf, TLC indeed did a good job, whether you like it or not. And they can like it! I have no problem with that. But when one person says they don't like it, there are people like you who just hammer that person to the ground. And that just isn't right. This is why I don't post much here on EB because everything is so onesided. And don't respond to this post. I'm not even coming back to this. -Omi Edited September 20, 2010 by Omicron Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Can we sidestep the Elven Biology discussion? It has pointy ears, hence it is an elf. If this is going to turn into the whole Spartan/Roman argument all over again, things will not work out nicely for those involved. It could be so much worse, he could be wearing a smurf hat and have a candy cane. Now, back onto general discussion of series three. The Gorilla is magnificent. The Aviator is fantastic. The Cyborg simply awesome and the Boom Box a must have. The rest are all very cool and certainly worth buying a box for. Quote

If this is going to turn into the whole Spartan/Roman argument all over again, things will not work out nicely for those involved. HAHA! I must say, I find this entire conversation entirely demeaning and bigoted towards elven folk as a whole, and regardless of any elf's individual otological appearance, they deserve to be represented in minifig form just like the rest of us! My advice to all of the antagonists in this case to pipe down before they draw the attention of the NAAEP (National Association for the Advancement of Elven People), and then things'll really get ugly. i.e. DUDE, it's a little plastic toy. And you're not even getting upset about the entire toy, just its ears. DUUUDE. Edited September 20, 2010 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
Oky Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 It could be so much worse, he could be wearing a smurf hat and have a candy cane. I wouldn't mind a candy cane piece actually. But of course it wouldn't fit with this kind of elf. Perhaps, in a future series, we could get a "Santa's helper" minifig? Maybe even a new Santa to go along with, with the Angler's beard and a new Santa hat? But I'm getting off topic... Quote

But you'll never read this, will you? Maybe instead of thinking that the world is onesided, think that you are somehow annoying like you were. I honestly don't believe that you don't like the Elf, maybe you just wanted to provoke and talk badly about the one minifig you read everybody loved. My Opinion. Period. I beg pardon to have posted this again, I had to, I won't came on this argument any more even if asked. Thank you. Edited September 20, 2010 by Itaria No Shintaku Quote
AndyC Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 The Cyborg simply awesome Did I see different pics to everyone else? I was really looking forward to the cyborg till I saw the image and it just looks like a bad mix of various generic minifig bits without any of the character of previous minifigs. Hopefully it will improve by the final version. Most of the others are ok, though not quite as must-have as series 1/2. Can't help but wonder if they're already running short of good ideas or whether they've decided the figs have been so popular that they can sell a whole series on the strength of a couple of highly desirable figures and pad the rest out with rather bland and generic figs. They probably developed ideas for at least 4 or 5 series ahead before they started production of series 1 and 2, spreading desirable figs across the series. This series has its fair share of new molds, but like you, I also hope that some of the figs will still improve in the final version and some more new molds will be introduced. Quote

If Lego truly does beat the whole UPC idea for Series 3, and we have no ability to know what's in each bag w/o feeling through them... I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Collectible Minifigs die down in hype and overall sales. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's going to have a certain threshold for how much money to spend on these before giving up on frustration. I'm not going to get stuck with 8 cyborgs just trying to get the last of the collection or something. This round could certainly be telling for the future of the entire CM line. Quote

nausicaakro Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Ehehehhe, i like this series 3, and for me best figs are 1) tennis player 2) baseball player 3) elf i don't like 1) cyborg (a strange mixture... meh ) 2) ape (for me was good the pirate monkey, no need of it) 3) driver (boooooring!) I think that the accessories could change in the final product. I hope for a new elf bow, for a okulele and for a baseball glove. Ok, i know that is just an hope, but come'on it will be sweet... nausi Quote

Well, pointy is more heroic looking and bushy is funnier. I guess it depends whether the aviator is the main character or a sidekick. Is he Maverick or Goose? Quote

Next, I'd like to kick off a heated debate regarding the portrayal of aviator characters -- should they have pointy or bushy moustaches? Discuss. Personally I am not a fan of aviator mustaches unless they look like the Red Baron pizza man, who in turn is secretly Tom Selleck. So the point I'm getting at is when will we see an official Tom Selleck minifigure? Quote
Zorbas Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I've just seen the Series 3 minifigs and some of those look great. I especially like the fisherman, the Elf and the Samurai (it looked like Ken Watanabe to me when I first saw it). The torso from the baseball player is great for the City theme and the cap from the dude-with-the-Boombox looks very beautiful. Is it me or is the tennis player looks pissed off by something? ...should they have pointy or bushy moustaches? Discuss. That "Discuss" was priceless! Quote
Ogre Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Won't happen I don't think. The forestman got a new moulded bow & that's the one they'll use for this one too Huh? I'm looking at the bow from the 'Forestman' and it looks the same to me as the bows that I've got sitting on my shelf from my 'classic castle' sets. How's it "new"? I wouldn't mind a candy cane piece actually. But of course it wouldn't fit with this kind of elf. Perhaps, in a future series, we could get a "Santa's helper" minifig? Maybe even a new Santa to go along with, with the Angler's beard and a new Santa hat? But I'm getting off topic... As soon as I saw that beard, I knew I'd have to get two, just so I could switch it out on my Santa MOC! (and yes, we need a REAL 'Santa hat') Ehehehhe, i like this series 3, and for me best figs are 1) tennis player 2) baseball player 3) elf i don't like 1) cyborg (a strange mixture... meh ) 2) ape (for me was good the pirate monkey, no need of it) 3) driver (boooooring!) Rick Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Is it me or is the tennis player looks pissed off by something? That ball was clearly 'in'. Huh? I'm looking at the bow from the 'Forestman' and it looks the same to me as the bows that I've got sitting on my shelf from my 'classic castle' sets. How's it "new"? It's a little longer (if I recall correctly), but it's basically an updated mold of the old one, like the zombie's shovel which also isn't exactly equal to the regular shovel and the chicken leg which has a longer 'bone'. But I wouldn't call those 'new' either, but alternatives or updates of existing designs/molds. Quote
Ogre Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 The torso from the baseball player is great for the City theme Good point. At first, I was just thinking of it in terms of the typical 'baseball team' but, what about fans sporting their favourite players jersey? Heck, you could even have a whole crowd of them standing outside a sports shop, waiting for an autograph signing. Quote
Vindicare Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I'm fairly excited about these. But, I'm kind of bummed to see so many familiar things. In S1and S2 we saw all new accessories with almost every character, here...we have alot of repeats. Quote

Okay... so you're basically assuming that the majority of buyers (or at least, a substantial amount) are AFOLs or net-savvy kids. And perhaps you're right. But if those people stop buying these (and I doubt they will), I guarantee you that kids will take their place-- kids who don't necessarily care whether they get an army of Spartans, but who instead just enjoy the fun of getting a new minifig to go with their LEGO sets. When LEGO first used the barcodes, they didn't expect people to identify the minifigs by the barcodes. The fact that they didn't intend this is evident in that they're removing the barcodes. Assuming that they had prior research and focus group testing to indicate that the collectible minifigs were a feasible idea to begin with, that means the figs were expected from the beginning to be profitable with or without barcodes. I see no reason to assume that the figs would never have sold to begin with if not for the barcodes, and I likewise see no reason to assume that the barcodes are necessary to selling the figs. Quote
