Captain Blockbeard Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 But calling him a space pirate is an interesting idea since that's basically what Blacktrons are. This is probably the point I was attempting to make. Until I see a better image of the figure, it appears to merely use a recolored peg leg piece. That could either be equated to Cyborg appendages or simply to peg leg. In the latter case, this figure could simply be Lego taking the idea of Blacktron as space rogues and stretching it to Blacktron as "Space Pirates". I'm not arguing either way until I hear Lego's official name for it, but for now, I'm just commenting on people's instant assumption it's a cyborg. Quote

He has a robot arm, so he's a cyborg no matter what LEGO decides to call him. Unless, of course, he's completely robotic. But cyborg is one of many generic terms for humans or other organisms with mechanical or robotic body parts. I'm not sure what LEGO will call him, but "cyborg" and "space pirate" are both generic-enough terms that LEGO could apply them without confusing people. I'm sure they could probably come up with others too if they felt like it. Heck, he might be a generic "space crook", or an "evil astronaut". Chances are until the website is updated (which will be a loooong time from now) we won't be able to verify the official name. Quote

CorneliusMurdock Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 First elf ears and now cyborgs... C'mon I thought we were supposed to be arguing about mustaches! Just kidding. I would like to see a clearer picture of the cyborg but I do think he looks good from the pictures we have. Quote
prateek Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I agree. Him and the sumo are the ones that could really use better pics to justify their existence Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I'd like to get the Cyborg, Pilot and Mummy, posibly the Fisherman, Racer and Samurai if I have some money left over. I don't like the Rapper, Gorilla or Native American. I do not like the Alien. Mummy-Has cool printing and looks like he's ready to jump out and say BOO. Fisherman-What Santa does on Sundays. Rapper-Not enough bling, and weird sunglasses(can't see the legs). Racer-I only want it for the hair. Gorilla-Just looks silly(not the kind of attracting silliness of Ninjago, bad silliness) Alien-Looks like a few recolored parts to fill in where an Artist could have been. . IMO. Quote

David Thomsen Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 (edited) I wonder if it's possible to accurately predict what will appear in future series of minifigures, now that we've seen three and kind of know what to expect? There have been lots of 'what do you want to see?' discussions, but not many 'what do you actually think is likely?' Sports figures... soccer player with ball; golfer with club and ball; hockey player with stick and puck. Historic figures... Greek philosopher with tablet, Roman legionnaire, Scottish highlander with claymore (reusing the Islander girl's skirt as a kilt), girl in dirndl, boy in lederhosen. Music figures... guitarist, keyboarder, violinist. Space figures... different kinds of alien; retro-type space adventurer like Flash Gordon. Western figures... sheriff with rifle; prospector with pick axe, gold ore. City figures... fireman, builder, businessman, graduate, reporter, etc. etc. forever. Fantasy figures... wizard, king, prince, princess, queen, knight. Or, any of those with the word 'dark' in front of it. Pirate figures... pirate, redcoat, bluecoat, male Islander, conquistador. Random figures... absolutely impossible to guess, hence the term 'random'. Edited September 23, 2010 by David Thomsen Quote
whung Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Add a bit information: Set number of Minifigures Series 3 is 8803. Source: http://www.klocki24.com/lego-8803-minifigs-lego-minifigures-series-3.html Quote
Itaria No Shintaku Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Sports figures... soccer player with ball; golfer with club and ball; hockey player with stick and puck. Soccer Player would be a repick.. so hockey player! Instead, I would rather see for sure a football player or a volleyball player! City figures... fireman, builder, businessman, graduate, reporter, etc. etc. forever. Alas I'm pretty sure they would do a fireman.... Figures they wouldn't surprise me are: someone from cooking theme, like chef, waiter, etc cameraman tibetan sherpa arabian sheikh or fighter roman senator (they would not do a legionnaire imho) with toga foil fencer (PLEASE LEGO DO THAT!!!!) sandwich man with lego advertising skeleton or ghost, or frankenstein, or wolfman to keep on the horror trend mine worker cruise boat captain WWII army man, or western army man like the western theme (they did the tribal hunter, the chief, the cowboy, now they will go after the us army man) farmer with fork what do you think about those? Pretty sure you won't see any war themed minifigs. Lego seems to be avoiding war themed sets for a good reason. The closest you can get to official Lego WW1 or WW2 army is the "bad" men in Indiana Jones set Quote

Aanchir Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 But a human with prostetic legs or arms are still half human, where as cyborgs are completly robotic. I always thought the distinction was whether the arm or whatever was just mechanical (in which case it's just a person with prosthetics) or whether it was actually robotic (with a neural interface and all that jazz). Being sci-fi, I think it's incredibly likely that it's more than just a prosthetic arm. On another note, unlike a lot of people, I actually like the alien. While I was hoping for something more like the microfig from UFO Attack, I always felt that the squidman head felt like something out of a B-movie. Giving him a lime head and black eyes with white pupils furthers that appearance. I'm a bit unsure about his outfit, but since we haven't gotten much detail in preliminary pics I can't really evaluate that. Quote
Bobskink Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 To bad, this wave sounded very good, but when actualy seeing it it's not that great. I think most of the minifigs mis a litle personality. To bad. Quote

I was hoping for a new Willie hair for the Hula girl, the Hermione-like hair limits turning the head(wich will be replaced by something else by me). Quote

AndyC Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Seriously, I don't get all the hate for this guy (except from Klaus, that was expected ). He's a pretty neat fig to me, and I would have thought people would be stoked to get a new, detailed blacktron fig after everyone geeked out about Rench from SP3 having a blacktron torso. But calling him a space pirate is an interesting idea since that's basically what Blacktrons are. For me I think it's because that doesn't seem to "fit" with what the collectable figs have been all about. If you pick just about any other fig, regardless of whether it's a particularly exciting one, and show it to someone with no interest in Lego at all they can instantly tell you what it is supposed to be. That makes them interesting as a collectable in it's own right, even if you don't have a particular interest in any given sub-theme. Even the most mundane figure, like the diver, at least has this appeal. Once you start down the road of having to explain, "Oh he's a Blacktron figure, they were big if you were into space lego in the 90s" the interest in them disappears quite quickly. You might as well go back to collecting Star Wars figs, as at least they're more widely recognisable. Quote
Oky Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I'm not saying the little "B" on his chest is what makes the figure special. People will still say "Oh, he's a bad, half-robot space guy" or something and will want to have him. I just expected more enthusiasm from the AFOLs on this site, but oh well. By the way, I don't think these "What do you want/expect to see" discussions belong in this thread. This discussion is for Series 3 only, I believe. Quote

It's a mini-theme for lego collectors and fans of lego both obsessive and casual. Some other customers might pick them up for giggles, but basically, it's for lego buyers. So it makes sense to have some minifigs that appeal to those of us that are long-time fans as well as those casual buyers who aren't obsessive like us. IMO, it's silly to state what is and isn't Lego. It is what it is. Quote
