prozac Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I ended up going to the TRU I called earlier(and they said they didn't have any) and there was 2 boxes out. The dots are hard as hell to figure out. Didn't have the list anyway, so I randomly grabbed 10 between the 2 boxes. My randomness was horrible: 3 Baseball players 2 chiefs 2 gorillas 2 cyborgs 1 Race car driver I was kinda pi$$ed. Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Found my set of 16 in New Orleans. I'll see y'all for series 4. and yeah, the dots aren't a very clean identifier, but they're a start. Edited December 1, 2010 by SpiderSpaceman Quote
Tyleraf Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I was just at my local TRU at they had two boxes of series 3 minifigs! I was able to get the two tennis players I wanted and I am going back tomorrow to get some more. Just a note I live in So. Cal Quote
tazosaure Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I've been checking at my local TRU every other day here in the bay area since black friday and they finally had 2 boxes out today, someone had obviously beat me to it but I still managed to get most of the minifigs. I'm missing the race car driver, tennis player, hula girl and samurai. The dot system, depending on the packages, is hard as hell to decipher! Some packages were really easy to identify, some had dots that were barely visible, others had no dots at all or dot configurations that were not in the list... Quote

My randomness was horrible: 3 Baseball players 2 chiefs 2 gorillas 2 cyborgs 1 Race car driver I was kinda pi$$ed. I wouldn't be too disappointed with that selection. The baseball player's one of the figs it makes sense to have multiples of. And as a fan of sci-fi themes it wouldn't hurt to have two of that luscious Blacktron cyborg. The duplicate tribal chief is pretty much the only one I'd have trouble making use of. I still say anyone who has the time ought to try feeling the bags for the figs they want. If you were just popping into the store in a hurry, that's understandable, but a lot of the figs seem like they could be identified by feeling for specific contents. From my experience, the Wal-Mart style of box is most convenient for this (a vertical display box with a bunch of little "cubbyholes") because it lets you sort the figs as you go through them. So, for instance, I can place figs I already have in the top and figs I don't have I can set aside (or place in the top if I come across two or more of a fig I'm only interested in obtaining one of). Joebot Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 The dot system, depending on the packages, is hard as hell to decipher! Some packages were really easy to identify, some had dots that were barely visible, others had no dots at all or dot configurations that were not in the list... I found two mostly full boxes in the TRU in Schaumburg, IL (Chicago suburb). I had the same reaction to the dot system. It's not nearly as simple and clean as the barcodes. I got what I wanted, so it does work, but it takes a while. Some of those dots are tough to pick out. And the differences in the pattern between, say, the hula girl and the rapper are verrrrry subtle. But still, thanks again to the fan community for finding this system in the first place. Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Interesting concept: Cygnet over at Ugly Duckling at Bricklink has created a Google map to track all of the various sightings of Series 3 figures in North America and beyond. What a great idea-- if you find them in your location, put up a pushpin and then we'll all be able to observe the spread of the S3 distribution. The write-up and map link can be found here! exon_from_youtube Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) I have not opened them up yet but the two bags I got today feel like I have the rapper and the race car driver... any of those rare or they both common Rochester NY Area, 3 TRU have bags Edited December 1, 2010 by exon_from_youtube Quote
rakky Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Hey this might sound a bit angry, although it's not at all, just wanted to say could you stop calling football soccer!!! :) Football was created long before American football and therefore we should come up with a new name for that sport instead of renaming the original. Also Lego is a European compnay so they would definitely say American football player I reckon. Also I would so much prefer an american football player then a football player So i really hope in the future they will do one. Quote

Tried to PM you, but I guess that won't work until you have more posts. I'm in San Jose and I've had a PM or two with another local, Cara. He/she went to 3 different TRUs in the area and found some. I have yet to go, myself. I wish we had regional forums for things like this, but then again it would be a pain since this site covers most of the world. Quote

LOL I my self like the fact we get all the cool stuff first, but they (other side of the world) get the news first.... it kinda like yin and yang of the lego world.... But then again... even if I post at 2am in the morning, most of the time my threads and posts dont get hit back untill the next day it seems..... LOL But its all good... I rather be on a world forum then a local area network... I get to see a level of lego art that I dont see in the states... Them guys down under really have skills..... The inspiration from world forums is just greater for me... I learned how to do SNOT and other things thanks to this great forum Quote
rakky Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 We got series 1 and 2 first over in Europe, looks like it's america's turn this time Quote
blueShinyApple Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 We got series 1 and 2 first over in Europe, looks like it's america's turn this time series 3 IS coming to Europe. I asked in a store here in Sweden, they said that they will arrive in spring 2011 Quote
Etzel Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 series 3 IS coming to Europe. I asked in a store here in Sweden, they said that they will arrive in spring 2011 No one has stated otherwise, of course the rest of the world will get them too. And we won't have to wait until spring either, January is a hot tip, both on S@H and other webshops. Quote
estephano (DE) Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 As for Germany I was told today that series 3 will most likely not be in stores until mid-January since Lego has it's season holidays until January 9th and will start to roll-out series 3 after their season holidays. Nevertheless I'm still hoping for a box to show up in Stuttgart before christmas. I'm so crossing my fingers Quote

The inspiration from world forums is just greater for me... I learned how to do SNOT and other things thanks to this great forum Oh yeah definitely. I was referring to sub-forums for countries/regions like we had on a car forum I go to sometimes. It would make it so you would have discussions in just your local area, like for local events and stuff. Or maybe things like which stores have what. But I can't fully say I would want it, because it may lead to some things being hidden away, like awareness about promos that only happen in one country/continent. Quote

SpiderSpaceman Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I forgot to say, so I bought my 16 figures, and my mom had ridden with me so she tried to get a few figures my little brother and sisters wanted (they wanted 4 to 5 each). Then we got a couple more to round out the number (buy one get one half off sale). We got out to the car and sliced the packs open with first aid kit scissors to make sure we hadn't grievously misidentified, but just on the ones I had bought (as it turned out we had a lot more hula girls than we thought ) Anyway, when we got home we ended up having all the right things but somehow overlooked the rapper my brother wanted. My mom was inventorying her extras and an extra we accidentally got was the blacktron cyborg. Being a lifelong star trek fan she geeked out: "Oh COOOOOOOL! I'm keeping the borg!" I think that's Mom's first minifig. Can I get an "Aaaawwwwwww"? (I'm calling it, her second is going to be Jack Sparrow ) Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) I can confirm another East Coast purchase :) It was hard to try and pick them all out, so I actually bought 18 and tried my best to find what I could by using the dimple crib sheet method. Long story short, I am VERY PROUD to announce that out of 18, I received every one except the Space Villain and the Rapper, and received a second elf and a second hula girl. In fact, I even checked them again once I got home (and before I opened them) and was able to identify an extra sumo and an extra pilot-- so I was able to not open them, and can return those two and perhaps grab the rapper (I'm not sure I even want the cyborg to be honest). SO... long story short, the dots work if you have a sharp eye for detail. I was actually very short on time and was able to accomplish this in just over ten minutes in the store. AND, with the BOGO 50% sale, I paid only $42 for the whole batch. Very pleased with my Series 3 experience-- and to all a good night!! Edited December 2, 2010 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
tiggerkiddo Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 If anyone is curious in Colorado, I was able to find two boxes at the Toys R' Us in Westminster. I didn't have much in the way of time so I had to do my best to check the dots and yea, they are a bit tough to make out but I was also in a hurry. Out of the eight I want, I got 2 (Elf and the Baseball player). I also got 2 Hula Girls (Thought I was getting a Borg!) and a tennis player but they can be traded for figures I want. The elf is a real cool figure, I love how nice the printing came out on his outfit! If they want to keep doing fantasy characters, give us a fairy next time! Quote

I then am very happy that out of the last 2 posts no one got a rapper... I had 8 in the box and did not want to be that jerk that bought the last ones... so I picked up two.... but as I was doing the crush one of the store people walked over to me and gave me the BS that I was going to break them..... I then just walked away with my two that seemed to not be doubles..(that would have sucked if the only two I got came out to be the same... LOL) when I got home and still did not know what was in them I figured out one had a helmet and a hair piece and the other just had what seemed to be a briefcase(turns out none this year have a briefcase, so it is 100% the boom box) YAY... first outing and I scored a rare... I am stoked it did not get nabbed out of the empty box before I got there Quote
