General Magma Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 What is this? Ninja VS the undead... Right? I thought this theme was going to be good (except for the rainbow ninja mentioned a pretty long while ago), but this, this is a huge disappointment... While some elements of it are good, it just doesn't appeal to me at all. The old theme from the late '90s was much better than this, however, I'll give it a second chance to decide when we get to see what the finalized sets will look like. Hopefully they manage to still make something good out of this. ~ General Magma Quote
Plissken Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Some of the smaller sets look nice, but overall it's not very appealing to me. I don't think the card game aspect will work out. The small chain is great and I think in a weak moment I will buy the motorcycle Quote

I don't think the card game aspect will work out. The small chain is great and I think in a weak moment I will buy the motorcycle The two smallest sets look fine, but yeah... the cards are something else. I think all the cards will do is increase the price for no reason. I have never met a kid that wants to build with LEGOs and then use cards. It's like LEGO went "The minifigures are selling insanely well and so are the board games, let's make a new theme that does both but with playing cards!" Quote
Rocketbilly Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Has anyone noticed that the Skeleton figure seem to have new bodies? They seem more angular and squared off than regular skeleton bodies, and they also seem to have a coloured "crotch" area. WIll/Rocketbilly Quote

WIll/Rocketbilly I for one am glad that living skeletons have taken to wearing undies. This theme is worth it for the skellies alone. Quote
CMP Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I'm digging these undead. I think they have normal heads with some weird skeletal masks, with new 4-armed skeletal bodies (I think the arms are Grievous's) and booted feet. The top/card thing is kind of weird, but you've gotta give credit to the figs and their accessories. Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Has anyone spoken of the movie that is meant to comming out to support this new theme ? Anyway, why is Lego following MB in this spinning top game sphere.....Battle Strikers don't really sell that well in Oz stores see that most major retailers carry only a little of that product. Also where's the launcher......like if these spin there must be a launcher right ? I'm a conformist! ! Quote

The top/card thing is kind of weird, but you've gotta give credit to the figs and their accessories. I second those emotions. The new arms aren't Grievous', but they're similar to them in having bars as bones. I'm very glad they made these because they are much more versatile and look much better on skeletons than droid arms. Has anyone spoken of the movie that is meant to comming out to support this new theme ? I don't think the retailer catalog mentioned it (why would it?), but yeah, it's been mentioned before. Also where's the launcher......like if these spin there must be a launcher right? I was wondering that too, but I don't think there is one. If there was, they would show it, and besides, I don't think the kind of force a launcher would give to these tops is necessary here. Remember, the (likely) point of this game is to knock the minifigs off the tops, and if they would be spinning at the speed of a Beyblade, it would just tear the minifigs apart on contact. There are no "teeth" on the side of tops for launcher to create friction either. Therefore, I think you just spin them like you would spin a normal top, or a coin. Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 (edited) In the promo shot from the catalogue the round tops with the figures seem to show a spin or rotating action, how else are they going to knock over the opposition ! Unless, there is some exterenal control by magnets or levers, but wait I was told by a Lego rep that it's for younger children so it cannot be overly complex beacause after ten minutes they won't give a toss for this game ! What we need is more details on what this theme is about and how it's played, at the moment it's just a new game of guess what I do ? I'm a conformist! ! Oh, quick edit - wouldn't this play system be handy for say Kingdom's or Star Wars eh ? Edited September 23, 2010 by lightningtiger Quote
Oky Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I never said that they aren't spinning. I guess you just spin them with your hands and hope they bump into each other by chance, because I don't expect any kind of control system from TLC either. But yeah, this would be great for Star Wars since that would allow us to buy individual Jedi and Sith! But that's off topic... Quote
Baylego Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Sadly, NinjaGo looks pretty bad. The only things I like from the theme are the small sets with the figs and the accessories. I really like the skellies, with the new hands, faces, arms, armor, and accessories. Now I can have some variety in my Fantasy Era army! The armor will be cool for some space figs too. Quote
SpiderSpaceman Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I for one am glad that living skeletons have taken to wearing undies. That cracked me up. "no boots, no loincloth: no service!" Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 The only one I really like is the dragon. Quote

I saw on the promo that each boy was wearing a sort of wrist gauntlet, maybe that has something to do with the launching of the tops... Quote
Oky Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) The only one I really like is the dragon. It looks like a bad Bionicle to me. I prefer the castle ones that actually look like dragons. I saw on the promo that each boy was wearing a sort of wrist gauntlet, maybe that has something to do with the launching of the tops... I think those are just their watches or something... Otherwise they would be shown better in the pic, and the one kid wouldn't have his hand stretched out as if he just spun his top by hand... I think. Edited September 24, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
---Vertea--- Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 It looks like a bad Bionicle to me. I prefer the castle ones that actually look like dragons. Meh. The castle ones were crazy <insert that tiresome argument>, IMO. The eyes looked doofy and the mouths had huge overbites. The bodies and wings and such were cool, but those heads... This one does look like bad Bionicle, but I don't really mind. It's suiting for an Ice Dragon of sorts. Pointy and frosty. Quote
Rocketbilly Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I for one am glad that living skeletons have taken to wearing undies. This theme is worth it for the skellies alone. I agree. Nothing declares "I'm a badass" quite like fetching tight blue speedos. So do these skeleton legs have boots molded into them? Not sure why, but I've got a feeling that could be very popular over in the Pirates forum. The weapons in this theme look terrible, in my opinion. Will/Rocketbilly Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I like the look of that black ninja impulse, I might get a few for the bow's and targets. Quote
Delta 38 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 They do have separate set numbers - ergo it shouldn't be a blind pick, if that's what you're worried about. Actually, no. Because most sets are fairly small, I can get each of the four ninjas from sets without breaking the budget too badly (with the exception of the white one, but the dragon interests me somewhat anyway). Assuming I can actually find those separate ones, though, I'm not sure whether I want two of each type as I'd buy them for the weapons. Admittingly, I could easily save money just by buying the individual minifig... Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Who cares about sets?! So many new weapons! Quote
Skafte Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I just can't wait to get alot of those long bone weapons! As far as buying sets from the theme, I think no. Quote
Zzz Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 At least Ninjago makes Exoforce sparkle like a diamond. And I guess those Ninja minifigs will be ok. Quote
Ogre Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 As a THEME, yeah, this 'Ninjago' seems as goofy as all get-out...BUT...I don't really care about it as a 'theme'. I'm hooked on the minifigs and the sets as a goldmine of PARTS. I'm a little disappointed in the nunchucks but, at the same time I can't really complain TOO much, simply because I've been one to complain in the past about 'overly specialized LEGO elements'. So, they make the 'chucks' out of three pieces instead of one...disappointing, yes but, I'll live. (it just REALLY irks me when MB has better elements than LEGO...it makes the universe feel all 'off kilter') Quote
Etzel Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Bricklink it is. Got to get some small chains, bones, military helmet if not too expensive and maybe a blue and white head wrap. Sets look more or less what I expected, maybe a little better but still far from acceptable for me. I just can't wait to get alot of those long bone weapons! As far as buying sets from the theme, I think no. Get some extra and put them in the osteo-lab for the student to examine! Quote
steven30 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Uh oh. I have a horrible prospect of these sets. It involves the Jellybean Knights. I just hope I'm wrong. Where can i find pictures? Quote
