For the second annual CC battle contest I made this battle scene with the Shogun and his masterful samurai versus a gang of dreaded black ninja and the fearsome ninja princess!

It's the Shogun Showdown!

Let me know what you think. What would you change/improve?

MOC on!

What you have looks good.

The only thing I would suggest is to do a follow up scene to show what happens when the Ninjas get into the building. I assume they were attacking to try to get some item or assassinate someone, so maybe show what they were coming for.

Very nice scene. The action is great, and so is the building and the terrain. I really like the way you did the cherry blossom tree.

Congrats on your win. :-)

SuvieD,

I think thats a brilliant battle scene !!

I really like the garden part with the white tree !! I would have put a water fountain somewhere or a water source and a wooden bridge to crosss it but thats just me, I love water ;-)

I think you did a real good Zen building: pretty simple in the colour scheme but brilliant in the rendering !!

I wouldn't change anything ;-)

I really love your Black Ninja army !!

Is it the same contest in which Jon made the Helms Deep wall battle ??

I wish you luck for the contest and let us know if you won ;-)

Black Ninja *yoda*

That's looking great, all of the samurai are brilliantly placed, i envy you and your collection ;-) . The building is brilliantly suited to the time period. Congrats on the win.

P.S: A little off topic, but if anyone has got a samurai sword (and maybe a samurai to go with it) going spare i'd be willing to buy, as i'm looking to do a slight mini fig moc with one.

Yup. I believe Jon, Suvie and I were the only EBers who entered, but there might be more.

The contest already ended, and Suvie got third place. :-)

Tks Dillon for the heads up ;-)

Its a well deserved third place then !!

On a side note Dillon who did you and Jon do ?? Do you know by any chance ?? Oh well thats completely off topic hehe !!

There's not really any way to know, the judge only listed the top three entries. He did say that he narrowed it down to 15 entries, then went from there, and from looking at the entries, I'd guess that both Jon and I were in that 15, but like I said, there's no way to know for sure.

I really liked this when I saw it, and I'm shocked you didn't mention it was a prize winner X-D... I like the amount of detail and action combined with some lovely backdrop work (like the tree). The purist in me is startled by the spidy web cuttings (perhaps they broke naturaly ; ) but besides that this is a great MOC!

Thanks for sharing and God Bless,

Nathan

SuvieD: Nice MOC. It's nice to see someone posting Ninja pics. Ninja just seems to be a forgotten theme, and it was a good theme. I always loved the samurai, esp. their helmets.

As others have said, I absolutely love the tree. I think it may be making its way into a vignette, if I can dig up sufficient pink flowers...

Well, the ninjas never actually make it into the building. Suprise was lost in the battle to an observant guard and after losing the initial rush (what you see in the picture) they pulled back having failed. The goal was the death of the regional shogun. He is seen in the white in the pictures.

The tree had to be small and look well tended. The doubling of the flowers worked very nicely. And thanks.

A fountain or stream would have been a great addition. If the scene was a little wider I think I would have added one. The building is a test and I am looking forward to making a few Japanese style buildings in the future. The black ninja army is nice to have. I will be making a dojo for them in the near future also.

Send me a PM with what you are thinking concerning the PS. I will see what I can do.

I would have to agree. There were many good entries this year but EBers had some of the best all around.

Should I have? :-$

The ropes broke when the scissors got to them. >:-) They were fairly cheap to make such cool weapons. Only 0.12 per rope and you can get four chucks out of it. Outside of Spidey the ropes don't have many uses and i was not about to start cutting the only brown rope I have. 8-

I also like your moc a lot. Strangely if the shogun in the white outfit was the intended target and he is out in the open, why would so many ninjas attempted to enter the building? And why is the shogun fighting alone? It's strange that his men left him out in the open.

And a white, highly visible ninja leader (or princess) is just too foreign for my taste. :/ (ninjas are supposed to be "special task force" hired to do things that are illegal).

I think it would be more dramatic if the lighting was dimmed a little. Make it seem like it was an operation in the middle of the night. But then you won't be able to see the many great details of the moc. :(

I acyually think they make pretty cool banisters but I may be alone in this...

Heh, guess what song started when i got into this topic?

Everybody Want's Kung Fu Figthing.

Otherwise. Cool MOC. Like it. Makes me wish i had more ninjas.

The shogun is as in many legends very powerful warrior who is capable of holding his own. The fact that the Samurai forces know about the attack in advance allows them to counter attack. The shogun leads the attack due to his unmatched skill in war and battle, the very skill which allowed him to become shogun in the first place. It is he who cleaved the one ninja in two, relieved one of his hand and is about to dispatch of the other he is kicking. In Japan it is about honor and skill and no other warrior on the field can match the shogun's.

In the case of the white ninja, it is obvious that she is not worried about being seen and noticed. In fact she wears white to instill fear at her coming and to prey on the superstitions of the samurai. Making them doubt her humanity/spiritual state makes her role easier and helps her fellow ninja.

LEGO is hard enough to picture in good strong daylight. Perhaps if I edited them to be more blue tinted or increased the dark levels and up the contrast it could convey the effect you are talking about but the contest does not allow for that. And besides all that the whole idea of a LEGO battle scene is imagination and cool poses. Anything less than that limits creativity and takes the fun out of building.

wow, how many figs did that take! X-O

Theres not a problem alive that cant be solved by throwing lots of ninjas at it!

Excellent, mate - and out of the ordinary. That is an outstanding battle scene :)

Really cool. I like the way you made the cherry blossom tree. The actual fortress is good and all of the ninjas battling on the ledges

Since this topic has been revived anyway and I hadn't posted yet...

I love the cherry blossom tree. But it looks kinda empty besides that. Adding some bamboo plants or rocks or something to the ground would really add to the looks.

I'm so jealous at all those Ninja figs...

By the way, is this still built?

Wow, zombie topic type revival.

Thanks for all the comments. I didn't really have the time to make this what I wanted. So for me it is not so great.

I don't have room right now to have anything built unless it is smaller. I will have more room in the future though. I am getting an itch do do another mega battle scene and that time of year is coming up again.

I hope everyone makes a battle scene this year.

That door is in Fire Fortress

I wish I had more of them. Awesome part.

Very nice. I, like others, think the Sakura is a smart idea and looks great. The nunchaku are also very clever, was that your idea?.

Good job. *y*

That's one small picture. The door is also in the stone tower bridge.
