Superkalle Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Here are some pics of the new 4.0 visualisation. Add to this the brick outlines we've seen before, and we got ourselves a pretty impressive look. LDD 3.1.3 LDD 4.0 Read more here (in Danish) ...and here translated to english Quote
Fugazi Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Ooh this is lovely! They seem to have improved the looks of transparent bricks as well. I'm afraid this may require a graphics card way beyond what I have on my laptop though. Quote

But I guess it depends on how old your laptop is. Quote
Fugazi Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 My home laptop is already too old, I have to use my work laptop every time I want to dabble with LDD . I just hope the hardware requirements remain the same between LDD 3 and 4. But I'm really glad that TLC keep investing in LDD development. I'm sure that user experience will be greatly improved in version 4. Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 So when can we expect the 4.0 version of LDD? Quote
Superkalle Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 So when can we expect the 4.0 version of LDD? September was the word before summer. Other then that, I don't know Nice, but where are brick edges? I guess they are hidden in these pictures, but looking at the video, they are there. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 September was the word before summer. Other then that, I don't know I guess they are hidden in these pictures, but looking at the video, they are there. Perhaps there will be different "graphical settings" to choose from? So, for instance, you can turn brick edges on or off? That would be cool. Note that these are development shots, though, while the video was meant to be seen by the public. So it's possible that this was just the developers' way of showcasing this particular graphical feature, and was from before brick edges were added. Quote
Flare Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Wow, that looks so much better! I would make sure to keep an eagle eye out for its release... but my computer is too old to even use the current model! Edited September 9, 2010 by Flare Quote
solta Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I can hardly wait to see and try new version of LDD. I hope I could still use Lego Universe building mode. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 This just looks better and better. Thankfully, I'll be running this through VMWare Fusion on a new MacBook Pro. Quote
fred67 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 This just looks better and better. Thankfully, I'll be running this through VMWare Fusion on a new MacBook Pro. I have VMPlayer on my Ubuntu Linux, and even with 3GB of memory (1.5 given to VMPlayer) it's as slow as sin. Moreover, I'm thinking this new version might use some directx for nicer effects... which might not work on my VMPlayer. I hate dual booting. Quote

LDD 3 worked smoothly on my old laptop that had 1 gig of RAM and a pair of 1.73 gigahertz processors but was running Vista. Quote
Calabar Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Moreover, I'm thinking this new version might use some directx for nicer effects... which might not work on my VMPlayer. Very difficult, I think! The use of direct3D will limit the software to windows users, excluding mac systems that are now supported. Besidex, OpenGL have few now to envy to directX. I hope in a native linux version, instead. Quote
-JD- Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Looks like a good inprovement. The reflections look very nice, and I'm glad they put in that feature! Quote
prateek Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) I really like it a lot! Much better than the flat reflective surfaces of LDD3 Also, it would be nice if you can choose where the light is coming from, instead of the 45 degree angle of the current version. jamzee Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Does anyone happen to know when the v.4 update is being released? Quote
mgmchenry Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Does anyone happen to know when the v.4 update is being released? Maybe we should post a bounty for anyone who can come up with that info. I still don't think we'll get an answer until they're ready to ship. Quote
