These are 6 good reasons to build a little army with these figs and see how it looks. I once was an "army builder" and it seems some of that is still in my blood.

Today I'm presenting SPARTA leaving their barracks and going on the move to kick some megablocks

This is SPARTA...

Ok I really don't understand the point of army-building, so I hope I don't sound rude. :classic: But... what is it that excites you in having 34 identical soldiers? When I say "identical" I don't mean that they have the same clothes and equipment, THAT I do understand. But if you build an "army", why don't you make it also more realistic by making them all slightly different, varying at least the FACES of the soldiers? If you do that (and I'm sure you can), then I will certainly appreciate your "build", but if you keep them totally identical then I am really left unimpressed, it's not much building it's just buying...

The idea is it looks so cool to look at 30 or any number Spartans, clone trooper, and so on. Plus you have the honor to say I got 30 or so Spartans I know I would be honored

It's a concept of honor that truly I don't understand.

But I don't want to mock your hobby, that's your choice. I only wanted to suggest at least in cases like the Spartans, where their faces are visible, to apply a little variation so that the army would be more realistic (not that anybody cares) and this way there would actually be something to "design", rather than just owning.

Aha, yes I do plan to alter some faces, give them some standards and that kind of stuff (like I did with my Napoleonic collection of minifigs). However, the reason I bought them is to use them in some MOCs I'm planning to make at some point in the future. And since they looks so cool all together I've shared some pics. Pure collecting and not using them for another purpose does also in my mind make little sense.

I'm just waiting for somebody to build a trojan horse at this point. I also won't be that surprised if at the next major AFOL event somebody stuffs a few AT-ATs full of Greek hoplites/Spartans. These guys are absolutely amazing.

Wow! You should collaborate with grogall and whoever else has hordes of these guys to make an army of 300. And just ask Svelte to fill in with the million Persians

Absolutely love the pictures :classic:

This fig looks great on its own and even better en masse.

I hope eventually more pics like this will emerge but with even greater numbers. Surely they must be out there!

Im hoping to collect a small army of these too. But as it seems so is every other AFOL I think it'll be tough to track down in large numbers without resorting to ebay etc, which I'm not prepared to do. If i do beat 34 i will post a picture for sure.

Although saying that I managed to get 13 today in my first try looking, but it did cover 5 shops and a fair few miles! :classic:

Look foward to seeing any MOC's you create with these.

Once I have more time and my building skills improve I would like to attempt a LEGO trireme to display mine in.

Good luck hunting everyone

I reallly hate how people always reference 300 with these figs, I didn't even think 300 was fairly portrayed. I like thinking these guys as Generic Hoplites.

Now all we need in series 4 are Alexanders Companion Cavalry, then we're set!

How do you mean it wasnt fairly portrayed? I dont think the film was supposed to be taken too seriously. Of course you are right, they are great as generic hoplites. But their resemblance to the spartans in 300 is uncanny, and imagine that without that film, these figs wouldnt have been designed.
