On this Eurobricks "Technic, Mindstorms, and Model Team" forum, we have posts by "Zblj", "Blakbird", "Mahjqa", "Sariel", "grohl", and many others. If you don't mind saying, what is the "significance" of your chosen Eurobricks member name? Is it some code name your Mommy gave you, a special town in your home country, or what?

I'll start off. "DLuders" = David Luders . I know that it's not very imaginative, but it's easy to remember. How about you? :hmpf:

I think this would go in Website & Forums, unless you were referring to dedicated members of this specific forum?

Anywho, the significance of my name is... simple? I like Lego Pirates, so "Captain", and the "M" stands for the first letter of my first name.

Let's keep this topic HERE on the "Technic, Mindstorms, and Model Team" forum so that THIS FORUM's members can readily see it. I'm one of this forum's Moderators anyway. Anybody else?

It's kind of a story.

My real Name is Hans, but a friend of mine wanted to give us all Italian names. Hans is an abriviation of John and John is in Italian Giovianni. That was shortened, so there you get Gio.

And some years ago i went late at night for a pack of sigarettes at the nearby gas station. It was a cold so i wore my hooded jacket, cap and sunglases. The guy at the gas station thought at first I was a junk because of this fashion(?)style....

Those names together gave my nickname. (BTW: It's prenounced as JunkstyleJoe..)

Easy isn't it?

My username goes back to circa 1988. The name is based on the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane which was one of the inspirations for me getting into aerospace engineering. I was getting my first account on a UNIX system at that time, and decided to name myself after my favorite plane. However, usernames were limited to 8 characters, so I had to drop a character. It was the easiest to get rid of the "c", because "blakbird" is still phonetically correct. I have retained the name on virtually every system since then. Obviously I could spell it correctly now if I wanted to, but I choose to honor the old spelling.

To this day, my two keychains are a small (1 inch) cast SR-71 model and a 2x4 gold chromed LEGO brick!

My Eurobrick-name-story is pretty boring cause that's my real name.

The nickname "Jurgmeister" which I use on Brickshelf was created by a bandmember (our drummer). He thought the music I make resembled the music of an (I think Austrian) Duo called "Kruder & Dorfmeister". He made a combination of Jurgen and Dorfmeister hence Jurgmeister.

My usernam is a total imagination... I once came up with and now i'm stuck with it  Wish I had a better idea back in the day

vmln8r = my name, Vimal + "-inator" shrunk to fit a number plate. This was six years ago, way before Phineas & Ferb was popular

In 1994 when all my friends were listening to NIRVANA, I loved metal and I really liked the drumming style of NIRVANA´s drummer Dave Grohl. Once I did not know what nick to use in a computer game, so I started using "grohl". I really like it without the starting capital "G". Dave Grohl is still one of my favourite musicians. That's it.

Mine is essentially just random characters. It came about when I was signing up for an online gaming service in the mid 90s, and every name I tried was already taken. I mashed the keyboard and came up with this. I keep it for reasons of continuity these days, as it's easily recognizable and there is 12+ years of forum history behind it at this point.

I'm a big aviation nut, so when I couldn't come up with any creative name to use, I just picked one of my favorite aircraft, the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter:

This is simply the name I came up with when registering my account at Brickset - the only concern in the choice was to keep it phonetically valid.

I've been using it ever since on LEGO-related sites.

ie10421 is a shortened version of a professional certification I carry. CCIE #10421 (Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert). Not the most original, but oh well.

Originally, for on-line purposes I would always just use "Scott," my real name. And I still do when I can get away with it. But when you go to register as a user somewhere, the username "Scott" is nearly always long gone. The system will helpfully suggest, for example, "Would you like to be 'Scott056943'"? Obviously, that's just unacceptable. One day long ago, when prompted with such a query, I looked about my room, saw one of my guitars, and though to myself: "The word 'telecaster' juxtaposed with the word 'man' would be wholly un-original, but entirely sufficient for the immediate exigency." I was happily "telecasterman" for many years, and used that name here. But in recent times, bands of unscrupulous doppelganger telecastermen have apparently appropriated my username, sullying the reputation of all good telecastermen everywhere. Thus, on Flickr and YouTube, I was confronted with: "The username 'telecasterman' is not available. Would you like to be 'telecasterman736352'?" Thus, I was compelled to resort to that wisest sage of cyberspace--the Internet Anagram Server. There and then "telecasterman" became "arcanemettles." (And with so many more to chose from, may there never be a "arcanemettles946572.")

Mine is from back when i was working as a car audio installer

I wanted to get something to go on my personalised plate that was related to my long standing interest in car audio so i came up with FREQNC

But i like to use the unabbreviated form as a nick as it's just easier

I also use it as my airsoft callsign because it's hard to confuse with anything else over comms

My first real job was as a rock-blasting inspector for excavation. Explosives, seismographs and big toys. I'd give the "OK" when it was time to activate the explosives... Hence the name!

I used to use a nickname for years online (Darmok - from a Star Trek Episode)

But I've kinda of outgrown it...

It's like I have nothing to hide behind any more..

I'm happy enough to use my full name, or rbeckett for most online signups..

Especially since there's not many systems in the world that limit you to 8character usernames! ;)

My Eurobrick-name-story is pretty boring cause that's my real name.

That's the easiest name to remember. Especially at meetings, because remembering someone's "real life" name when you know his/her "internet" name is the easiest when they coincide. :classic:

Sooo...I guess you know my story too now (hint: it's equally boring )

Edit: plus what Rohan says... it gives you most control about what comes up first when googling your name :)

My real name. INitially I was a little concerned about giving any personal information on forums etc and as a consequence I stated using "linmix" (I was playing arond with several different Linux Distros and trying to find the best one for me, although LEGO seems to be forcing me to keep using Windows) but after some time I gave up on that although I am of course stuck with the name on the forums I started using it on.

ILI IUR IN NURAK SESSAR

This arcane sentence is still visible on the top of a nuraghe door frame next the Bortigaly town. It's one of the few survived sentences in ancient nuragic language and it's sadly unintelligible, except obviously for the word 'nurak'. Since my AFOL dream is building a LEGO nuraghe (I guess it's a very difficult achievement), I decided when I registered in ItLUG community to give myself this nick. 80 is my birth year.

My surname shortened from TROPEANO to TROPY.
