Zip Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Wow, these are underwhelming. I'll emphasize later. Quote
cheesey skrall Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) Meltdowns head is still prelim right? right?!?! meh, still looks cool, but is he ketongu yellow? EDIT: OMG mixed colour tridax pod!!!111! Edited February 14, 2010 by cheesey skrall Quote
Brickthing Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Meltdowns head is still prelim right? right?!?!meh, still looks cool, but is he ketongu yellow? EDIT: OMG mixed colour tridax pod!!!111! The actual set looks yellow to me. The box poses of the baddies look much better now, probably close to their final version. Although the simple Ben 10 limbs and torsos on the 4 boxed villains is disappointing, some of the weapons (especially the red/orange Krika blade) look amazing! I also have to say that the amount of orange recolours on the Furno bike and Rotor is incredible, and would really complete my range of orange MOCing parts. Quote
cheesey skrall Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 corroder haz more more wepons on hiz back!!1 Meltdown is still my favorite Quote
Bfahome Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 That bike is so hawt. Looks like it has two launchers, too. Quote
The Alchemyst Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 All the helmets got really weird. Especially Surge's. Bulk's got this random horn smack dab in front of his face too. Von Nebula still looks silly. Box background is the best part. ._. Spike parts will have some use though, might have to bricklink them. Rotor is... Keet? I got less interested. ;-; And for the love that is common sense, I hope that face gets holes or something. If it's Orange, I'll be getting for sure though. Furno bike still looks okay. It looks like they took a Technic bike, slapped on Bionicle parts and an Av-toran. $30 is not appealing, so I'll wait for a parts list and instructions. Box art is amazing. Whoever did it needs to get promoted. And do every box art. Forever. Corroder still looks silly with all those weapons. Xplode is so short, like a chibi. Thunder looks better, but what's with his mass of black legs? Meltdown is suffering the same with a black torso and black upper legs. Just a blob of black and then yellow extensions. :s So looks like I'll be getting Rotor, Meltdown and one of the smaller sets. I'd get Stringer, but his arm is really annoying me. Quote
80 Dollar Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 All the helmets got really weird. Especially Surge's. Bulk's got this random horn smack dab in front of his face too. They also have those little microphones on their helmets...bleh. Duncan turned out to be great for those silver pieces and I really like Rotor and the bike. Thunder is interesting...a little messy but interesting. Quote
Ikki o' Moopyville Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Well, I definitely see some interesting pieces there -- black hands, yellow Metru legs, some sweet helmets, especially Nat's! And stars, I hope those are recolored Glat heads, though that does sound unlikely! But overall, this is majorly underwhelming. Heck, '05 had a better array of sets than this. -_- I'll probably be saving my money, although I'm glad to see the Biopieces are continuing. -Ikk Quote
The Alchemyst Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Heck, '05 had a better array of sets than this.-Ikk I was about to say that this was an over-exaggeration. Then I remembered the beast playsets and the even better titans. Now I agree. Quote
Leugi Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Yeah, it's quite underwhelming... Some nice bits here and there, but only bits... Might as well get Xplode and Thunder though, they are nice enough.... Quote

I don't know where do you see ben10 torsos, these are differents, and doesn't have the four balljoints for the arms. I think Xplode doesn't contain any Ben10 parts, too. Edited February 14, 2010 by _shaddow_ Quote
vexorian Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Then it looks like we'll be getting a worse torso piece than the Ben 10 ones. Take a look, it is a new mold which seems like the fusion of the Inika torso and hips. And at least thunder has Ben 10 limbs. Quote
the last chronicler Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Clicky Orange is still in the game!!! Quote
The Dor Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Oh I love these. I absolutely do. Gonna go ahead and do a quick review of opinions: Corroder: My opinion of Corroder has completely turned around since I saw the first pic of him (same w/ XPlode, but in the opposite direction). Maybe it's just the pose he has on the box, but I like the idea of this guy climbing up walls. He fits it very well. His back is much more armored than his front, so maybe he's designed to stay low to the ground. Also, he has so many tri-pronged pieces. I love the new armor piece, and the massive claws (six of them! :D). He's probably my favorite of the medium sized sets. Not sure on how his Thornax is attached though. XPlode: This was probably my favorite when I saw the first pics, aside from maybe Thunder. Now he just looks sad. The Glatorian hands look so out of place on him. I like the large claws that everyone else has. But. I still don't know how his torso is constructed. Also, he has two more of the tri-pronged pieces. And the yellow to red Krika leg piece. And three of the spiked armor pieces. And I'm a fan of his stockier build. Thunder: Not quite sure if I like Corroder or Thunder better. Both are awesome. I am still probably in favor of Corroder, though. Thunder has a lot of the same feel as Onua Mistika, except more awesome. However, the shoulder that has Inika shoulder armor may need modified. The current placement of the armor would impede drastically on the range of motion in the joint. I do like the whole Hordika neck elbows concept though. I would not mind seeing more of it. Meltdown: Same torso construction as XPlode? I believe so. Not sure if he has a Glatorian head underneath his helmet or not. But I like it either way. Also has the elbow structure Thunder has. I'm very curious about what appears to be shoulder armor, as well as the apparent lack of tubing on the physical set as opposed to the box art. Probably just improper construction. And I love the effect of the tentacle seeming like a tube of goo coming out of his weapon. Von Nebula: This guy had so much potential. He looked like he was going to be so amazing. And he's terrible. No elbows! On a titan sized set! Come on! I'll still probably end up buying him though, just because he has great pieces. Black Hydraxon mask. Multi colored Tridax pod. Awesome new black and blue spikes. He also sort of reminds me of a wolfman. Not entirely sure why. Rotor: I'm not sure, but I think he has EYES sculpted into his helmet. I hate that. Other than that, he seems to have the first Inika build this year. The propeller looks awesome. And orange Thornax launcher? Hell yes. Hip support cause by Metru Matoran arms? Maybe a problem. Overall, I like this guy quite a bit. Certainly more than Von Nebula. Drop Ship: Awesome. $50 awesome? Maybe not. I do like it though. Certainly better than Rockoh T3. Also, the torso even further confirms that the emblem is a separate piece. I really dislike the blue helmet & blue head combo. And the Av-Matoran arms are not what I had hoped for. I'm hoping for some cool functions on this set, but I certainly don't see any. Furno Bike: Possibly my favorite vehicle ever. A legitimate bike. After the failure of the Destral Cycle, the almost-cycle Cendox, and the cool but definitely not bike Kaxium, I want this. So badly. The Mata feet look terribly out of place though. And I'm not quite sure what shade the bike is. Orange? Keetongu yellow? Some shade b/t the two? I dunno. Quote

Furno Bike's price-to-pats ratio is one of the worst: $30 for 165 pieces. Drop Ship's is pretty bad too, $50 for 390 pieces. Quote

I think Xplode doesn't contain any Ben10 parts, too. On a closer look your right - they're the same as the Hero torsos. I still don't like the simplification of the torso though, and I really really hope that the boxed sets will remain at 2009 canister price because of their low piece count. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fbtbnet/43575...in/photostream/notice the stuff on the side? looks to me like some sort of villain. resembles old war planes nad how they used to make a mark for every one of something they shot down. It could be similar to the markings on Star Wars Republic dropships, to give each ship it's own personality and tell them apart. At $50 I'm not 100% sure of the dropship, but the panels look good and there are some nice recolours in there. I can see some gears in the back, which I think either move the wing lasers or (hopefully) make something drop from the back. Given that this isn't Bionicle anymore the mass spread of stickers is forgivable (I wouldn't be applying them, and the parts are more useful not printed), but it's disappointing to see that the pilot has black feet, purely for hiding the poorly covered nose of the ship. The Furno bike is definitely orange people. It's such a pity that there none of the other primary Bohrok pieces are avaliable in orange. Quote

I agree with the Cendox bit, although I haven't picked it up yet >.< And, honestly, price-to-parts for me is not so much of an issue as the quality of the set, primarily the price-to-size. I think the Furno Bike looks like it would be a $30 set. Drop Ship doesn't quite as much, but I dunno. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fbtbnet/43575...in/photostream/notice the stuff on the side? looks to me like some sort of villain. resembles old war planes nad how they used to make a mark for every one of something they shot down. I can see that now, in the newer pics :D EDIT: I also just noticed Von Nebula uses a Phantoka torso! Woot! :D Edited February 15, 2010 by The Dor Quote
Brickus Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 These are no different than BIONICLE sets. Quote
vexorian Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Cendox was bloody kickass, mind you.Furno Bike's price-to-pats ratio is one of the worst: $30 for 165 pieces. Drop Ship's is pretty bad too, $50 for 390 pieces. The whole line seems over priced. At first the heroes followed av-matoran tradition. But the rest are really hard to believe. The small villains are not really as complete as toa/glatorian were to deserve the 13 bucks tag. They would have been fine with 11, imho. The large titans are very small and have few pieces in comparison to last year's titans at the same price, in fact they are just the usual toa build with some few extra accessories and piston legs. Specially with these guys, it does not seem that excuses such as new molds would work this time considering these two guys are mostly made of old bionicle pieces... Drop ship is insanely bad in regards to price, it is smaller than Rockoh but costs 20% more. Quote
Bundalings Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Anyone else notice that they changed the 3 axle with stud from bley to dark tan? I gotta say, I love the new box style. Of the little guys, Mark, Preston (despite the arm/tool mold...) and Natalie look pretty cool. Von Nebula looks like he has some cool parts, build wise and piece wise, but... the overall effect is very... poor. Rotor looks soooo cool. He better never get eyes. Drop Ship and Furno Bike look alright. Dunno about the price, though... Of the larger guys, Meltdown is the only one that looks really cool to me... I'll probably end up liking the others more as time goes on... But seriously. Best. Boxart. Ever. Quote
Brickthing Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Thunder, Meltdown, Corroder, and XPlode are all at $12.99. That's less than the US Ben 10 prices isn't it? With any luck the Villains might be less than NZD$25 (Glatorian and Ben 10 price)! Anyone else notice that they changed the 3 axle with stud from bley to dark tan?But seriously. Best. Boxart. Ever. That change has already happened with the first waves of 2010 sets. I can also see some of the new dark-grey 4-axles-with-stop appearing in some of the HF sets. I wish we'd had more of this style for boxes in Bionicle. Both the vibrant villains style and the concept designs of the vehicle sets look fantastic, and the box art makes Von Nebular actually look menacing and evil! Quote
Mesonak Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Alrighty, time for thoughts. =D Duncan Bulk: If he turns out to have gray hands instead of silver I don't know what I'll do. But it won't be pretty. Mark Surge: Yay. He looks cool now. Natalie Breez: That helmet and those weapons are <3 Jimi Stringer: What the hell happened here? Preston Stormer: Torso armor is love. Helmet's cool too. William Furno: Decent. Corroder: Looks pretty cool. Probably my favorite Medium-sized set. Back is heavily armored; I like that. Xplode: See Jimi Stringer. Meltdown: See Jimi Stringer and Xplode. Thunder: Yay for silver Stars feet and asymmetrical-ness. Von Nebula: Looks a lot better. Lack of elbows is still lol-worthy. =P Rotor: THANK GOD HES ORANGE *ahem* Dropship: Lol seriously overpriced. Furno Bike: I love you Lego. -Mesonak Quote
Nightmare Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) So... Corroder and XPlode just shrunk. Greaaaaaaaaaaaat >_> Corroder still looks good, but XPlode looks... ridiculous. Hope that it is just on pics, and that once the set is released, we find out it's much better. And Von nebula... Too bad he has not a new mask or face, but Hydraxon's looks good. And... two Bohrok faceplates in black, which weren't seen since the Exo-Toa. Great! :D EDIT: Von Nebula's legs are backwards in reference to BIONICLE sets. And it is the official form :P Edited February 15, 2010 by Nightmare Quote
