Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 1, 2010 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 1, 2010 Fans have been scream for a classic-theme (Greek, Roman, Egypt, etc.) for a very long time and now those prayers have been at least partially answered with the release of the fantastic Greek hoplite minifig. There are arguments for calling this fig a Spartan or an Athenian hoplite, but who cares because the fig is fantastic in so many ways. Let's summarize: 1/ Amazing helmet 2/ A new spear in 2 colors 3/ A new round shield 4/ A dark red cape 5/ Leather armor looking torso 6/ Printed legs You'll find more details in KimT's fine review. These are 6 good reasons to build a little army with these figs and see how it looks. I once was an "army builder" and it seems some of that is still in my blood. Today I'm presenting SPARTA leaving their barracks and going on the move to kick some megablocks This is SPARTA... Note: no boxes of the collectible minifigs where raided to build this army!! Quote
Diaaabo Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Really nice! Can't wait to see some MOC with these guys! It's a shame that the spear is made of rubber tho Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 1, 2010 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 1, 2010 It's a shame that the spear is made of rubber tho That doesn't bother me at all. It looks great, so why would it matter if the tip of the spear is a bit flexible? No really, I don't notice any quality issues at all with this fig. I tell you, it's perfect, including the spear Quote
Captain Becker Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 HOLY COW! THATS AWESOME! How did yo u got those? You didnt buy them on a store i guess? Anyway.. i mready to buy a few of those from you I got 1 spartans on Friday and the Red cape fits perfectly on my Avatar, and the face is perfect for redcoats army, but i want.. wait.. well lets just say 5 or 12 of these guys Amazing army you have The SPartan warrior you truly are Why im trying to speak like Yoda? Anyway, you are just one lucky son of a spartan. Captain Becker Quote
Etzel Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Nice army, Bonaparte! 34 of those fantastic hoplites are definitely a respectful number and is worth a lot of awe . This is the only minifig from Series 2 that I don't have, and also the only one I want more than 3 of. But I'm confident that I shall find them soon. I agree that it would be great to see these minifigs in a MOC. Note: no boxes of the collectible minifigs where raided to build this army!! That will be a relief for every other AFOL in your neighbourhood Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Damn! Where? How on earth? Cost? *brain explodes* Quote
Rocketbilly Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Congratulations Bonaparte! An inspiring sight indeed, and one that instills a great deal of fear, too! No, not the fear that I'm suddenly going to be bombarded with a volley of rubber tipped spears thrown by a small army of lovely plastic men, no (though I suppose that is always a possibility) It's the fear that there are so many people jumping on the Spartan bandwagon that I'm not going to be able to find a single one of these figures for myself when they become more readily available! I only really want two of this figure - one for display with my others and one to scrap for parts though I must say they do look beautiful all lined up - the gold and the dark red really lend a feel of "luxury" to this figure I expect flickR and the likes will be inundated with pictures much like this, with many AFOLs competing to assemble the biggest army of Spartans. I hope that the distribution is a bit better in the US this time round, as us Europeans seemed to have them in far greater quantities. Anyway, off topic now so I'll stop. A lovely army! Will/Rocketbilly Quote
Zorbas Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 You still need to get 266 more you know. Wonderful army Bonaparte! All minifigs together look great! The side shot is really impressive! I really can't wait to have some too. "Either with this or on this." Such a great ancient Greek/Spartan quote... Quote
Dunjohn Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Okay, so the bar has been set at 34! Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, who's going to beat 34? Also, I agree, the bendy spear isn't an issue, it looks exactly the same as a non-bendy one. And being made of different plastic is what gave them the excuse to colour it differently anyway, if it had been solid it would have been monochrome. Quote
squiz Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Apparently Grogal has 153 sparans Think we are definitely going to see some big collections of these. Cant wait to see the mocs that are based around this fig. They look great all lined up together, thanks for sharing Bonaparte! Quote
Artanis I Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 The price of this fig is going to go through the roof... Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 AWESOME collection 'Bonaparte' - but only just over 10% what you need really eh ? Then we'll fight in the shade ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
WhiteFang Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 This is definitely going to be an epic hunt, with the extreme high demand of Spartans. I am very certain this is the most wanted minifig among the both series and is likely to make us to look for more. It's really awesome, even to see these warriors lining up in different formations. Quote
Buckshot Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Color me jealous! Nice collection! Let's hope TLC sees the high demand for these figs and makes more. And a temple. And a bireme. And, and, and...... Quote
TLV Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 How about building up a persian army to fight your mighty 300? The timing of the release of POP and the spartan minifig is perfect! If only I had the money to build up my armies... Quote
UsernameMDM Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Need to replace those sissy shields with some serious hardware: "from the neck down" Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Whoa! I knew someone, somewhere out there, one 'crazy' person will ammass a huge collection of these Spartans and show his extravagant army. I'm green with envy with your Spartan army Bonaparte. Great job on collecting these. Quote
Apache Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 That is a purty sight. I'm hoping to get around 10-15 myself. Quote
The Penguin Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Ha! I was wonderind when I'd be seeing something like that on EB, and here it is! A great collection of spartains, Bonaparte! ) And if the rumors are true (and I have no reason to doubt, thanks to K-D) and we'll be getting some classical ancient architecture details in Atlantis, then I can only imagine what great MOCs will follow with these guys! Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
Shroffy123 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Wow. My local Lego store released Series 2 minifigs today. The store opened at 10AM, and when I got there at Noon, they were down to their last box ... I sadly, was only able to find 1 :( Quote
Darth Jar Jar Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Whoa! lowbike1 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I'd think you would be more jealous at Grogal he's got 132 how did he get that I only got 12 I was in a Walmart Supercentre looking for these, found two packing cases with unopened cases of minifigs, needless to say I cleaned out all the spartans I had 33, but have sold 23 of them, maybe I should have held on to them for a bit longer Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 COULD THIS BE A FAKE IMAGE?? Photoshop magic??? I've seen you guys do it before... Quote
