Erynion Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Quoting WhiteFang... or BertFang... or whoever he is... in the Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 2 Building Contest Voting... Please note that cheating or rally your friends, co-workers, and whoever that is not active in Eurobricks but owns an Eurobricks account but wants to vote for the sake of voting in terms will be frowned and may or will be subjected to further inquiry. And now quoting HinckleStein or whoever on the frontpage... Today's the last day to vote, so let's thank him for all his great design and theme concepts over the years and vote for his entry here. Hmm, so we're not allowed to rally our friends to vote for us in an EB contest, yet the staff are allowed to rally an entire forum to vote for someone in an off-site contest? Quoting something from a WoW comic from years ago... And you see no conflict of morality in that? Quote
Cecilie Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Hmm, so we're not allowed to rally our friends to vote for us in an EB contest, yet the staff are allowed to rally an entire forum to vote for someone in an off-site contest? I guess it's a matter of the rules of the contest in question. The minifig contest here on EB is a contest about who builds the vig most people like, it's not a "who has more friends"-contest. However, the Kylie contest actually says to rally up friends to vote using facebook or whatever, so it really is a "who has more friends"-contest, and hence, there's nothing wrong in gathering EB-members to vote in that particular contest. In my opinion anyway... Quote
Siegfried Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm guessing he's talking about this: http://amodularlife.wordpress.com/2010/10/01/10217-%E2%80%93-diagon-alley/ (this is the only place I've read about it, but I'm guessing it's posted somewhere in the Licensed forum as well) It was a joke. I'm very well aware of that set; it cost a great deal of my time yesterday! Hmm, so we're not allowed to rally our friends to vote for us in an EB contest, yet the staff are allowed to rally an entire forum to vote for someone in an off-site contest? Yes, that's correct. Aside from missing the point of the contest (as in the quality of your MOC) since you need to join EB to vote in a contest we don't want hoards of people joining to vote once and never post. But this contest is on a website, not a forum, and thus it doesn't have the same problem. In the end the winner of that vote is not necessarily the winner of the contest, and I suspect in the end it'll mean little. Also, as Cecilie says, they are asking people to do that; Vote for this entry using the Star Ratings above, or tell everyone by using the 'tweet' button for Twitter , or 'Save/Share' buttons for loads of other sites and networks. In the end it's all meant as album promotion. Their contest their rules, our contest our rules. No conflict of morality at all.... and why the negative attitude anyway? I don't think we deserve it at all. WhiteFang worked his butt off over these contests and I think you owe him an apology for questioning his morality. Quote

Catch up. Quoting WhiteFang... or BertFang... or whoever he is... in the Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 2 Building Contest Voting... Cecilie Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 It was a joke. I'm very well aware of that set; it cost a great deal of my time yesterday! Well, I guess I'm bad at telling when people are making jokes when I can't see their faces Quote
Erynion Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I guess it's a matter of the rules of the contest in question. In the end the winner of that vote is not necessarily the winner of the contest, and I suspect in the end it'll mean little. I see, now it is more clear to me. Those are a couple things I didn't understand or that I didn't really think about. I'll admit that I didn't read into the rules or anything really on the Kylie site (didn't even know who she was until I looked her up on Wikipedia yesterday ). I read the rules for the EB contest a few days ago and then a couple days later this request for people to go vote for the Kylie contest shows up, and the whole thing just seemed a little... not sure what's the word... hypocritical, maybe, but that's too strong. I just had to point it out. In the end it's all meant as album promotion. Their contest their rules, our contest our rules. No conflict of morality at all.... and why the negative attitude anyway? I don't think we deserve it at all. WhiteFang worked his butt off over these contests and I think you owe him an apology for questioning his morality. You misread me. I'm not trying to show a negative attitude about the whole thing, and I guess 'morality' was probably too strong a word. That last quote was somewhat of a joke anyways... Quote
Hinckley Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 There's still time to vote! And Matt only needs 20 more votes to move up one place! Quote

That last quote was somewhat of a joke anyways... Nah, we read you for exactly what you meant, and we're big enough to laugh at it. And you. <-- the smiley makes it a friendly post, not hypocritical *everyone drink!* Now everyone go vote! Quote
