Oky Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 (edited) amongst all the promo material floating around there are images of Kai in his non ninja clothes, Kane meditating underwater, and Cole mountain climbing but I haven't seen anything non ninja for Jay. Has anyone spotted anything yet? Well, you may have seen the movie yourself by now, but since you asked, I thought I'd come back to this. Here's the only instance where you see Jay in non-ninja clothes: Sorry for the blurriness, I hope it helps. On a side note, one of the many logical flaws of the movie that bugged me was: If this takes place in modern times, how is a hang glider considered a "new invention"? I found out through legal means that the Mountain Shrine box is in fact, the same dimensions as the Skeleton Chopper set. What do you mean "through legal means"? I'm a little sad that TLG decided against making a special mold for Sensei Wu's bamboo staff. Well, an actual bamboo-looking staff would probably be hard for a minifig to hold, but yeah, they could have at least made his staff tan. Then again, we already got so many new molds with this theme that we really shouldn't complain. There's a Skeleton Chopper set? Uhm, yeah, but technically it's called Skull Motorbike. Delta 38 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Well, it was shown in two separate episodes, "Way of the Ninja" and "King of Shadows", and the story was open-ended, so it did seem like a pilot for a larger series, but there has been no word of a planned series so far. I think it's possible though. And no, there wasn't really anything new in the movie that we don't already have a set of except the dragons and the sail ship that we saw in the trailers, and some Ewok-style gliders and a lame horse carriage. Ah, I see. I don't know what it looks like, but a horse carriage doesn't sound too bad. We definitely need more stuff for the ninjas. Reminds me, I recently got my first sets (the outpost and ambush sets) and I was very surprised. The outpost set's box is tiny! This is an improvement on the designer's part, as it seems box sizes may be going down. I finally understand why the boxes are so large, though. It does feel fairly odd buying a small phone-sized box for $8. On a completely different topic, do you think the earth dragon will contain the normal version of Cole or his DX form? I'm planning everything in advance, so I'd like if he wasn't the DX version. Quote

lightningtiger Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 For us Aussie's with Foxtel, Cartoon Network on the 29th of January at 10am.....Ninjago ! Keep on spinning ! Quote
David Thomsen Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Just looking through the Ninjago minifigs looking for items I can 'borrow' from other themes and it occured to me... why does a skeleton need a loincloth? On the whole, this is a very, very strange theme. Historical ninjas versus biker demons. Uh? I do hope we see that straw hat elsewhere, though. Maybe the Modular range can have a little Chinatown shop. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Historical ninjas versus biker demons. Uh? It's Spinjas for you! Can't wait to see the movie in Polish... Quote
lowbike1 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) I bought the little skeleton/ninja set (not sure on the set number) for my son (what? you bought lego for a kid? shocking I know!) and the same day the skeletons leg broke, glued it back together, and the next day the other leg broke! I'm not too impressed, not sure if I should email them and give them Sh*t... Edited January 20, 2011 by lowbike1 Quote
prateek Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I'm not too impressed, not sure if I should email them and give them Sh*t... You should. Lego is very kind when it comes to replacement parts. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Also, if you let them know how it broke they can take into account the problem to design out or avoid in future. Quote
Ceroknight Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) My brother just got his Club magazine and there is a picture of sensei Wu in his black suit and a offer for a free exclusive battle card with the purchase of $30 or more Ninjago sets at Toys R Us. It says its Canada exclusive. I'll try to post a picture later today. Edited January 21, 2011 by ceroknight Quote

ka.lego Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Has anyone heard about the new Ninjago area in LEGO Universe? The Ugly Duckling posted a marketing video that shows that TLG is maximizing their new MMORPG to push the new line with a Ninjago tie-in. Makes perfect sense to me. I'm just wondering if this means they'll be doing this for all new themes or if this is just a specific push for Ninjago. On that note, does it seem like TLG is really making an extra big push for Ninjago? I might be misreading it, but it seems like there's a lot more marketing effort behind the launch of this line than, say, Atlantis, Power Miners, or Pharaoh's Quest. Maybe it's because those lines had their "ancestors" (eg Divers, Aqua Raiders, Rock Raiders, Adventurers) and Ninjago's an all-new-to-LEGO theme. That would explain why Pharaoh's Quest didn't receive the same treatment Ninjago's getting with the big end-cap displays at Toys R Us, big displays in Target aisles, animated movie, and special area in LEGO Universe. Anyway, just wondering. I know Ninjago's a little different too since it's trying to bridge the building toy / game / action toy gap, perhaps signaling TLG's continued attempt to broaden the brand. Come to think of it, LEGO Universe in itself was a pretty big step into new territory for TLG. Anyway, just musing... Quote

So, we've seen three different outfits so far: the normal one we get in sets, the other white outfit, and the black one. I hope we'll get the other white version. Quote

Definitely, they got NinjaGo out early here in the UK and there are adverts for it (with the ninja eyes logo) all over the place. It's definitely the line they are putting most of their marketing muscle behind, and I'd say for the same reasons you mentioned, to aggressively go after a different type of market. Quote
prateek Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 It's just the card? I thought it was a whole figure that could fetch massive amounts on the aftermarket Quote

Here you get one or two special cards if you buy a NinjaGo spinner. 50 first customers also get a foam "battle arena" and a sticker. The cards come in theese nice black packets One card is a nice and shiny golden "Off Balance" battle card. And notice that this card only requires 100 earth to be played. The regular "Off Balance" card requires 3 times as much in earh. And the fig doesn't need to hold a golden weapon either. The other card is a Krazi figure card with a nice hologram effect. I've uploaded a small video of it to flickr here. Edited January 27, 2011 by Mirandir Quote

I'm quite annoyed that Lego can't do anything "short sleeved". Anywho, Wu would've looked better if the torso was all black. The shiny are cool, but I don't see myself purchasing them separately for $1+ each. Edited January 28, 2011 by Geki Brick Quote

I've uploaded a small video of it to flickr It's interesting to see that people are paying attention to the cards. I haven't really been interested in that personally, but I think it's a great concept for LEGO to be pursuing. That goes for the other games as well (eg Minotaurus, Creationary, Monster 4)...a smart idea to "build" game pieces, etc. Adds a whole new dimension to LEGO. Anyway, I'm curious...how many people here are actually playing the game/spinning/battle aspect of these sets? On that note, I haven't been paying too close attention to the packing of cards in sets, but are they all the same or are they random? In other words, are all the Kai spinner/figure packs (2111) sold with the same cards, or if I bought two would they have different, randomly assorted cards? Wondering how LEGO's setting up this aspect and how it's catching on? My wife teaches 5th grade and I have several nephews, and I know that these types of collectible battling toys/games (eg Beyblades, Yugi-oh) are pretty popular. I haven't heard yet of too many kids who are into these sorts of things expressing interest in Ninjago, but it is early. Quote

The shiny are cool, but I don't see myself purchasing them separately for $1+ each. Ironically, the image above was a computer-generated one, not an actual minifigure. We've often seen examples of extra detail (such as the side printing on the DX ninjas), so maybe the white arms are intentional. Still, I'd prefer plain black ones. I agree, I'm not really into the card/spinner aspect myself. It's interesting to note that quite a few kids here are buying the spinner packs, not because of the cards or game aspect, but simply because they like spinning things and minifigures. So yes, Lego is getting to the intended audience, but not in the way that they might have hoped. Quote
