SilentMode Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I'm sorry if this has been posted before, it's a hard question to search for, but is there a definite or 'proper' way to put on the hula girl's skirt? The stock picture doesn't have the same skirt, and the instruction says nothing useful, so it seems to be entirely guesswork, but the way the holes are placed makes me think they had a particular method in mind. A lot of the review photos I've seen place the slit at the back corner, but it makes more sense for me to place it at the front corner, which is more in keeping with real slit skirts (just google image search 'slit skirts' for plenty of examples), and doesn't hinder the minifigs movement too much. Ideas? Try this: First hole - left leg (facing you) from the front. Second hole - right leg on the side. Third hole: left leg from the side. Quote
Gregorovich Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I don't know if this has already been answered, but does anyone know if series 3 are available in either Argos or WHSmith in the UK? Quote
Shieldwolf Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I stumbled upon Series 3 at the Lego store last Saturday, and was surprised since I didn't think they would come out till at least Sunday there. So base don the knowledge that 1.) I had no idea if those boxes would be there tomorrow (surprisingly, there were 4 rather full boxes), 2.) I didn't have much money, and 3.) I forgot to look at the chart... >_> So I bought 5, and tried to check the dots to least get different ones (still got two rapper/DJs, but the pants and boombox is useful). Also got the sumo wrestler, the tennis player, and the mummy. Overall, a fairly good lot, though I wish I could have gotten the elf, fisherman, or the baseball player...oh well, next time. Quote

nzkiwiman Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 After a tip off, found these locally at 'The Warehouse' in Mosgiel, New Zealand Even though all Lego is 20% off, these where full price ($4.99). Couldn't find any bumps or dots at all to indentify the bags, so I did a bit of feeling and walked away with what I hope was a few I wanted. It didn't really work and now will have to head back in the next few days to starting fdeeling those bags up properly. Quote
David Thomsen Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) ...walked away with what I hope was a few I wanted. It didn't really work... It's actually not as hard as it looks once you get used to it. Here's what I learned... First, move all the pieces to one end jiggle the bag so all the smallest pieces fall to the bottom. If nothing falls, move all the pieces to the other end and jiggle the bag around and jiggle the other way. It's very easy to identify several of the figures within a few seconds this way. The 3x length bar is unmistakeable, so you've found either a Cyborg or an Alien. Look for the legs to determine which one it is - pegleg, or no pegleg. The Cyborg also has a visor, as does the Race Car Driver. Look for the round brim of the Driver's helmet. The Baseball bat is slightly thicker, and has a thinner, bumpy handle at one end. The maracas and the microphone are very similar, but the microphone has a ridge around it. If you're not sure, look for the ridges of the Hula Girls hairpiece, or the rectangular boombox of the Rapper. The Ape's banana is... banana shaped. The Sumo Wrestler's trophy is easy to identify also, very small and with a base. The Aviator and the Snowboarder both have goggles. Try looking for the round brim of the Snowboarder's helmet, or the Aviator's backpack. The Tennis Player's racquet is another unmistakeable item. That's eleven minifigs I could identify within seconds. The others gave me a little more difficulty, at which point it's necessary to start searching through piece by piece. Often it's easy to find the Mummy's scorpion. The tail and pointy claws are unmistakeable. The Samurai's sword is flat and flexible. The Tribal Chief's spear is one piece, easy enough to identify, although for some reason I always had trouble finding it. I was only able to identify one Elf, I actually strongly suspect someone got there before me and took them all, but missed one. As such I'm not really sure how you'd identify one quickly, the bow and shield are both flat and can blend in easily. Same with the Fisherman, although I'm not sure why anyone would take all the fishermen. Maybe if you've got a big harbour or something... Even if you're looking for one of the harder to find ones that doesn't have small pieces that fall to the bottom, it's still a good idea to try to find the small pieces anyway, just so you can disregard them. Also, be gentle! The tab of the Aviator's backpack is easily bent, I know this because my girlfriend bent one while we were looking. Fortunately it was one she wanted anyway, and didn't mind the damage. Edited January 3, 2011 by David Thomsen Quote

Cutty Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I scoured through my town's main shopping strip this morning and tried to dig up some series 3 goodness. Nothing! The store owner in the last shop I visited told me then, they wouldn't be out in Germany until late january... drats! However, he DID have a freshly opened box of series 2... Which is now devoid of hoplites and missing a witch and a mariachi (didn't even need to unholster my cheat-sheet... to quote "The Matrix": "I don't even see the code, all I see is..."; you get the idea ;) ). Be well all! Cutty Quote

meyerc13 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Also, be gentle! The tab of the Aviator's backpack is easily bent, I know this because my girlfriend bent one while we were looking. Fortunately it was one she wanted anyway, and didn't mind the damage. I'd like to emphasize this. I was using the dots, found what I was almost sure was the aviator and gently started to feel the package. Unfortunately, someone before me hadn't been as gentle and I could distinctly feel that the backpack had been bent clear over, probably broken. That's why I still don't have an aviator. Quote
fred67 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 It's actually not as hard as it looks once you get used to it. Here's what I learned... . . . Good advice... I was, with 100% accuracy, able to get exactly what I wanted. First trip to TRU got an elf and the tribal chieftain... the elf is quite obvious with the bow and while the square bases that each figure comes with can make it hard to find the shield, it's quite obvious when you do. The chieftain's spear is also unique, it's long and thin without much else, unlike the fishing pole. The big clunky headdress confirms it. The second trip, this time at the LEGO store, I was there with my son, and me and my big beefy hands were able to find another couple of elves (another for me, and one for him), two samurai (another one for each of us... look for the blade... long, thin, and with a unique handle), and he wanted the ape-suit guy, and the banana made it clear... That's 7 for 7 with 100% accuracy. I can't tell if I was correct or not, but the aliens and blacktron guy were also quite obvious. Maracas and microphone are confusing, but the Hula woman has 2, while the rapper has the "box." Quote
Zeya Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) I finally had my first foray into brick-and-morter bag fondling two days ago. TRU had a New Year's Day "buy two get one free" sale, and it's repeatable. So each series of 3 minifig packets you buy you're getting for the price of two. The math worked out to $2.90 per bag, including tax (assuming you buy in multiples of 3). Luckily they had some new boxes at the front. I ended up going about 2 hours before closing and they still had a healthy amount out. The staff at this TRU was very familiar with us bag-fondlers. Here's a bit of back and forth: Me: [Fondling a bag] "You know what I'm doing, right?" [so they don't think I'll axe murder them] Employee: "Oh yeah." Me: "You don't mind if I look through these for a while, do you?" Employee: "Oh yeah, no problem." Me: "So, how many crazy people like me have been in here today for these things?" Employee: "Dozens." Later on one bored employee even picked up a stray bag and started feeling it. He said "I think this is the guy with the shield. I can feel the shield right here." Anyway, I ended up buying 3 bags earlier in the day (just made sure they were unique among those 3) and then 15 at a trip later in the day, spending about 45 minutes feeling bags there. The second batch of 15, I had 6 duplicates! This was my first time out doing this, but I was still surprised at my errors. End result is that I'm missing 4 figures: fisherman, hula, cyborg, and race car driver. I'm going to return 3 of the duplicates (they DO allow returns on these right??) And I'm going to hang on to 2 duplicate elves and a pilot, maybe to sell later. I see elves selling for about 9 bucks on BL. I think on future trips, I'll just buy like 40 packets, take them home and decode, and then just return the ones I don't want (unopened after identifying). ---- Some responses to previous posts... I just bought all 16 from Bricklink - easy peasy! I'm sure they'll come to my local stores eventually, but this saves me the trouble of spending awkwardly long time at the LEGO shelf feeling each bag. I was thinking of doing that. Do they sell them MISB (sealed package) on BL? How much did you end up paying per unit? (I need 4 particular ones myself...) I got the Lego Jan 11 mag, and it had said the minifigures are on the 6-9th of the month? I thought they are out on the first or does the online store have it out first, followed by the Lego stores (it was on page 42). I was at my local Lego store (Santa Clara, CA, USA) to buy an Imperial Flagship and they had a box of the series 3 out on the shelf, and this was on Dec 31st. I was surprised to see it, but it was there. I didn't buy any because I spotted it as I was ringing up and I was with 2 friends I didn't want to hold up with a bunch of bag-fondling. LEgoDad said this : "Usually, the new items are already in the LEGO Store and just waiting till the first of the month to put on the shelves or they might have put some out already. Call your local shop. Looks like some of the NinjaGO sets are already at Target stores in the US and in shops in the UK and Ireland according to BrickSet. On the LEGO Store calendar, looks like they marked January 6th for the Collectable MiniFigs, but usually they'll put 'em out right at the beginning of the month. " I was at TRU on Jan 1st and they had a small impulse NinjaGO out on the shelf. It was a black ninja with some sort of wall of weapons near him; a really tiny box. I was surprised at the price by the way and thought it should have been a couple dollars cheaper. Lego Store in Birmimgham, AL. I have yet to see any Target (or any other store, for that matter) sell these. I'm always checking when I go to Target and Walmart near me (San Jose, CA). In the past 2 months I have yet to see a trace of minifig packets. I don't even know where in the store they would keep them. I always look in the Lego aisles, the front by the baseball cards, and on the racks at each checkout aisle. Nada. Edited January 3, 2011 by Zeya Quote
fred67 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Did I miss discussion about production and distribution? From what I understood, TLG realized they made a mistake in N.A. when series 1 sold so well... they changed distribution a bit for series 2, but the production cycle was apparently already completed and they couldn't do anything about the total quantity produced... So has anyone heard anything about the production of series 3? Quote

Zeya Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Has anyone else noticed the utter lack of extra parts in series 3? In s1 and s2, they would include an extra visor, extra statue accessory, extra ski pole, etc. But I have all but 4 of the s3 figures and haven't seen any extras at all. Quote

In s1 and s2, they would include an extra visor, extra statue accessory, extra ski pole, etc. But I have all but 4 of the s3 figures and haven't seen any extras at all. That's the first thing I noticed - my very first S3 figure was the rapper, and I was surprised to see just one mic. None of the figures have any extras, and I think this is a precedent. Quote
VenVoi Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I'm going to return 3 of the duplicates (they DO allow returns on these right??) Yep, they take returns on these within 90 days and with a receipt in my area. I had to return an extra rapper my friend gave me as a gift. On a side note, I'm surprised at how much bag-fondling I've had to do for this series as opposed to just using the ID system. I've more or less gotten used to simply identifying Minifigures by touch and using what I can make out of the bumps and dimples as "confirmation." It's worked on all 7 I've gotten so far. Quote
