Toa_Of_Justice Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) UPDATE: Please see the latest version a few posts below. One day, I saw this sleek vehicle on a framed cover image in a Cracker Barrel restaurant: After doing some research and finding out that the vehicle was called a "Sea Gull Boat," I decided to MOC it in LEGO Digital Designer: Click on any image (except the non-LEGO illustration) to enlarge it. LXF File - Brickshelf Gallery - Original article (on page 49) Note: You may need to rename the LXF file with an .lxf extension and save it as "All Files," otherwise it may save as a .zip folder. Credits: * Victor W. Strode of Portland, Oregon (for the original invention) * Edgar F. Wittmack (for the cover illustration) * Popular Science (for making their magazine available online) * Superkalle (for LEGO Universe mode) -Toa Of Justice Edited June 15, 2011 by Rufus Indexed Quote
prateek Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Wow, this is really cool. You got the shape pretty well. It seems Lego had a look at this when designing the curved pieces Quote
Optimus Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Very unique design, and you captured it quite well. It's a very strange looking boat, but in a good way. Nice work! Quote
Joey Lock Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 It's good! I'd lengthen the bow by 1 more brick though since it looks a little chubby for a streamlined boat! Quote
Toa_Of_Justice Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 Thanks for the comments, everyone! Wow, this is really cool. You got the shape pretty well. It seems Lego had a look at this when designing the curved pieces Thanks! That's an interesting thought regarding the curved pieces. It's good! I'd lengthen the bow by 1 more brick though since it looks a little chubby for a streamlined boat! Like this? ^(click to enlarge)^ LXF File -Toa Of Justice Quote

Fires-storm Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 A beautiful ship indeed, I may have to download this and see what I can use for inspiration Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Very nice smooth and sleek design Toa_of_Justice. I think you pretty much nailed the overall look right on the bulls-eye. Nicely done! Just one minor adjustment tough, the cockpit in the real boat is closer in the front so you might want to adjust that in your model. Other than that, I'd say it's perfect. Quote

Leo-J Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Wonderful creation! It would be nice to see it in real bricks, too! Quote
Toa_Of_Justice Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Wonderful creation! It would be nice to see it in real bricks, too! Thanks, but I have no plans to build a real brick version. For one thing, the wedge element I used for the windshield isn't available in transparent clear or smoke yet. Even for the pieces that are real, I don't have all of them. Moreover, I'm afraid of Design byME and/or BrickLink prices. -Toa Of Justice EDIT: I forgot to mention that I'm running out of storage space... Edited September 9, 2010 by Toa_Of_Justice Quote
