kaitain Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Hi All, I haven't posted here for quite a while, but I thought you might be interested in my latest creation. A chariot racing arena based on the board game "Ave Caesar". Its completely playable and covers an area of 128 x 272 studs x 28 bricks high. Ave Caesar - Buildings ready for detailing. by kaitain, on Flickr There's still some detailing to be done, such as a cloth awning over the seating, a statue of Neptune (who turns out was the Patron God of horses and chariot racing), toga wearing spectators, and Latin inscriptions on the entrance arches. The display will be getting its first public showing at the Great Western Lego Show on the 2-3 October. Hope you all like it. Regards Kaitain Quote
I Scream Clone Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 This is a massive build kaitan Any chance of a few pictures of the interior race track? Well done on having the patience and bricks to build such a huge structure. Quote
prateek Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Wow! It's perfect already without you cloth or statues. I really like the SNOT Roman numerals you've got going on the track Quote
kaitain Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) This is a massive build kaitan Any chance of a few pictures of the interior race track? Well done on having the patience and bricks to build such a huge structure. Yep, Here's a closeup of the imperial box (which still needs detailing) Ave Caesar - Buildings ready for detailing. by kaitain, on Flickr and an earlier shot of the track on its own. Ave Caesar - Work in Progress by kaitain, on Flickr The whole thing is modular. The track is made up of ten 48x48 baseplates and the buildings are built on 16x16 and 16x32 baseplates. The four corners hang over the edge of the track, and are built on a 16 wide baseplate L arrangement. The weight of the corner keeps the columns on the baseplate as they just rest on tiles. The 2nd storey is detachable on both arches and all the seating sections. The temple and imperial box come apart as well. More WIP shots can be found on my Flickr photostream, along with my previous MCOs, a pirate display that I did last year, and the Euro Disney haunted house in 2008. Regards Kaitain I really like the SNOT Roman numerals you've got going on the track For that I've got to thank Lego Monster, another Brickish Member, who is a whiz with that sort of stuff. He rattled them out in about 10 minutes whilst visiting with his wife one weekend. I won't be able to squeeze Latin Inscriptions in SNOT on the arches so its going to be Photoshop'd bronze lettering printed onto transparency film and then slipped in front of the white panels. I just need to find some suitable inscriptions. The "Romanes Eunt Domus" is a given, for one of the corner sections or near a stairwell. Kaitain Edited September 10, 2010 by kaitain Quote

kaitain Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 WOW. Just WOW. Only thing that would make it better would be some BrickForge roman helmets and equipment :) That's something on my future enhancements list. I'm using the standard dragon and castle helmets as I've got them to hand. I wonder if BrickForge would do a discount for buying in bulk? Kaitain Quote

gotoAndLego Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Its alright if you like that kind of thing. :D ...I wonder if BrickForge would do a discount for buying in bulk? You should trade them for some arena advertising. Quote
