ziljin Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 The new skeletons look interesting. More minifigs for my undead army! And of course these would be my first Ninja minifigs. Quote

MightySlickPancake Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 thanks for those r4-g9 and Tohst. It all looks looks really nice. But not worth getting. Thanks, CB Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Flag is printed. Well, that clinches it. I'm going to have to buy this. which happily does mean I get my dragon knuckles and I don't need to buy an expensive top to get my throwing stars. Edited December 14, 2010 by SpiderSpaceman Quote
The Crazy One Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Man I love that torso! The joker skeleton looks great aswell. But, I reckon I'll settle for the spinner pack. Quote
Aanchir Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Man I love that torso! The joker skeleton looks great aswell. But, I reckon I'll settle for the spinner pack. I don't think anyone should "settle for" the spinner packs, given how much less economical they are than the regular sets. Unless the spinner packs have weapons you decide you need and you can't get in any other sets, I think it's best to try getting the larger sets and leave the spinners for the kids who might appreciate the "game" aspect a lot more. ~~~~~ I'm still kinda iffy about the new skeleton torso. The thickness of the spine bothers me a bit, as well as how much the shoulders stick out. And I liked how the older two torso styles were flatter and simpler in design, much like a regular minifigure torso. Still, this fulfills all the demands I tend to make of a skeleton torso, and the main thing I loved about the old torsos are still applicable with this one: it could, theoretically, fit inside the "skin" of a regular minifig (besides the shoulders, and there have been problems with those on every skeleton torso design). Also, a flaw with the old one has been amended here: minifig torso armor can fit on it without wobbling, due to it being slightly thicker in the center than the old skeleton torso. In any event, I'll have to warm up to this one, and I still feel the ideal skeleton would just be a Fantasy-Era skeleton with Ninjago skeleton arms. ~~~~~ Also, that Flickr reveals that the dragon armor, in particular, has the names of the ninjas on it. Perhaps this applies only to the dragon armor and not to the regular ninja torsos? If not, I can see how a lot of army-builders may be disappointed. But of course, I'm not an army builder, so it doesn't really change whether or not I'll want these sets. The dragon parts are also very cool. I hope people will come up with many creative uses for the new transparent fluorescent blue cheese wedges. Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 The dragon Ninjas look amazing! I may need to get all of them. Nice dragon set too. Quote

Baylego Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Agreed. That set should be max $15. It doesn't even come with the helmets that are shown in the cards? It might be worth the money with the helmets since they are rare ones, but not without. Quote
Aanchir Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Agreed. That set should be max $15. It doesn't even come with the helmets that are shown in the cards? It might be worth the money with the helmets since they are rare ones, but not without. Again, you're paying for the packaging. It's not like LEGO's deliberately trying to fleece the customer-- however, they are focusing their investments for these sets on making them stand out on store shelves rather than on putting more "product" inside the package. And that can be taken as a good thing or a bad thing. It's the same thing they have done for years with the BIONICLE theme, only slightly less value ends up with the consumer because unlike with BIONICLE canisters, the packaging of these Hero Factory spinner/figure packs is not reusable. In fact, there's not even any value in keeping it once you've bought the product. Not all buyers think in price-per-piece, though. And despite my own opinion of these figure/spinner packs as a poor deal, I have to say that it's smarter not to think in terms of price-per-piece. That sort of thinking reflects neither the value of the set nor the cost of production for the set accurately, unless you assume that all parts are of equal value and that the sole reason for buying new sets is to increase the quantity of your collection. And if that were the case, the most active discussions here would be on tubs of bulk bricks. Time will tell if this is really going to pay off for LEGO. Will the number of people driven off by the price be made up for by the number of people who might have ignored the sets entirely if they had simpler packaging? I can't predict this stuff. I can, however, do as I have been doing since the start and encourage AFOLs to just ignore the single-figure packs (or two-figure starter set) and instead buy the larger sets which have almost the exact same content and are more interesting anyway. EDIT: Sorry to double-post, but has anyone seen this? Don't know the person who owns that photostream, but they have plenty of Ninjago pics. This one stood out as a set we had never seen before whatsoever. It's the Fire Dragon! EDIT 2: And here's the Earth Dragon! There are several other never-before-seen sets and figs I won't bother linking. Edited December 15, 2010 by Aanchir Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Excellent stuff Aanchir! gorgeous display but a little tricky trying to separate out the sets from the lego scenery. looks like a temple, a bridge, the two dragons, and a monster truck. ridiculous gold weapon in a fire fountain in front of said gorgeous temple. I also like that we've got extra options for getting Garmadon. and there's the new bighead skeleton, with a hideous single piece head/nubby armor - but he seems to have a removable, minifig compatible, oversized samurai helmet, because he appears in one set with the straw hat, and I believe it is the same mold elsewhere with the huge samurai helmet. Baylego Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Yes, these are sweet! Both of those dragons are lovely. That temple at the very end is awesome. If that is a set I absolutely want that. Quote
Oky Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I think these deserve to be deeplinked! Fire Dragon Earth Dragon NinjaGo Temple They all look great IMO, except the Fire Dragon which is a bit too much like the Ice Dragon. The Earth Dragon is neat though with all those brown rocky pieces and olive green fins! The temple looks great as well and should be a hit among history nuts! Quote

ZO6 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Wow, hold the phone, is that temple expected to be a retail set or is it a moc for display purposes to promote the line? (I check this thread all the time for news, but I could have missed if that temple had already been announced... and if so I apologize). It certainly looks pretty slick (and shiny ) and combined with all the other ninja faction sets would make for one very cool training area. This is bad news for my wallet though, I've gone from not wanting to buy any sets from this theme to needing everything from the ninja side Edit, I think I'm answering my own question a bit with this, but there seem to be some new parts and stickers with this set, so I guess that about confirms its legitimacy? SpiderSpaceman Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I'm pretty sure the fins are regular green. Lego_Hero Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 The starter set with a blue ninja against a skeleton was on the shelf at my TRU along with a $6.99 red ninja "impulse" set. I'm not paying the ridiculous amount they wanted for the game set, so I opted for the cool red ninja. When I got to the checkout line, the cashier said her computer was telling her she couldn't sell this until January 1st. That's never happened to me before. She asked another cashier and he asked a manager. She said they couldn't sell those yet. I told the manager she had a whole display at the end of a shelf and more boxes mixed in with other lines, but she refused to sell. Being a middle-aged man towing a two-year old, I didn't push it. I heard the menager telling someone to pull everything ninja from the Lego shelves. Call me crazy, but that just makes me want to buy that set even more! Oh, it will be mine! Quote

The_Box Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 @ Lego_Hero: that same intance happened to me at TRU on Monday. There were even lego reps in the store and one of them said I was lucky to get the starter set. However, when i brought it to the register the cashier said they couldn't sell it until January. After this problem, they took all the starter sets off the shelves. I just wonder why they would even put that out if they couldn't sell it yet. I also talked to the lego reps about other stuff, like Series 4 CMs and why Slave 1 is so expensive. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 The temple has too many interesting printed parts not to mention that beefed-out katana to be just a MOC Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Dra-dra-dra....DRAGOOOONS! They are so beautiful! Aspecialy the Earth one- great colorsheme and great pieces! and is this a skeleton with monocle? Classy! Edited December 15, 2010 by Lordofdragonss Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) and is this a skeleton with monocle? Classy! yes, and a (seemingly) removable, minifig compatible oversized samurai helmet... but then again it's probably not as oversized as I thought. The big old head throws me off.
