Posted September 24, 201014 yr After seeing Profound Whatevers Up house, which he didn't finish, I was inspired to make my own version. In this topic I'll share some wip pictures with you guys. Feel free to post comments and suggestions on how to improve the house. First wip shot: First I made the base estimating how big I wanted the house to be. Secondly I build the bay windows. After I finished those, I realized the base was to small... So I had to redo it. Second wip shot: So I made the base bigger in order to not make the bay windows look extremely big. I build the left wall and started on the porch. I used the same fence idea as Profound Whatever, so credit goes to him. I've also added pink shutters to the windows in stead of glass. Looks better in my opinion. I've made 2 big BL orders to get some more medium blue, lime and orange building bricks. When the order arrives I'll be able to build the entire left side of the house. For the right side I'll need a heavey load of pink bricks... I'm hoping they'll have pink bricks in the PAB in LEGOworld. I would be very grateful if you helped me with the following things: - I'm not happy with the front door. Any ideas on how to make a nice brick build door? - I have absolutely no clue on how to attach the bay windows to the base of the house. There will be no baseplate under this MOC so I can't attach it to a base plate... - There will be no interior. Should I block out the windows? September 24, 201014 yr I like it so far! To be honest, I have no idea what you mean by the bay windows, they look attached to me, perhaps a different picture showing where you need help on it? As for the interior, I would not block out the windows, the interior is going to be pretty dark anyway, only showing a little bit of light, so it should be ok. For the door, I actually like the door, the only thing I might change about it would be to use only 1 1x4 plate instead of two. I know that kind of sounds confusing I hope that made sense. Good luck, I love this movie and I hope the house comes out perfect!
September 24, 201014 yr I am so happy someone is making a MOC from of my favorite movies! It is pretty good so far. I really do think you should make an interior, it would make it much nicer and more movie accurate. I hope to see updates soon!
September 24, 201014 yr Author I am so happy someone is making a MOC from of my favorite movies! It is pretty good so far. I really do think you should make an interior, it would make it much nicer and more movie accurate. I hope to see updates soon! I don't think an interior will be possible. There will be a thingy inside the house to which I can attach balloons filled with helium. I want the entire house to float. Underneath the house will be a baseplate with the yard where this house once stood.
September 25, 201014 yr Author Are you going to make Carl and Russel to go with it ? Yep! I already ordered wavy lupin hair in grey for Carl. I still need a tan cap for Russel. And I'm still wondering about what I am going to do with the dog... Nice! It all looks good so far! Thanks!
September 25, 201014 yr Author Time for an update: There have been some minor changes. The yellow wall has been raised by two bricks. I finally found a way to connect the bay windows to the rest of the house. I used hinges for it. Thanks for the suggestion. I finished the railing above the porch and tiled the floor. I finally SNOTted a door I liked and I made the back door, not visible in this shot. I used the mexicans maracas for a door handle on the back door. Now I want a doorknob on the front door as well. I hope my BL orders will arrive today. So I can build the front and part of the back of the house. The bay windows wil be raised higher by 1 or 2 bricks.
September 28, 201014 yr Author Time for a new update: The First floor is nearly finished. The bay window is still missing two small windows, which have been ordered. I’m stuck at the moment. I don’t want to start building the second floor before the first floor is finished. Since I still haven’t found a decent amount of pink bricks I can’t finish the first floor. So I’ll check out PAB at LEGO World and if there aren’t any pink bricks there, I’ll have to order from BL. This project is turning out to be more expensive than I thought at first. But I still think it’s worth it. Next thing I’m going to do is blind the windows. By the way I'm strongly resisting the urge to use adhesive on the shutters because they just won't shut. Thanks for reading and posting comments.
September 28, 201014 yr This is progressing along nicely, COOL so far - keep on going - I too hope to see customs of Carl and Russel ! I'm a conformist! 'badboytje88' keeep on bricking !
September 28, 201014 yr Very nice! I can't wait for the end product! Just make sure to go to your craft store and get a bunch of small multicoloured balls for the balloons.
October 4, 201014 yr Author Any one got an idea for Carls head? Currently I'm using the standard minifig head with glasses but this head doesn't look old/grumpy enough.
October 4, 201014 yr Fantastic work on the house so far -- accurate, efficient and attractive. Love the way you built the door! :D
October 4, 201014 yr Any one got an idea for Carls head? Currently I'm using the standard minifig head with glasses but this head doesn't look old/grumpy enough. That's the problem with animated characters. They're never the right scale/shape.
October 5, 201014 yr Author Fantastic work on the house so far -- accurate, efficient and attractive. Love the way you built the door! :D Thank you. The door really was a pain in the bum but I like how it turned out. That's the problem with animated characters. They're never the right scale/shape. Yep... It sucks. And I don't want to use decals, I'm a purist. Maybe I should just go with a grumpy face without glasses and attach those glasses (the ones you can attach to a helmet) to the head of the fig...
October 5, 201014 yr Author I don't own the head plus he is wearing a cowboy hat, has a beard and no glasses...
October 5, 201014 yr Well done on this so far, I love how its shaping up! The level of detail and the bay window are my favorite parts of it so far. Good work mate, and definitely keep bricking!
October 7, 201014 yr Author Today I had some time to work on my Up house. I finished the yellow wall section above the bay window. I tried 3 or 4 different ways to construct the wall section, this one is the final one, but I'm not sure if I'm 100% satisfied about it. Still need a shit load of pink bricks. I'd be ever so grateful if you guys could give me your opinion about the yellow wall above the bay window.
October 7, 201014 yr It's really comming along nicely, great work 'badboytje88' and I'm a conformist! !
October 9, 201014 yr Beutiful! I've seen Up and I was nearly crying (it's quite a depressing film) but you got it accurately.
