Klaus-Dieter Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Welcome back to EB, Brick Miner! It's great to see you here again! And many congratulations to your new job! I'm absolutely convinced that you'll do your job perfectly! I really hope that you'll be aible to use the excellent designs of you Western MOCs and the amazing Western, City and Arabian torso designs in your portfolio for actual sets in the next years! To see some official sets like your WW MOCs on the shelves of one of my local toy shops or at least on S@H would be awesome! I wish you will have again a very nice time here! Btw: Don't you want to present us some of your excellent WW MOCs you have in your BS folder but didn't show us here on EB yet?! A comment by me would be sure! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Ras 74 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Congratulations BrickMiner!! When first reading your post telling us that you were so unsatisfied with your work and so on, I thought you didn´t get it. Glad that, that wasn´t the case since you worked hard to come this far. I see a bigger chanse of meeting you in real life now when you are in Billund, then somewere in the US The EB-Event in Billund will be in Windsor next year But in 2012 it will come back to the mothland of the bricks. Once again, congratulations! How many Eurobrickersdo work for LEGO these days? I know about 3 at least! Quote
KimT Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Despite all of this, I received an email from my primary LEGO contact this morning which included an offer for a permanent position on the graphics design team. I will be accepting this offer, and expect to start in January 2011. Let me know if you need a visit now and then. Billund isn't that big and if you ever need to check out Copenhagen or such, let me know and I'll hook you up with a free bed for the night. Congrats on getting the job you've been hunting for so long But in 2012 it will come back to the mothland of the bricks. Mothland?! What the !"#¤ Quote
Brick Miner Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 KimT, thank you for the offer. Of course, I will want to see Copenhagen soon! As well, I am sure I will need someone to help me with my Danish Actually, my priority is to visit Germany - I have, what one might call, a crush on Germany But I do want to see a lot of Europe! I will have to bookmark the EB event date for 2012. Perhaps someone here can remind me as it gets closer to the date too Klaus Dieter, I am very tempted to reveal some of what I have been working on since my break with EB. However, I am hesitant because the models are not in a presentable form, at least not as polished as my Wild West creations are (no photo editing or digital boxes, etc.) Perhaps sharing my work would be a good excuse to take some photos of my layout before I tear it all down and box it up for Denmark! - Brick Miner Quote
Holodoc Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Actually, my priority is to visit Germany - I have, what one might call, a crush on Germany But I do want to see a lot of Europe! A crush on Germany - oookaaaay Well, the I can offer a free bed and a cup of coffee as well. If you ever come close to Cologne (a must see) or even Düsseldorf (a city you can easily skip on your list) - let me know! Quote
Brick Miner Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 Holodoc, I thought of you specifically when I wrote that I can only hope there was a bit of sarcasm in your comment! Germany has a rich history. If for no other reason, Germany can be credited with producing some of the greatest Western thinkers arguably, second only to Ancient Greece. (Note: German philosophy is a another interest of mine ) - Brick Miner Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) Actually, my priority is to visit Germany - I have, what one might call, a crush on Germany But I do want to see a lot of Europe! If you've got the possibility to visit Germany - of course don't miss the chance since there are a lot of places which are really interesting and exciting to visit. But the rest of Europe is very interesting, too, imo esp. France. My home is very small - so in contrast to KimT and Holodoc I sadly can't offer you an accommodation. I'd be glad you come for a cup of coffee neverhtless. So if you are on your way to Bavaria (where there are a lot of places you must have seen) don't hesitate to stop by. Klaus Dieter, I am very tempted to reveal some of what I have been working on since my break with EB. However, I am hesitant because the models are not in a presentable form, at least not as polished as my Wild West creations are (no photo editing or digital boxes, etc.) Perhaps sharing my work would be a good excuse to take some photos of my layout before I tear it all down and box it up for Denmark! Well, when I look through your BS gallery I see a lot of excellent WW MOCs I don't remember you have shown here before (I only remember the train station and the saloon). I only miss pictures of the interiors of some of these MOCs. So why not firstly showing these to us?! A comment would be guaranteed. Klaus-Dieter Edited September 15, 2010 by Klaus-Dieter Quote

Plastic Nurak Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Hi, Brickminer, happy to meet one of my WW fave MOCers . I take advantage of your presence, obviously if you want, to ask you a tip about building SNOT log walls, Lincoln Log-style. I'm trying it, but with bad results . Quote
Jipay Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 You're back ! I'm so glad you finally made it ! Some of you work still survives here and there in the skins of the website ! Quote
snefroe Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 i am sooo glad you're back, mate! i remember the topic you made when you decided to leave EB, hoping to get a spot at Lego. We were all sorry to see you go, but agreed that if there was one guy who could acually make it, it would be you. Since then i often wondered if there had been an opportunity for you to convince Lego of your talent. Glad to read your story has a happy ending! I can only hope they recruited a "Far West freak" because they're planning a brand new Western theme for 2012! Quote
Fuzzylegobricks Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 what line ( city.knights, space) are you going to be making sets for? glad to here from you again! i wasnt a member but i looked evryday Quote
Brick Miner Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 Hello again Jipay and Snefroe, It is good to be in contact with you both again Jipay, funny, you gave me my first LEGO job - working on skins for Eurobricks what line ( city.knights, space) are you going to be making sets for? glad to here from you again! i wasnt a member but i looked evryday That, I think, is a very good question because I have a good reply:Specifically, I have not been told which lines I will be working on. However, during the Recruitment Workshop I was asked which themes I would prefer working on. I told them LEGO City and history based themes - I then proceed to tell them that LEGO Pirates, Wild West and Adventurers were my favorite toys in my childhood and teen years. Of course, I was asked, "What if you get put on LEGO Racers" (I think my interviewer knew I didn't appreciate this theme as an AFOL). And I said, "Well, then I will have to do a lot of research." Basically, I answered the question indirectly by implying that I know nothing of LEGO Racers, or cars in general , AND that I would be willing to work on the theme. I'm not sure how well my answer was received The next bit of information might be of some interest to a lot of you: During one of my interviews I did add to the discussion that I would love to work on a minifig-scale Belville or Paradisa "re-work" theme. And I received a reaction that was a bit surprising. The reaction was both, "Oooooh reeeally" and (in body language) "Like that will ever happen" - all while playfully poking fun at me. Generally, the reaction was not a serious one which made me believe that either 1) we would not be seeing a minifig theme target toward girls, or 2) we will be seeing one, only no one wanted to work on it. As I said, in either case I would be surprised (I would have thought a lot of designers would have enjoyed a change in the usual repertoire of police, fire, rescue, construction, knights, etc.). But now we are less than two months away, and I will be finding out very soon which themes I will be placed on. I have my fingers crossed on civilian City sets, or, a Medieval Middle Eastern theme (change from Medieval European Castle sets) or any theme from antiquity: Greek, Roman, etc. - Brick Miner (Justin) Quote

But these are only rumours of course! Good luck, and thanks for the updates! Quote

SilentMode Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Well done Brick Miner! Here's hoping we see a "girly" theme in the future. Quote
snefroe Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 i'm surprised that lego allows you to talk about all of this, i must say. in any case, it would be weird if they wil allow you to talk about the stuff you're going to do from january onwards. didn't they tell you to calm down and to be more discrete? are you sure you're not getting into trouble by telling all of this? Brick Miner Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 I hope to not be misunderstood in my above post. To clarify, I have not been informed of any future projects and will not hear about my assignments until January. At this point in the process, you can consider me as much "in-the-dark" about LEGO news as the next AFOL. Unfortunately, I was not exposed to any new material during the Recruitment Workshop in Billund My above experience should NOT be considered as fuel for conversational speculation - please! Surely, I don't want to hear talk like, BrickMiner said this and that I had been taking for granted that a minifig based theme targeted for girls was inevitable, so my reaction was specifically concerned in that it was even a possibility that no designer wanted to work on a theme of this market, and that this was a point to tease someone on. My reaction woudl have been like, Yes! Yes! Yes! More to the point, this is what I wished to share. - BrickMiner Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) I can only hope they recruited a "Far West freak" because they're planning a brand new Western theme for 2012! Imo that doesn't lay to far way off, snefroe. Of course TLG mainly valuate Brick Miner's ability to design in general. And he did not only show Western MOCs but even City and Arabia sets in his portfolio. So they of course chose him because he is a good graphic designer in general (it would be unlogical if someone could only design good Western sets but no other sets). Apart from that - even if Western gets a re-introduction (which I really hope) - the Western theme will surely be not a theme which will get sets every year for more decades without any pause. Nevertheless TLG did surely note that Brick Miner's focuse in graphic design was til now mainly Western themed (which can be seen in the portfolio). So one reason why they chose him consequently might really be that there's a new Western theme planned for 2012 or 2013. At least I hope so! i'm surprised that lego allows you to talk about all of this, i must say. in any case, it would be weird if they wil allow you to talk about the stuff you're going to do from january onwards. didn't they tell you to calm down and to be more discrete? are you sure you're not getting into trouble by telling all of this? Don't you think that your comment is contraproductive and a bit unfriendly towards Brick Miner, snefroe?! Firstly Brick Miner didn't present us any top secret information. Rumors about a new girly (City) theme are around here already since months. And Brick Miner did only report us about his meeting at TLG and not about any decisions which were made there. Secondly if Brick Miner gave us some confirmation or some hints, we should be really glad and do not blaming him for doing that! Thirdly only Brick Miner knows and can decide which he wants, can (dare) and is allowed to tell us or not. He is not a kid to which we have to say what he should or should not do. Brick Miner Posted November 14, 2010 Author Posted November 14, 2010 Thank you KD for really putting yourself "in my shoes," and really grasping the "big picture" in this situation. However, I think Snefroe was simply under the impression that I had an inside scoop, and that in my post I could possibly be implying (suggestively revealing) information to top secret products, and in turn doing the company harm. When in fact there is nothing to spoil, or even get worked up over, since I saw no information during the Recruitment Workshop. I will, however, be sure to keep LEGO product information VERY top secret once I start my assignment, since I do not wish to harm the company by revealing unpublicized product information. I hope this finally clears things up, and puts an end to this line of discussion on Eurobricks ---------------------------------------------------------------- On a different note: To redeem myself following my interview in Billund I did take a look at LEGO Racers. And I can say that working on that product line would not be so bad, whatsoever. While I do not appreciate automobiles design, or the sport of racing them, I understand elemental or zoomorphic iconography (and the characterization that comes along with that) very well. So, to give "life" to these vehicles in this way will not be difficult, and actually quite fun, I can imagine. - BrickMiner Quote

I’m very happy for you if you have succeeded in working as graphic designer for TLC! Congratulation! I sincerely wish you the best with this new life! Even if your new mocs are not as well presented as your Wild West are, I’m very curious to see what you come with during all this time… Quote
