Hey, that reminds me, whatever happened to the skeleton bowling (or whatever it was called) set? After we saw the first prelim, it was gone in the catalog and now gone here. Although I don't plan on getting it, it's a bit strange. Maybe the set was cancelled or moved, though I kind of doubt a set would be cancelled.

Something that I think is a little strange is that some of those cards depict skeletons that don't exist in the sets, such as the skeleton with the helmet. It's even stranger to note that some of these skeletons don't exist individually either.

Mmh!

I like the overall appeal of this line. Upon seeing the finalised versions though, I feel there's too little variation of figs. Especially between the stand-alone figures and those of the boxed sets. There practically the same! Leaves me a little disappointed.

It would have been nice to get some generic skeletons without much deco for army-building.

Getting myself some ice-dragons doesn't sound so good anymore considering I'd have multiple skelly-jesters I do not need... Even more so, since I already did some custom ones I like MUCH better than this line's. But that is just one example off the top of my head.

Conclusion: Nice line with nice parts and figs, but too little variation between figs!

Thank you very much for these pics, prateek! :classic:

In general I really find that theme  !

The only two sets which imo look good (and would - with some changes - got very well with a new Ninja/Samurai (which TLG should have released instead of that stupid theme)) are:

2504-1.jpg

2516-1.jpg

Apart from these, the Ninja minifigs look great - esp. the one with the long beart and the tan hat!

I like, that there will be some nice hats, like shogun helmet, black army helmet(i hope it will be in card set)and new asian hat.!I very like training center set(a lot of nice pieces:gate doors, brown relief pieces, red slopes, etc) and the white pieces are looks better with the stickers(you can make some temples or hoses from them).I think that small training set can compact with other training sets, because it have some joints(those training sets look more asian).Fort set also looks good, mostly for large castle pieces and some purple stuff.

P.S.

I agree with you that, for someone who prefers historic themes, the Dojo and Ninja Training sets are pretty amazing and show us "what could have been". I myself, I'm not drawn too much to this theme-- yet-- but I still find many of the set designs attractive: yes, even including the ridiculous skeleton-tech. Also, is that a dark brown barrel in the Ninja Training set?

The Icedragon is also pretty cool. The fact that it's largely brickbuilt is definitely a positive aspect. And the head is beautifully designed, even if it's the main part that's not brickbuilt. I love that little orange beard, and the little banner on his back!

I'm definitely not drawn to the tops. Even if the game is as cool and fun as LEGO's making it out to be, being an adult I'd never find any time to play it or anyone to play it with. Better to get the larger sets if I find myself interested in the minifigs or accessories (although the tops have at least a few that aren't in larger sets so far).

As I've said, the higher cost is probably because of the specialized packaging. Custom blister packaging that shows off pretty much everything in the set is a lot more expensive than a regular cardboard box, hence why LEGO stopped doing that inside of the front panel of large sets like they did in the mid-90s and earlier.

The Samurai fellow in Garmazon's Fortress has to be-- who else?-- Garmazon, the big bad himself. Evil samurai-sorceror? Sounds cool to me. I also love the ample use of medium lilac (dark purple) in the skeleton vehicles and fortress, even though as an accent color there's not a huge variety of pieces appearing in medium lilac. I see 1x1 round plates (also appearing in the HP Diagon Alley set), 2x3 wedge plates, 1x3 curved slopes, those 2x4 Racers fairings, and 1x2 slopes. There's also some of those weird 2x2x2/3 rounded slope pieces, but I think those also probably appeared in the first and second years of Knights' Kingdom.

I dont like them so... I am looking for more traditional japanese stuff, weapons, stickers, chromed parts but I cant see. They should forget this "skelton Bike".Its laughtable. They should go back to old ninja theme -with new parts and design. And the prices are... hmmm ill

The blue clour is simple blue, or something else?

But the little setts have a good ninja feeling.

So much mixed feelings. I love and adore those new Ninja minifigures but the rest of the entire theme concept just doesn't get into me. I am a Ninja lover and this entire setting will pose a problem for me to integrate. I will need to evaluate the playability and pricing altogether. It's gonna be a costly 2011 with other ongoing themes around.

I'm a little afraid I'll be having to pick up my least favorite set of the theme for a handful of parts:

The Icedragon has those ridiculous knuckles (also on top of the cockpit of the new drilling submarine), the big white copter blades, and on the off chance the flag is printed, I need that too. Happily the figs and weapons are a welcome addition, and the clear blue rocky slopes (like on Crystal King) would be great to get - actually I'm sure it's a fine parts pack even for hinges and basic parts - I'm just not gonna do anything with the bionicle style super-detailed parts.

The only worry is budget, really. Might just pick up the few new parts on bricklink.

Two new sets I just discovered that were never mentioned in this topic, both with high-res images. One is still a prelim image unfortunately, but one is both high-res and official.

2520 Battle Arena

???? Drago Fight (Seems to be an impulse-- since there's no box art I don't know the set number, but the image that it does have is surprisingly finalized).

Each color of ninja seems to have a different emblem. The emblems match symbols we've already seen on the Ninjago teaser site.

You can always amass multiples of each ninja color and pretend they're different factions fighting each other, like in the good old days. I think if you just leave out the skeletons, spinning tops, and more sci-fi/fantasy aspects, there's not much difference to the old ninja sets.

Let's deeplink it then, shall we?

It looks pretty neat. I think it might be a promo set. I hope it will be easily obtainable since it is the cheapest way of getting a red ninja along with those new "knuckle" pieces as SpiderSpaceman calls them.

Good idea! Why didn't I think of that? It will be costly though, but I do want three or four of each now that you mention it.

Are these final? The skeletons and package designs keep changing.

I don't see what keeps changing about the skeletons... but any image without a "preliminary" watermark is almost certainly final.

An example (probably the only one I can think of at the moment) would be the skeleton with the motorcycle. Originally it had a black helmet, which was later removed (page 28). The armour colour also changed to red, I think. That image looked pretty final, but then on the next page the box shows the original skeleton with helmet. I know the first time was a preliminary image, but still...

About the new sets, the small impulse-sized set is rather nice if you want to collect multiple ninjas, which I now plan on doing. It's a bit more practical than buying multiple individual ninjas or the other sets. The arena set isn't too special, though I like the left part which might go well with the dojo set.

I will probably buy all the Skeleton sets(except the minis)also I think the small Ninja sets combine with the Ninja Dojo.P.S.wheres the set with the wooden dumbies?

I hope that fire wyvern-bird is not a promo.Nice little set.

I don't very like arena set and i don't like the idea of combining ninja side with sceleton side. But there are some many accessories and weapons and ninja side looks cool.

That pretty much sums up how I'm feeling about this theme. I love Ninjas, and those prints on the new Ninja figs look awesome. I also really want some of these new weapons (nunchucks and shuriken especially), but the whole concept of this theme is kind of a turn-off, especially if it those tops, cards and that packaging drives the prices up too much... :sceptic:

Yes, you are probably right. The only problem which could stop me from doing this is the rest of the unwanted elements which are packaged altogether like those spinners, cards, etc, that is of no complete use to me, could easily drive the price upwards making it even harder for me to get the desired minifigs in decent quantities. I am only interested in their new weapons and the Ninja minifigs, not so sure about those skeleton counterparts though. :sceptic:

One way or another, some of the vehicles do remind me of those Exo Force assault tanks.

Exactly the same sentiment that I am worrying right now. :cry_sad:
