The shipping is like twice as much.

Plus, S@H has some nice sales on other sets going on, so hoping those are still up when the Hero Factory sets become available.

The white Visorak. Forget how to spell its name. Suukorak or something.

Raaawr I can't wait to get these guys. I think I'll order all six heroes when they come on S@H.

And Ski/Ice Slizer! Don't forget him!

Meanwhile, since nobody seemed to notice my edits in my last post...

In other news, building instructions for Hero Factory sets are online! Just discovered this while browsing the Products page-- click the link to the upper right of any product image to get to a page where you can download the PDF building instructions! Even though they're not yet linked from service.lego.com, the PDFs are available! Exclamation point exclamation point exclamation point!

I'm very excited about this, in case you can't tell. =P

Furthermore, confirmation of what we'd all suspected: even robots have a pervy side.

BRILLIANT new promo vid as well. I really wonder if I should bump this topic... :look:

Maybe I should have bumped it... But whatevs. Now that I can actually post again without that sort of dilemma it's no problem.

Also note that the building instructions in question seem to be preliminary in some spots (like the lack of cover art for the booklets, or the launcher demonstration in Rotor's manual, which shows a scan of a corner of his back-of-the-box art, perforation and everything, plus big white text reading "PRELIMINARY"). Not sure if they'll be edited before they're made live on Service.LEGO.com, but the important thing is that we can get a better look at how the sets are built (the complexity of Drop Ship is ridiculous).

Like that mini-flyer's content. Gives us a bit of background on Hero Factory. While not as complex as BIONICLE, it's still a more fleshed-out universe than many LEGO themes.

The "design your own hero" thing still looks like it'll be totally awesome. I haven't been this excited about an online game in a long time.

And I hope the future sets aren't just the same characters, especially since the naming system has become so much simpler. But then again, perhaps reusing the same heroes would keep this from getting as complicated as BIONICLE. Maybe LEGO will pursue a strategy similar to that most regular action figure brands take, occasionally rereleasing old heroes with new designs, but also releasing new heroes. But then again, that also sounds like how BIONICLE operated for the most part. It really depends on how dedicated LEGO is to keeping the story accessible to outsiders, and how thorough they plan to make the story.

Also, a note to people-- bear in mind that while Tinseltown Toons is the studio label under which TLR was released, the actual art and design aspect of the film was taken care of by CGCG, the same animation studio that did the other three BIONICLE movies. So attributing The Legend Reborn's style to Tinseltown Toons is like attributing the first three movies' styles to Miramax.

Furthermore, given that the same style has appeared in Ghost animations, that means that LEGO's probably at full liberty to use it in things other than the DVD movies they release through Tinseltown Toons. So we can probably expect it to be the standard for the commercials LEGO releases for their non-licensed constraction themes from now on. I certainly don't mind, as the style of the heroes in the commercials we've seen shows that it doesn't always have to be dirty and weathered, but can also be pristine and shiny if the scene demands it.

Hmm. I'm divided on the Bulk and Vapour set...

I think the addition of a slightly modified Bulk was more of an afterthought than a certain addition. I only really want Vapour, and I'll probably still get the standard Bulk whether I get this set or not.

I think I may have discovered the problem with these sets. Those weapon arms are too detailed/contain too many shapes, etc. to be visually appealing, but of course that's my opinion.

Do the colours of the characters symbolise anything? Because if they're not particularly important, we may see more variety in colours. It would be nice to finally get away from the base colours in Bionicle.

Well, in the case of the heroes that are out, Furno is red and has a fire tool, Bulk is silver and has a metal sphere shooter, Stormer is white and has an ice weapon, etc. So yes, the heroes will have colors that go with what powers they have, and so will the villains, just so things make sense for the kids (and anyone else who likes color-coding). But LEGO still has a lot more freedom now that they're not having to match the heroes to specific "tribes". As with BIONICLE, there's no one shade of red that means fire, but you won't suddenly start seeing red sets with water-powered weapons. Stuff will still follow those sorts of common-sense rules.

Don't mind me asking again, but I don't see how Rotor's 'biohazard gas attack' affects the Heroes.

Oh, and that comic is bad. Really. I love Bionicle in that style, but HF just looks pure ugly. :hmpf_bad:

Remember that there are plenty of organics in the HF universe, so it'd make a great distraction, threatening innocents and the like.

(Kind of along the same lines as Meltdown, Heroes aren't the only thing they fight.)

Wait a min, I thought there wasn't gonna be any HF comics? Where did this come from?

I was wondering that as well. And to be honest, I forget where it came from; All I know is it's just a promotional comic; Nothing along the lines of BIONICLE Comics.

Kinda like how the Lego Magazine features comics for stuff like Power Miners/Atlantis/Star Wars.

Off topic: I need to post here more. I lurk too much.

YAY Another DV review! I'm glad so many people are impressed with Hero Factory!

Regarding canisters, I once read a complaint about them being reused, but as I pointed out, the Toa Mata used the same canisters as the RoboRiders before them! So HF isn't treading new ground here

I agree, there were some impulse sets that were a stroke of brilliance, like the Mahri Nui Matoran, but I have to say LEGO is justified in keeping these sets simple-- I still have a strong memory of a birthday where we gave out Throwbots as party favors, and people struggled to no end trying to build them correctly. For fans who are experienced builders, there's always the larger sets, but I don't expect to see what we know as impulse/canister sets to get too complicated in the future.

Although, DV, something you should have checked-- is the front-of-canister image actual size? Usually at least one of the box/canister images will be actual size to give a sense of scale, even if it's not one of the masks or minifigs that are usually emblazoned with an "Actual Size" label.

I've got a long and detailed William Furno review up on the BZP frontpage. Thought you guys might like it, if you haven't already seen it.

Yay! A DV review! Always looking forward to your great pics :classic: Thanks! Furno's on my buy list.
