prateek Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I just caught my first glimpse of the Lightning Dragon set... and I really have to admit, this theme is bizarrely appealing. I mean, skeleton helicopters?? What a strange idea. That said, though, it's actually a pretty nice looking set. I'm liking the direction they took with the Ninjago dragons, in general. The somewhat oddball price range will probably keep me from ever picking it up, but who knows - I'll probably give this theme another look. Agreed. I think that's why this theme is so wildly popular among everyone. There's a game for the kiddies, and the sets aren't half bad with cool designs for the adults Quote
Aanchir Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Hey everyone, check out what I found! Remember how a lot of people's criticism of the Spinjitzu Dojo in the first wave of Ninjago was that it was just a facade and not a full building? Well, there are now building instructions on the LEGO Club website for an alternate model which (at least partially) corrects this! It's a bit small, and still only has two walls, but it's considerably more substantial. I'm sure by now anyone who had any intention of getting the Spinjitzu Dojo is either satisfied with the set, or has come up with their own use for the pieces, but I just figured I'd post this in case anyone was still interested. horizon Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Tempting... I saw a dojo for 27 euro.... new... :) Quote
Aanchir Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 New mini-movie on the Ninjago website! This one tells how Garmadon came to command Samukai's skeleton army! We get to see Garmadon before he got banished to the underworld, as well as a younger Sensei Wu (in black robes, which he never actually wears in the Masters of Spinjitzu special). Interestingly, before his fall, Garmadon had Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker hair in black, just like Clutch Powers. After being banished to the underworld, he had Dr. Inferno's mad scientist hair in black (without highlights). Unless he's lost his hair in the meantime (which, being an undead demon-thing, I'm not sure if he can do that), then that's still what his hair looks like under that gosh-darn helmet. Also note that when I watched the video it was really buggy, with colors inverting and stuff becoming pixellated occasionally. Let's hope TLG fixes that soon. Quote

Here is a spoiler from the book of Kai, read on at own peril: Before Garmaddon went 'evil' Garmaddon, Sensei Wu and Kai's dad worked together banishing all evil/bad dudes from the country. Quote
Lyichir Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Here is a spoiler from the book of Kai, read on at own peril: Before Garmaddon went 'evil' Garmaddon, Sensei Wu and Kai's dad worked together banishing all evil/bad dudes from the country. Now I see! The ninjas teamed up to drive out all the Bad Dudes, so that no-one could stop them from kidnapping the president! In other news, this most recent video is one of my favorites. Now I finally understand the chain of authority in the Underworld, whereas before I was unsure whether Garmadon or Samukai was the true ruler. And it turns out that before being banished, Garmadon was a beautiful bishounen. Quote
horizon Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Printing of DX Ninja's heh, looking through the Lego Catalogue july-december 2011 I noticed something funny. The dragon print on the DX version of the Ninja's is mirrored in some images. The minifigs we have have the dragonhead coming from the left side of the torso, in the pictures you see some with the head coming from the left but others (eg Zane on dragon, cole on spinner) with the dragon coming from the right. Bit weird, noodled and odd, yet funny. :) Quote
Oky Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I don't know if this was mentioned anywhere yet, but I found 30080 Ninja Glider at Target yesterday. They had it by the registers, and there was only one hanging among a few Atlantis promos. It's a pretty cool set, so if you're in the US and are looking for it, that's where I would check. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 New Ninjago mini-movie on LEGO.com. This one isn't too hilarious, besides Nya of course. I still think the first mini-movie where she kicks Skeleton butt at the Blacksmith Shop was the funniest and most entertaining, along with "An Underworldly Takeover". When I viewed the new one this morning it had the same pixellation problem that the last one (An Underworldly Takeover) still has. I hope that gets fixed eventually. I hope this gets fixed eventually. It's not as frequent in this one, but still distracting and obscures pretty much the entire credits sequence. Supposedly six of these shorts should be airing on Cartoon Network sometime this fall, at least in the US, though I haven't heard anything about a date or time. Regardless, this tells us there will be at least (and probably only) one more mini movie, which I'm sure we can expect next Monday. Quote
refriedbeans Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 The final Ninjago mini movie is up! We get to see a battle between young Sensei and young Garmadon in this one. Quote
Aanchir Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Yesterday I made a trip out to Toys 'R' Us and picked up three Ninjago books: "Zane: Ninja of Ice", "Kai: Ninja of Fire", and "LEOG Ninjago Official Guide", all written by Greg Farshtey (author of the BIONICLE comics and most of the BIONICLE books) and published by Scholastic. Toys 'R' Us currently has a Buy One, Get One 50% off deal on all LEGO books, so now's a great time to check these out if you're interested. The Official Guide is exclusive to Toys 'R' Us, at least here in the US. It is written from Sensei Wu's perspective and has info on all the year one characters, dragons, and vehicles. There's a lot of info in it I haven't seen elsewhere. I plan to write a full review of these books, so I'll be sure to share some of the info it has. Notably, it suggests that the story has far more depth than the TV special revealed. In this book, Jay retrieved the Nunchuks of Lightning from a full city in the sky rather than just a tall floating pillar of stone, and each of the Ninjas tamed their dragon in a particular way that suited their personalities. There's a short story at the end that tells a longer version of how the Shurikens of Ice were retrieved, including a confrontation with the skeletons. It also has lots of great art, mostly from the trading card illustrations. It's not without errors, of course. For instance, Nuckal and Kruncha's information is almost completely reversed, with Kruncha described as comically inept and Nuckal described as a fierce fighter. This is probably a result of the book being written before the character names and roles were fully established-- a similar role-reversal occurred in various Hero Factory story materials this year, with the personalities of Nex and Evo switched in a lot of bios. The other two books are chapter books starting with a bio of the ninjas, followed by a short story, and finally leading into a multi-chapter adventure. None of the stories in the books are ones that already appeared in TV specials or mini-movies. Fans of BIONICLE will recognize hallmarks of Greg Farshtey's writing style including lots of trickery on the part of the villains. As I mentioned about the official guide, there's a lot of character depth here that hasn't been seen on the website or in the TV episodes, such as a mysterious backstory for Zane and a bit of a clearer perspective on Samukai's relationship with Garmadon. Hope to write a full review as soon as I get back to college and can get some photographs/scans of the covers and other parts of the books that I consider noteworthy (no big spoilers of course). It should also be noted that these are not the same books published in Polish by AMEET, although those books contain some of the same stories. I wonder if we can expect to see similar chapter books for Jay and Cole. I hope so; these books seemed childish at first but overall gave me a much deeper and intriguing perspective on the world of Ninjago. Quote

I hope so; these books seemed childish at first but overall gave me a much deeper and intriguing perspective on the world of Ninjago. Can't wait for the review, it should offer some great insight into the Ninjago story line, which I personally find a bit confusing. Speaking of tidbits of Ninjago information that are not widely known, the LEGO Universe MMO recently had a massive Ninjago update which added a new world themed around it. It appears that after the recovery of the Golden Weapons and the demise of Samukai, Garmadon sent Nuckal and his army to the planet LEGO Universe takes place on, the fragmented world of Crux. The skeletons intend to use the power of a chaotic force known as the Maelstrom, located at Crux, to defeat Sensei Wu and his ninja students. The skeleton soldiers at the new Ninjago Monastery world are all armed with tainted weaponry forged from Maelstrom crystals, which are apparently very deadly to the people of planet Ninjago. The Nexus Force, the good guys of LEGO Universe, has been deployed to take down the army of skeleton warriors who are trying to claim the Golden Weapons once again. I believe that this is going to be turned into an official "transition" phase between the 2011 and 2012 Ninjago story lines, at least, it will be once the third Ninjago update comes to the game. Just figured you guys who are interested in the story should know. Quote
Oky Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Another new short film. This time it shows the battle between Sensei Wu and Anakin Garmadon and explains Sensei's black robes! The fight isn't as epic as Sensei always makes it out to be, but still pretty neat. Quote

The fight isn't as epic as Sensei always makes it out to be, but still pretty neat. Already mentioned like ten days ago. But still, thanks for the link. Just a hint for people frustrated with the weird defects in the video-- you can see higher quality versions at JoinTheWu's YouTube channel. As far as I can tell, this is the official LEGO Ninjago YouTube channel, at least for the US. On a side note (and I might be even more late to the party with this one) the Papercutz Ninjago site is up. Papercutz is the company that publishes the BIONICLE and Ninjago graphic novels. The site is pretty boring, but there's a five-page preview of the first Ninjago graphic novel. I still have yet to see these in stores, but I'm interested to see how they turn out in terms of storytelling. Working hard on my review of those three Ninjago books. It's been a long time since I've written a review, and I'm kind of having to wing it since I couldn't find any other book reviews here on Eurobricks. Quote
Oky Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Oh, sorry. Was it mentioned in the 2012 thread? It's so confusing to have two active Ninjago threads going on. I thought this is the one where we discuss the videos since they relate to the first two waves. And yes, those defects are indeed quite annoying, so thanks for the link! Quote
Aanchir Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Nope, it's RefriedBeans's post, three posts above yours. But I guess the walls of text in the posts immediately before and after it kind of run together and overwhelm that announcement. Curse that guy who keeps posting big walls of text! Quote
Play With Fire Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 A couple questions: first off, is Garmadon's skin color before his banishment Cool Yellow? Second, the six next mini-movies are not going to be online, and instead will be aired on Cartoon Network, correct? If so, do we have any idea when the first one premieres? Quote

Looks kind of like Cool Yellow, yeah, or maybe Light Yellow. Of course, that's assuming the makers of the mini-movies and TV episodes choose to use or are obligated to use existing LEGO colors. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Haha It was nice to watch, aspecialy that I got a Garmadon today! The transpurple spinner is so beautiful! Quote
Play With Fire Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Aanchir! Y u no post book review? :P It's fine, take your time. I just really want to know more about Ninjago, because I currently find myself perplexed at most of it. Quote
