Dr_Legoman Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) P.S.S. (Positron Space Ship) "Hammerhead" is a Stellarius class cargo-cruiser, with great load capacity and solid firepower and armor. It's a most commonly used vessel for its variety of uses, from civilian (engineering) missions, evacuation, supply and troop transport. Although a massive ship, with its four powerful engines this class of ships is very fast, but not so agile, especially in the planets atmosphere, so it usually travels with an escort. It is primarily designed for deep space flight and quick deployment of troops and materials between far away planets. It has 6 crew members: Captain, officer/pilot, 2 gunners, mechanic, and electronics operator. Cargo can be consisted of wide array of weapons, machines, vehicles, spare parts, tools or whatever else is needed in given time. Pictures show two typical military units cargo arrangement. First is with infantry support vehicles (2 tow trucks, each with field cannons attached, 4 patrol bikes, 10 cyborgs and a maintenance bot) and the second combination of units is a heavier one (8 medium and 4 heavy exo suits, 10 cyborgs and 2 tanks). Cargo hold has enormous capacity but except that there's a lot of room on board: A soldiers quarters (with 24 units on stand by, waiting for deployment), crew sector with two gunners operation positions, also tools and parts for mechanic (who shares room with gunners but often patrols around a ship for maintenance so he does not need his own office) and four beds (6 crew members take turns in resting, depending on schedule). At the top, on the back of the ship is command tower, where captain resides, and second officer in command/pilot. Above them is an observation post, most commonly used while ship is on ground, for control of deployment of materials and units through its huge cargo door. Also there are two doors on the sides of the ship for soldier’s deployment. Landing gear is consisted of six landing pads for optimal weight distribution. Front of the ship, the "hammer" is bristling with sensory equipment, for surveillance, navigation, enemy and obstacle detection and so on. For defensive purposes, on the top side of the ship there’s 5 cannons distributed evenly across the hull (3 twin and 2 quad cannons for repelling enemy ships), on the under side it has 6 twin lasers (mostly used for covering fire during deployment of troops) and finally, on the left and right side, at the back (protecting the cargo door, and rear of the ship) are two twin cannons. For playability and easy access there are a several hatches and doors (shown on the pictures): Soldiers quarters can be opened in the middle to it sides, crew quarters and first segment of cargo space also. Second segment of cargo space already has a cargo door so it is sufficient for hand approach (should this ship exists in real time and bricks). Command tower has a door from behind. It took a lot of effort to build this huge model from blank page, with just few ideas, a concept in my head, but I think it was worth the time spent, and I’ve enjoyed constructing it (until LDD overloaded, when everything went slow motion, and agony began, too much bricks I suppose, but I survived it, ship too, and here it is ). For the first time I’ve used universe mode and freedom of colors and shapes it offers. Thanks once more to everyone who made it possible. The rest of pics (from this model and others) on http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=440459 Thanks for your time. ENJOY! Edited April 25, 2011 by Dr_Legoman Quote
Legostein Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Hello! This already looks pretty good from what is visible on the first image here. BrickShelf is recently a bit slower than usual with moderating the galleries, so you might want to provide some links for the deep-linked pictures. I am keen to see the interior! Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
Baylego Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 This is really cool! It has great curves, and I like the engines. Do you have plans for making this in real bricks? Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 That's a pretty good LDD design Dr_Legoman, that's really one huge ship. The white-light bley color scheme with highlights of blue really look "cool". The design of the quad thrusters are quite nicely done. But try to resize your photo next time, it's a bit too large. Still, good job on this design! Quote
Dr_Legoman Posted September 7, 2010 Author Posted September 7, 2010 @Legostein Thanks, appreciate your comment, direct links provided (just a small portion until moderator allows my folder on brickshelf), examine the interior and tell me what you think. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead_1.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead_2.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead_3.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead_4.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead_5.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead_6.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__19.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__21.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__22.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__23.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__25.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__26.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__31.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__32.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__35.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__37.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__38.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__40.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__46.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Boris191280/Sci-Fi/p.s.s._hammerhead__54.png @Baylego I’m glad that you like the design and shared opinion with me. About the plans for the “real” ship, well, I would probably need a small fortune to buy enough bricks for this mega project (I have few mega projects smaller than this one, created in DesignByMe mode and LDD has calculated the cost of bricks from 300-500 euros!), but idea by itself is a good one, one that crossed my mind (during construction I’ve wondered how this ship would look like in reality) @KielDaMan Thanks a lot, any comments are good and welcome but the positive comments especially! About the picture, I was thinking about resizing it but with LDD pictures it’s always a gamble, because it’s hard to show every detail when everything kind a blend in one with another (except this one with background wallpaper), in contrast of real photographs where smaller resolution or size isn’t too much of a problem. For the color scheme, actually I’ve made up two armies, two sides in imaginary SF struggle, and all units on one side are using blue, light gray and white palette (Positron, good guys) and the other side is using black, red and dark gray (Darkblight, bad guys). So there are more units/creations than displayed here on the eurobricks and hopefully there will be many, many more in the future (if my imagination doesn’t run dry, although that’s not very likely to happen). noname Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Awesome! Very detailed, I can see that your modification to my spaceship was only the tip of the iceberg. Well done. Quote
Dr_Legoman Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 @noname Thanks man, I appreciate it. Cheers! @Tim13 All my models are created in LEGO Digital Designer, if that was your question. I added background space theme later. If you have any more question feel free to ask. Quote
henryhotspurs Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Wow, great detail! Keep up the phenominal work! Quote
Leo-J Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I did not realize the size until I saw the interior. Impressive ship! Quote
Dr_Legoman Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 (edited) Thanks a lot people! Any comment, question, compliment, criticism, suggestion, advice is more than welcome! P.S. I've made some modifications to the ship hull (underneath there's a bomb compartment with unloading hatches) and few random details like twin cannons on the nose and so on. It's still work in progress, every day I add something new. I haven't been active for a long time and now my inspiration is running at full capacity! Here's a few new pictures of the ship (with background) but unfortunately because of the EB rules pictures are 800x500 (widescreen). Enjoy! Edited April 22, 2011 by Dr_Legoman Quote
apemax Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 What a amazing spaceship. I love all the details and the size. Well done. Quote
Dr_Legoman Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Thank you apemax! This is my bigest LDD project so far although I have several close to it in size (I'll post them here in the near future I hope). This massive ship (together with the cargo) is built from around 10.500 bricks and estimated value by LDD calculation is around 1.800 euros. In fact LDD couldn't calculate it untill I erased half of the ship by lenght and than added a price of other half. Glad you like it! Cheers! Quote
