The Crazy One Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) I doubt the Temple is a MOC as it ( correct me if I'm wrong ) has the exclusove golden sword infront of the door. Looks official to me. Good point about the Spinners Anchair, but in the long run, I reckon I will pick up the skeleton ones for an army. Hey, Samurais in minifigure series three? I feel a MOC coming on. Edited December 15, 2010 by The crazy one Quote
Darth Jar Jar Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Wow those are amazing and I think the fire temple is real its go so many new pieces and remember we where told about a possible fire temple a while ago so I am 99% sure its real Those rock pieces on the earth dragon will be so useful for MOCS Edited December 15, 2010 by Darth Jar Jar Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Are these going to be a second wave?? There are already so many sets, it seems crazy if these also come out with wave 1! I think the temple is going to win over most strict 'history" people who previously cursed the day this theme was conceived! I personally think it's one of the better buildings in that style, and architecturally much better than the 90's variant. I guess you just have to put up with having motorcycles tanks and dragons, but nonetheless those are optional and can be ignored. (Earth dragon is looking great, although I'm not crazy about the placement of those fins; they kind of overtake the head Quote
Delta 38 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 And with that, a couple of hundred plans are destroyed. Ouch, my wallet... I'm hoping that these are either very good custom MOCs or official display sets (not for sale, basically). I may just throw my perfectionist army plans out the window with those dragons, though. One or two dragons are okay, but resisting a whole lineup is rather hard. I see a new strange looking skeleton and a black version of Sensei Wu, but otherwise no new figs yet. I'm a bit puzzled as to why Garmadon is on the fire dragon. It's hard for me to sort out what is real and what is just part of the background. Anyway, I'm not entirely convinced I'm going to get the next wave assuming these are real. I want a round number for my ninjas, so if those spinner packs aren't still available then, I'm going to buy virtually every set to make numbers even again. Oh, and with the names on the back, I don't really mind much. We can't have everything. Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Wow! The temple and Earth dragon are great! Nice work Lego! Quote
Algernon Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 The new skeletons are really weird. I'm not sure if I like them yet. This really is the strangest thing LEGO's done in awhile... I DO like the biker skeleton though. Quote
Jargo Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I like the nifty sword and golden dragon windows in the temple set but that's about it. Oh and the black outfit Sensei. Very sexy. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I'm a little surprised no one has managed a pictoral review yet... Quote
The Crazy One Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Oh and the black outfit Sensei. Very sexy. Okay... That January release date, is it for America, or UK as well? Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) Wow! That temple looks great! I hope it is a real set... I have this to say: Could 2011 be the greatest year in lego history? There are so many new lines, new sets and designs like never before. Maybe not the best year ever, but still one great year of LEGO. Edited December 16, 2010 by Mrlegoninja Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) I wonder if all the temple sets hook together, because it looks like all the smaller sets are obstacles to the temple. P.S.that temple is probably the rumored Fire Temple. Edited December 16, 2010 by Dr.Cogg Quote
Bfahome Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I wonder if all the temple sets hook together, because it looks like all the smaller sets are obstacles to the temple. I'd noticed that too, but I figured everyone else had noticed too so i didn't bother bringing it up. Though it looks like only the Outpost attaches so far, and isn't so much an obstacle as just an addition. I still think it's great how they included the little course in the temple, though. Axes, step-poles, spikes, lava/fire, and rotating spikes. Entirely unnecessary, but a nice touch. Quote
Delta 38 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I wonder if all the temple sets hook together, because it looks like all the smaller sets are obstacles to the temple. P.S.that temple is probably the rumored Fire Temple. I did think that the dojo and related sets joined, but I didn't think of that. The dojo and the Skeleton Bowling sets look like they connect to create a base for the spinning game (similarly to the arena set, except in two parts). Now that I have larger images (and have had some time to think over this), I'll probably be getting the temple set regardless of how much they stuff up my plans. It's a rare opportunity to finally get a base for my long-awaited ninja army, so I may as well jump for the opportunity. Of course, as I said earlier, if it does ruin my plan, then I'll need to buy extra spinners or other sets. The lack of a lightning dragon disturbs me. I hope the rumours are true, otherwise I won't get any of the dragons at all. That new vehicle (a monster truck is probably the closest description of it) seems to be for Garmadon as his staff is connected to it and it seems a bit too large for any other character to be driving it. Arigomi Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I have a feeling that some of that stuff in the display are just preliminary builds. The fire dragon is too similar to the ice dragon. The earth dragon's green fins look awkward. The monster truck looks too messy for a final design. TLG doesn't mind exposed studs as long as the overall shape is pleasing to the eye. The wing pieces at the corners of the fire temple roof don't neatly cover the gaps. The roof itself doesn't capture the ridges you get with a tile roof. Quote

I think all the sets look pretty finalized, but I guess we won't know until the sets are revealed elsewhere. I think it makes sense for the Fire Dragon to be similar to the Ice Dragon-- note, though, that it has a larger body and flame-printed wings. I think it would be particularly neat if there were a "lightning dragon" similar to the Earth Dragon but less bulky. It would create a nice contrast-- two of the dragons would be Western-inspired dragons with wings and short bodies, while two would be Eastern-inspired dragons with no wings and longer bodies. If these were preliminary, I imagine they'd look a lot more like the preliminary images we'd seen in leaked catalogs-- printing would be much more limited. The fact that the printing of the faces for the Earth and Fire Dragons is on par with the finalized Ice Dragon's printing helps convince me that it, at least, is finalized. Quote

Those reasons really don't raise any questions about the origin of these sets. To me, they look finalised and official. The Earth dragon may look awkward, but don't the other dragons? And the fire dragon looks similar to the ice dragon. Lego loves using the same design over and over again, and the way I see it, it's logical that the only dragon that appears different would be the stronger, bigger Earth one. The temple issues are present in every set that Lego realeases across the board. Name me a flawless set with no gaps or design faults. The monster truck looks to messy? They are skeletons, and the other vehicles look prety messy to me. Quote

I think it would be very unlikely that the lightning dragon would have a similar body (even though it would be nice) to the earth dragon since each DX ninja has a dragon's head on their torso that represents the dragon that they ride. Jay, Kai, and Zane all have the same DX torso and Cole has a different one. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 So far on the monster truck I've notice two things about it,one it looks like it might have a bitting function, and 2 it looks like the giant fist gets hidden by a back hood cover. Quote
Zarkan Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Hm, that new skeleton vehicle is pretty lame, and the Fire dragon is just a (worse) clone of the Ice Dragon. However, the Earth dragon is looking pretty darn nice, and the new temple is absolutely amazing. It's nice that this theme is looking a lot better, even if a few of the sets are rather bad. However, the whole game aspect is still unsettling to me, especially because of the absolutely OUTRAGEOUS prices. That starter set is the absolute worst offender - 57 pieces for 20 dollars might just be the worst piece-per-price value we've ever had in a system set. That's nearly 40 cents per piece, and that includes the utterly commonplace molds that make up the "arena." I don't care that the packaging is really fancy - this is an utter rip-off in every way, and I'm extremely disapointed in TLC for moving in such a terrible direction. My hope is that the game-based sets fail but the playsets succeed, moving TLC to drop the former if the theme gets a second wave. It could only be an improvement, as far as I'm concerned. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) I noticed that the Fire Dragon may not be Garmadon's because I saw in the display that they put a skeleton on the Ice Dragon,so I hope if Garmadon does get a Dragon his will be an undead Shadow Dragon or some kind of flying Machine monster. Edited December 17, 2010 by Dr.Cogg Quote
Oky Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Of course the Fire Dragon isn't Garmadons! That wouldn't make any sense. I do hope that he comes with that set anyway though. That would be a nice and cheap way of getting him. Quote

---Vertea--- Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 The earth Dragon seems to lack printing or something in those green wing pieces. I cannot help but think of this when I see the earth dragon. I also think that Garmadon isn't the owner of the fire dragon, since the display also shows the jester skeleton riding the Ice dragon-which is incorrect. I love the dragon head/fire design on the golden sword. I can see this coming up in many fantasy mocs. Quote
The Penguin Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Weird skeletons with monocles? Insane outfits and mad vehicles? Odd dragons and spinning ninjas? What kind of is that!? Oh, I'm so going to get them all! ) Would be great for batman and castle! ) Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
Ceroknight Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) I was wondering, is the big skeleton a three-armed figure or four? This guy Edited December 17, 2010 by ceroknight Quote
