Aalak Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 And those holes on the main deck, are they gunports? Or just for letting the water run away? For gunports the shape is a bit strange IMO. I guess they are gunports, there is one line of black bricks over the tiled deck, than the red line... you could see it on the back railing ... btw. they are identical to the one I used on the ARES, you didn't complain there about it I like them! They'll look different, when there is a gun insinde of them... Quote

Admiral Croissant Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 No on the Ares they look good. It's the gunports with the red circle around them. The one with the green circle (which Ares has) looks good. But the one with the red cirkle seems to have the shape I made in red on the picture. But it could be due to the camera angle.. Quote

But it could be due to the camera angle.. they're made the same way :) but (i don't know why) the camera changes heavily the shape of the gunports (and of the entire ship...she looks really different). by the way i think i'm removing those gunports to make place to a brickbuilt fence... i'm using as a guide "the history of the french frigate 1650-1850" to get some ideas. brickmack Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Nice ship. Looks a lot better than when I last saw it a few months ago. Good progress. Quote
Matteo1130 Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) ok, i've understood there're a lot of "errors" in my interpretation of a model... but i love this and i would like to continue in my project as a game instead of a model, adding only the details i could make :/ by the way i'm in the mood of posting every progress, hoping to be helpful to someone purposing techniques :) here's some shot of the bow on finishing (i'm still missing a lot of pieces but i really wanted to make an idea of the final shape) i think the masts will have a different colour (reddish brown 2x2 round bricks with black 2x2 round plates every 3 or 4 bricks maybe.. but i'll be glad to get some suggestion before to make some order..) in this pics there's an illusion that makes the hull curve more dramatically on the bow.. i think it looks realistic only on an early 1700 frigate, i'm still looking at my reference book to get some idea to make the stern plausible with the age of the ship (once finished the bow) i think the figurehead will be a triton with a dark green fishtail, yellow torso and an old man head, with white accessory beard and a golden crown.. i think there's a trident in some series so i could call my ship "Poseidon" wich is a good name for an english and/or a french ship... let's see.. Aalak Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I like the process, especially the slopes under the red line ... can't tell you why exactly but I like it .. Since I don't have a clue what the brick-fence would look like, I say change the gunports for the fence and if it don't feel right change it back :) That's the good thing with LEGO, we could change things everytime and I since I have no clue what's inside "the history of the french frigate 1650-1850", I would suggest to make smaller castles and use the space between for the fence. I think this would give you the best of both ways. Good luck with her... P.S. Poseidon is a great Name for ships who tend up to swim with the decks upside down ... sorry just thought about bad Kurt Russell movies (and the Classic movie came to mind. too) The Name could work, enough parts for a great figure-head should also be available, like the trident and a crown. And I would like to sail the Ares beside her... Poseidon and Ares side by side ... "The Greek Squadron" ... we should add the Achille, too... It's a shame that the Vesta is a Roman Godess... I think there are some more Ships named after Greek Mythology but I couldn't remind them. Quote
Matteo1130 Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 thank tou alak, i'll try to make a castle...but i'm afraid the ship will come too high. i'll see :) Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Yeah I wouldn't make the forecastle higher. As for the figurehead, I remember Blackmoor's Fourageux once had a Poseidon (or sort of) as figurehead. Maybe helpful for inspiration. Here is a picture. Quote
