Klaus-Dieter Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) Thank you all very much for the pictures and links! The Ninja minifigs look great! But all the rest is a come-back of Exoforce! Perhaps it's only because I dislike this theme, but: I can really not imagine that teens in the age of how they're shown on one of the pictures will collect these minifigures and play with these sets. In this age either Lego will play no role for them anyway or they want Star Wars, Technic (, perhaps still Bionicle) and some of the Exclusives. Apart from that I wonder who will be that crazy to buy 10 Euros for only one minifig, a small baseplate, some playing cards and accessory that we mainly do already have anyway (even if perhaps not exactly in that color(s))?! not-in-use-anymore Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 The dragon's ok, but I won't get it for some silly jester zombie. It does remind me of the Vikings sets, except with really short names. Quote

Klaus-Dieter I collected Exo-Force sets well into age 17, and am still a fan today. After this year's Brickfair I thought to put together the Hybrid Rescue Tank set I purchased the previous year at the Running of the Bulls, and I thoroughly enjoyed it-- so much, that it rekindled my love of Exo-Force and inspired me to gather up all our Exo-Force figs, then try designing battle machines on LEGO Digital Designer. What you don't seem to understand is that not everyone buys LEGO sets for their stunning depictions of modern and historical subject matter. Some people buy it because the cartoony aesthetic of the minifig, the imaginative nature of modern themes, and the timelessness of the toy's versatility are great jumping points for imagination. All of the action themes you seem to revile are ones that I have collected more passionately than most more subdued themes like Castle and City. I'm 19 years old, and have been an attentive collector of sets my whole life, including (and here's where you will probably stop taking my opinions seriously) the BIONICLE theme from its beginning in 2001 until its end this year. These themes, including Power Miners, Atlantis, Space Police III, and Agents, are the ones I find most inspiring. And while I like building real-life stuff like my dorm room on LEGO Digital Designer, I recognize that the real creativity lies not in simplified scale models but in innovative action features, imaginative and fantastic subject matter, and the complex storytelling which can be found in pretty much all of today's action themes. And that's something that has been pretty much standard, even in far-fetched 90's themes like Aquazone (a favorite from my childhood). LEGO is different things to different people, and it's not the LEGO Group's job to tell people what sort of building and playing they are supposed to enjoy. LEGO has done a great job entertaining thousands of kids each year, and action themes have been a strong part of that. Quote
prateek Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 At least Ninjago makes Exoforce sparkle like a diamond. And I guess those Ninja minifigs will be ok. What! Exo-Force was the best theme in the past 5 years! I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.... Quote
Delta 38 Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 (edited) Hey, I just noticed something... Look at the images of the sets, and then at the individual minifigs. It seems that in the sets the torsos will have a logo on them, but in the individual minifigs they have "proper" torsos, such as robes and stuff. That's the confirmation I need, I'll be buying both the sets and the minifigs. Unlike some people, I don't mind the logo on the torsos in the sets. They're probably training clothes or something. Anyway, they don't look too bad to me, and now I won't mind having two of each type as the torsos will be different. Did anyone notice that the individual skeletons also have different faces? That's a nice little addition. The armour is also quite nice. I wonder whether I should get that dragon or the other set the white ninja comes in? They look to be similar prices, but one contains the strange faced skeleton that I rather like... Edited September 25, 2010 by Delta 38 Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 (edited) The only set I might buy would be the skeletons fortress if the finish product looks better also did anyone notice that the Dojo and Arena look like there each 1/3 a battle top arena? p.s.what does the Nazi Skeleton on a Chopper have to do with this theme? Except I was 17 when I started collecting Exo-Force, it was what prevented the (rather odd accepted definition) of a dark age. The years between 15 and 17 had been Knights Kingdom II then I moved onto Exo-Force. Ninja-Go is just another theme that is my sort of thing to have! Quote
squidman85 Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 (edited) I think, that there will be more training "centre" parts, because they can be joined to each other(i think everyone knew it already). Asortment of weapons in "minifure+trading card" sets are pretty lame-many of them have katanas, sticks(mostly),bones, pickaxes, flails and spears. And what kind of weapon do the Cole have(stick with clips)? P.S.Are the nunchucks made by two pieces(small chain+new gold stick)? Edited September 25, 2010 by MantaMan Quote
Baylego Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but the skellies have new arms! I was pretty happy about this until I saw the hands were sideways. It seems that TLG can't ever get the skellie arms right! The arms that had the hands facing up made me very happy when they came out in 2007, but I thought that they would have been better if they were bent. Now they make bent arms with a good thickness but the hands sideways! It is tiring that the design gets closer to the best deign each time, but then something major is messed up! I am hoping that since these are prelims, the hands will be upright in the final. I also think the dragon will be pretty cool, and this might be the only set I get from this theme. Also, does anyone have prices yet? This will decide most of the theme for me. Quote
Jargo Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 (edited) Only some of the skeletons have sideways hands. 2114 - chopov, 2115 - krazi, 2116 - bonezai, 2267 - un-named. The rest in the main sets have normal hands. The skeletons in 2519 appear to be tan. could just be the lighting but it would be nice to have tan skeletons. Jargo Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 (edited) the large skeletons including the four armed one have regular hands, yes. So skeletons in sets 2504, 2505, 2519, 2258, 2259, and 2260 have regular hands and the skeletons in sets 2114, 2115, 2116 and 2267 have the useless sideways hands. you can split it this way, the skeletons sold as singles with cards have sideways hands and the skeletons in the bigger, boxed sets have regular hands. if you choose to ignore the game aspect and just buy the main theme sets all your skeletons will be normal. Aanchir Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I'm happy with the new skeleton arms no matter what way the arms were facing. Proportions, versatility, and consistency with other skeleton parts were my three main problems with the battle droid arms. Now those three aspects have been amended, and I'm sure LEGO will probably go the next step and design a variant with perpendicular-facing hands in due time. Quote

Yes, but I do not want the main sets, just the skellies by themselves. Oh well, I will just use the arms on my General Grevious since he needs sideways hands. Quote
Zzz Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 What! Exo-Force was the best theme in the past 5 years! I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.... I like EF a lot, no worries. But it got bashed here a lot. Just thought that people might stop bashing it now?! cheers Quote

squidman85 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I hope that there will be purple or orange ninjas. Quote
Corvus Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 This theme is a mess, in my opinion. There's just too much going on. In one set, there's a ninja being chased by a skeleton with a helmet riding a chopper... and in the next there's a dragon, and in the next there's target practice. I just don't get what it's supposed to be. Is it like the fantasy-era castles were, but with ninjas? No. Is it futuristic? Not really. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Watched much anime? It all makes perfect sense if you take a cross section of many manga and anime. Ok, so I do read a load of wacky manga and watch even more insane anime. But ninja, dragons and skeletons on choppers do appear at times. Quote
