fff Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 (edited) I'm hoping to pick up the Temple set on Black Friday... Here still no sign of new atlantis or pharaoh quest... Edited November 26, 2010 by fff Quote
exon_from_youtube Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I like city my self, but that roman building if it is at the store when I shop ever I will pick it up.... I like the details in it... I dont mind out of normal theme sets my self because its all about parts and hints in the instructions on how to use certain elements correctly or just plain ideas for what you can mod out with the box set... ya all dig? Aanchir Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Just got the Angler Attack set at the Rockefeller Center LEGO store on Friday, and built it yesterday. Some news I don't think was mentioned in the review (could be misremembering) is that the white decorations on the anglerfish's stickers glows in the dark, just like the white printing on stickers from the first year of Power Miners. The anglerfish warrior is nicely designed. His head is kind of soft but not rubbery-- more on par with the consistency of Pirates swords or the minifigure whip which also appears in the set. Being a larger, more solid piece than either, it is scarcely flexible, but is just flexible enough to bend slightly to the side and let one of the legs bend back. Also, his head piece has a hole in it so you can see the printed "mouth" on his chest-- but this is almost impossible without directly lighting the minifigure from in front. Otherwise, the mouth is obscured by shadows. My brother and I were sort of disappointed that the "treasure key/guardian" pattern from the Atlantis guardians, warriors, and shields is not present on this guy, but it's not like we didn't see it coming (it does appear on the hammerhead and crab warriors, thankfully). The diver is much cooler than I anticipated. Even though his torso decoration doesn't feel quite as intricate as the previous year, it still feels like it has a suitable amount of detail, especially with addition of dark red. Also, looking in the back of the instruction booklet, I was surprised to find that Bobby Buoy doesn't appear in any of the sets we've seen. Instead, there's a new diver with some kind of goggles, including an "scope" or something over one eye. He appears in the drilling submarine set. The back of the instruction booklet also has nice pictures of the other sets which reveal that the City of Atlantis set has a stickered piece with two Atlantean warrior decorations. The warriors have bare, muscular chests, the Spartan helmet, the shield from the walker set 7977, and mermaid tails. And they are entirely gold. What a pity these figs do not actually seem to appear in the set! I would love a chance to get more mermaid tails in any color, and furthermore these would make wonderful minifigures on their own! It's also still hard to tell if the Golden King is meant to be a real person or a statue (or, as a compromise, a living statue). His eyes are like regular minifig eyes, and his mouth/facial hair is hard to interpret, especially with his helmet on. On a note probably nobody here cares about, the Portal Emperor helmet from last year is just black with a color treatment over top, just as many "metallic" gold parts in Collectible Minifigures Series 2 (as well as many older gold parts) were tan with a color treatment over top. This explains why there is no MaterialID for the "speckled gold", and thus why it cannot under any circumstances be used on LDD. I may or may not change the armor on my digital Portal of Atlantis set to black-- I currently have it as 148 Sand Yellow Metallic, a decent placeholder if not the actual materialID. Anyway, my brother and I have tested and found that the yellow visor looks gorgeous on the Blacktron minifig we made with Rench's torso from Space Police III. Unless we buy a bunch more Raid VPRs, we can't exactly make "troops" for the collectible minifig Space Villain to lead, but we certainly will be making good use of the Atlantis theme's transparent yellow parts next year! ---Vertea--- Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 excellent pics! Can't wait to see hi-res of the Temple and drill set! I think that I like the new print on the new atlantis diver torsos- it has a more classic sci-fi printing look to it. Anyway, I'll likely be getting at least one of each 2011 Atlantis set if it kills me. These are some genuinely exciting sets! Quote
Sulfurix Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I looked at the pictures of the new diver in the instruction book for Angler Fish Attack. He appears to be Brains, the Power Miner's scientist, but with a new set of glasses! It would be awsome if he was. Quote
Masked Builder Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Wow those sets look a lot better in those very nice pictures. I may have to get the seabed strider. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 has anyone managed to find hi-res images of the temple set and drill sets? Quote

Masked Builder Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) You wouldn't happen to have the price for it would you? I'll embed the pictures for every one else. Edit: Whoops! I didn't realize they were so big.... Edited November 30, 2010 by Masked Builder Quote
krystalKING Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 So it appears I was wrong, the key is trans-purple! Quote
Rocketbilly Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) That's great! I like how the submarine in the set has it's name painted on the side. It appears to be called "The Artemus/Artimus" after Artimus Rhodes, maybe? Wasn't he the character who originally went off to explore Atlantis and wrote the journal about it that we can see on Lego.com? Will/Rocketbilly Edited November 30, 2010 by Rocketbilly Quote
jonwil Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Of all the 2011 Atlantis sets, the temple is the only one that interests me because of all the columns. Quote

Algernon Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Looks good. Lots of useful parts and neat construction. I can't seem to shake the "Spongebob" vibes though, for some reason. Personally I'm more interested in the big sub. Do we have any high-res pics of that yet? Quote
---Vertea--- Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Here's a link to theDrill sub. I like this and the Temple set more than any of 2010's atlantis sets, I think Quote
Oky Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) Wow! Thanks for the pics! This set looks beautiful! So many great parts and play features! Looks like turning the key causes the stickered podium to open and the hoplite to emerge! I'm so getting this set! Here's a link to theDrill sub. I like this and the Temple set more than any of 2010's atlantis sets, I think There are some interesting pieces in that set as well, such as a pearl-silver unicorn horn used as a drill on the little robot, and what appears to be red 3-plate high cheese slopes right behind the canopy. And I agree, these two sets are so much better than what we have seen in this theme so far (except for the portal) even though I liked lime better than yellow. I like that set a lot. Really digging the clean SNOT construction methods being used here. Do we have prices on these yet? Quote

Zarkan Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Ppppurple key? Okay, as if I wasn't already so convinced of this set's awesomeness... this is the best set of January 2011, hands down. Quote
jonwil Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Is that a red grooved column piece on that drill sub? That means 3 known colors so far, white, tan and red. Also notice the dark red crab (new color AFAIK) Quote
user Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 There are some interesting pieces in that set as well, such as a pearl-silver unicorn horn used as a drill on the little robot, YES! I've waited for a drill part to put in a robot minifig arm forever! Especially since I recently started making some underground-pirate creations recently this will be perfect! Quote
ZO6 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I completely geeked out while looking at the high res. pictures of the temple. As is the general consensus - the set is an amazing parts pack. Those new column pieces are long overdue and are going to be brilliant for mocing with. There is a a bunch of other neat parts in interesting colours too. I'm loving the minifigures in the set, I think that the lobster guy is perhaps a new favorite of mine in the entire theme. I personally don't like the new yellow/red colour scheme as much of the old, however having more parts in the trans yellow is always a huge bonus for moc purposes (particularly for making good old Blacktron stuff). The sub is actually pretty well designed and not a throwaway like many vehicles in large sets. The temple looks like a lot of fun. Being a fan of course of tricks and traps I'm glad to see that the set should have lots of playability. This set has just become one of my most anticipated of the year. I can't wait to pick it up! Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I am speachless! Ok I am not... This is the best set ever! I love Mr. Crabbyarms! The key flips the guardian statute down and then he reveal something. I wonder what it is! Also this: Hey look it's a treasure! What is inside doc?! A dead fish... Quote
