tchuk-norst Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 this is the best I can do at the time, seeing as it is not a completed model, I still have some work to do but I need to buy some pieces on bricklink before I can do that. As you can tell, unlike the Captain's I used the new hull pieces and one less middle piece. It is a 14 cannon ship, making it fairly small for a fighter. But this is going to be used in a fantasy-themed storyline in the works. Thus the design is a culmination of many different eras of ships. Comments and constructive criticism would be appreciated since this is my first ship. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 11, 2010 Governor Posted August 11, 2010 Looks like you're off to a good start! I have two comments that are not so much to do with the building of this MOC: If possible, photograph your MOC against a neutral backdrop because objects in the background distract from the MOC. If you don't have a spare wall to photograph your MOCs against you can create a neutral backdrop using a sheet or large piece of cardboard. Please post all pirate creation in our Pirate MOC Forum This thread shall be moved to the Pirate MOC Forum in the very near future. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I've moved this to the Pirate MOCs forum. Not bad for your first ship! Keep it up. Quote
ZCerberus Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Good promise! I like how you have made the ship have a curved like shape, something I have never been able to quite perfect. Nice start! Now try to make the sides slope up slightly and you will have an even better effect! I would move the foremast (front) forward, and the mizzen (rear) mast forward as well. The main mast (middle) seems to be in about the right spot. I would also add some small guns to the main deck to make it a bit more menacing Quote
tchuk-norst Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Thank you for the reply. And what is it that you mean by the curved shape? the tumblehome? the horizontal curve? or some other curve? and I will take your suggestions and apply them. Quote
prateek Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 This is a really great start! It is awesome, even for an experienced ship builder Quote
Paul cantu Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 This is a pretty spectacular ship. The general shape and size looks almost perfect. I like the colors that you chose and the way you applied each is great. I also like the number of cannons you decided to use. I think that since the ship is pretty large you could use a few more sails, I know they are hard to come by but if you make custom sails out of construction paper they will do the trick and are unlimited. I also think that adding a bit more detail to the cabin would be nice, maybe a few more windows in particular. Great work all around!! I hope to see more in the future. Quote
ZCerberus Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) Thank you for the reply. And what is it that you mean by the curved shape? the tumblehome? the horizontal curve? or some other curve? and I will take your suggestions and apply them. I mostly meant it looks like it bowes slightly away from the center of the ship very gradually like a real ship would. I think the coloration seems to reduce the tumblehome some though, but it looks like there is some there. This shows some very good promise. Edited August 19, 2010 by ZCerberus Quote
tedbeard Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Your first ship! I think you have done very well and your "teacher" should be commended for the excellent instructions. In particular I would like to compliment the colour scheme and the rounded bow. Both look very nice. Quote
