shary Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Hi, I want to show you an incredible moc called Euromap. Two German AFOLs had the idea to make a huge relief of Europe and mark places of interest with microscale/architecture style buildings. The places of interest were built by a wide range of European AFOLs. My husband and I built 2 of the 44 mocs - the Riesenrad (Prater, Vienna) and the Hagia Sophia (Istanbul) Find the whole story and pics on http://www.t-reichling.de/en/mocs_euromap.shtml Verena Quote
bricked one Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 That is amazing! How long did it take to make that? Quote
shary Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 From the homepage I linked: "After several months of planning, we could start in April 2010 with designing and in June with building." The microscale models we built took about 2 weeks (building just a few hours but planing and ordering the necessary bricks took a while ) Quote
Pet-Lego Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Very nice work. I really like the big red you are here arrow. ;) Quote
MetroiD Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Wow, that's brilliant! I'd love to see the Euromap in person someday - are you planning on displaying it at a big convention? And are you planning on having more local landmark MOCs added to it? Quote
shary Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Wow, that's brilliant! I'd love to see the Euromap in person someday - are you planning on displaying it at a big convention? And are you planning on having more local landmark MOCs added to it? It was displayed at the LEGO Fan Weekend in Skaerbaek. As I know it's planed to visit other conventions with the map. I'm not sure wheather an expansion is planed and more Mocs will be added... that can only be answered by Tobias or Bruno - the two guys who came up with the idea and built the whole map. Quote

MetroiD Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 that can only be answered by Tobias or Bruno - the two guys who came up with the idea and built the whole map. lightningtiger Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 That is just wild and crazy......totally AWESOME ! Us Aussie AFOL's should do the same for the map of Oz ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
bricked one Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 (edited) Are the microscale models to scale with each other? Edited September 29, 2010 by bricked one Quote
WhiteFang Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 This is such a brilliant and incredible display! Having to see all of these micro iconic structures across Europe is just outstanding. I really hope by the end of the show, this could be a permanent display exhibit in a museum instead of demolishing it which is a waste. Thanks for sharing with us. And, to Bobby. Thanks for blogging this inside Classic-Town.net. Quote
shary Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Are the microscale models to scale with each other? No When you look at the fotos showing the whole map you can see that e.g. big ben, the leaning tower of pisa, hagia sopia are much bigger than e.g. edinburgh castle, the cathedral of cologne or santiago de compostela. Fluyt Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 This looks amazing Great idea, it turned out perfect. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Wow, that's truly a fantastic creation! The landmark buildings are great, but I'm even more impressed by the brickbuilt Europe map! It looks very realistic with the clever use of different colors to approximate the various landforms. I hope someone from Asia will do the same for our continent. Quote
shary Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 And are you planning on having more local landmark MOCs added to it? Tobias is not registered here but he told me today that they will add further landmark MOCs. So if you have interestings suggestions/suitable microscale mocs just contact them Quote
MetroiD Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I most definitely will, thanks shary ;) Quote
Teddy Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 This is so cool! Just awesome! I really like the fact they put up miniature buildings near their actual location. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Randal Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 This is pretty impressive. It reminds me of amusement park maps with the rides drawn on their locations. =) Quote
greg3 Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) That looks amazing!! The map itself is stunning and then you add on the landmarks.. simply brilliant!! Edited October 31, 2010 by greg3 Quote
