Modena!! :)

i'm buying them by bricklink.com the problem is the shipping elapsing time, from england it would take about 2 weeks.. and in italy there are just a few good shops (shipping is very expensive as service... packages with the same weight is cheaper from out of italy... a real shame like other thing in our country). the best shops to get bricks are in trentino alto adige (two of them are unbeliavable good in service, brick cost and delivery speed), but there are some in Rome too so you can buy brick personally :)

ooook.. the really SAD thing is: i'm studying medicine :DDD

ok, from this page: www.bricklink.com you have to edit your profile, login and go to the folder "buy". from here you can see in the top section (in the middle) a series of items and lower there's a list of countries. choose italy and all the shops will be shown divided by region, many of them in Lazio are from rome... good luck ;)

Looking good! I like the colour scheme and the interior deck details. I wonder if the gunport line would like better with a visible line of tan above the flags rather that straight into the black?

hi all. because of the limited space on imageshack i've to remove all the old pics, and add new ones by every update...

these are my last progress, i'm very glad to share this project step by step and get all the tips you want to give!

Matteo,

If you were to resize your images to 600x800 pixels, you would be able to fit more pics in your imageshack folder.

I would also recommend using Brickshelf or Flickr. They're both free and have more room available for your images.

There is a Eurobricks Tutorial Index that contains a lot of helpful information for resizing images and such.

starting covering the bridge...

i'm still trying to figure something for the stern, i've got some nice idea but can't use the LDD... (using kubuntu...) and i'm drawing it on the paper for building right bricks.

UPDATE 19/10/10

hi all. because of the limited space on imageshack i've to remove all the old pics, and add new ones by every update...

these are my last progress, i'm very glad to share this project step by step and get all the tips you want to give!

N.B. at last it will be an heavy frigate, not a light one (but i don't know if it's possible to change the topic title!!)

for the name i would like to wait 'till hull was finished :pir_laugh2: and i still don't know if this ship will rise a french flag or a bluecoat flag...

sdc10746.th.jpg

from the top... it's missing an arch 'cause the seller made a mismatch counting them... :pir_bawling: and there's the stove placed between the foremast

sdc10745c.th.jpg

another quick shot...

gunport closed, tan gunline...

thanks for every comment or tip you want to make!

ok.. i've made some other progress (more pics soon) and covered most of the upper bridge, now i've to build bow and stern and there're the biggest problems...

in this forum i've always seen french and english ships (and some american model..) and i really like them, as i wanted to build a french frigate... but i'm becoming curious about the dutch fleet... just to build something different. to use their style have i to make a platform on the front mast? and a more detailed stern? i can't find any pic of a dutch frigate after 1670 on the web :pir-cry_sad: any tip?

maybe i'll build a french or an english ship the same, but i would like to try to figure something different first...

those seems to be late 1600 galleons (looking at the rigging) but they've right the same details i thought: a strongly detailed stern, a platform at the end of the front mast and an heavily curved hull. do dutch ships share the same looking in late 1700-early 1800? 've seen the artwork about the english and dutch attack on algeri in 1816 but i can't get much details from it :(

thanks for the pics they're very useful!

here i am again.

these are a pair of pics about my latest progress, some other bricks are on their way to my home, but there's still a lot of work to do (that's a relief, i really love to work on this ship and i don't have any hurry about finishing her soon...)

sdc107560.th.jpg

sdc107570.th.jpg

of corse the entire bridge will be tiled so the coloured plates will be covered. the building of the bow has been suspended because of the construction of the cat's tails (i'm still working on them).

i just don't have idea about the technique to use about the masts, i've seen great works using round bricks...but there's still a lot of time before that :pir-hmpf_bad:

i've tried to make the profile more drammatically curved next to the bow to look like a dutch ship (thanks admiral croissant for the tips, hope to use them rightly!)

Looking good!

Only things I would change is make the railings with normal bricks instead of (brown) slopes.

And perhaps make the hole in the middle, between the gangways, a bit larger.

But the tiled decks look great and the colourscheme is nice as well.

I think the line on the last picture is indeed better.

Good luck!

the brown slopes are the base for a dark green line with yellow finishes... i'm still waiting the bricks.. and that line will be vertical as with normal bricks :)

talking about the hole... i think i cant' undestand, may you explain?

I mean like this:

hole0.jpg

I don't mean that it's wrong now, but this may be more usual.

So like the red line, or even larger like the 'dotted' line closer to the foremast.

i see.. the problem enlarging the hole is due to the brick archs on the lower deck, enlarging even 1 stud will expose the archs :pir-hmpf_bad: lenghtwise there's the half stud step so this operation can' be done... i've made a skylight to open some more the bridge, and hope to make a realistic illusion by placing sidewalls loosing 1 stud by side (so the hole even with the same dimension could appear larger). i'll see qhat i can do with the next load of bricks

I like the colour scheme you've chosen and the line is already pretty good!

At the bow the gaps between the bricks look somewhat large, perhaps it can be improved with adding an extra hinge?

I'd change the brown slopes for normal bricks as well, but that could be just a matter of personal preference.

Keep it up!

i really like how it looks!

And so do I! :pir-classic: I'm not sure about the green line, perhaps making it just black with yellow will look more realistic.

And it seems like the part where the figurehead is attached to, is protruding a bit too much, but it could be due to the camera angle.

But outside of that I think this is becoming a very nice frigate. Good shape, good colours, good arrangement, etc.

Keep it up!

uhm..what about a blue line? or dark red.. i would like to add a bit of color... but i think i've got a lot ob black bricks so i could try with them.

the figurehead sustain is 13 stud long, maybe 10 studs looks better...

Yes I think blue will look realistic. Dark red is also an option, but it could be too dark so that it almost looks black.

You could try a part in normal red and in blue and decide what looks best or let us show both options.

10 studs is certainly worth a try. The Vesta's sustain is also 10 studs and that looks quite good. :pir-classic:
