Captain M Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I've just recieved Thunder. I'm not doing any reviews but if you guys want, I can answer some questions or take some pictures... Is it true he can roll up into a ball like the Bohrok? If so, can you take a picture? Thanks. Quote

VBBN Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I wonder whats NEXt, possible an EVOlution of the building system Quote
80 Dollar Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Oh my...the camera on my new phone sucks so much I can't even tell if it's Thunder or the Kardas dragon on the picture...sorry guys I have no other camera at my disposal, so I'll just answer your questions. Is it true he can roll up into a ball like the Bohrok? If so, can you take a picture? Thanks. He can't...or I'm just too dumb to figure out how. :) I wouldn't mind some snapshots of the claw weapon from variious angles :) The claw weapon really doesn't work the way I thought it would. The grip is really weak, so Thunder can't really pick up a hero and hold him...well maybe he can but only for a very short time. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 bollocks! Well, all of the appeal Thunder had for me just died Quote
80 Dollar Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 bollocks! Well, all of the appeal Thunder had for me just died Maybe I've had a really bad day today, don't give up on him. He looks quite cool with those stickers on and is fun to pose. :) Quote
Bfahome Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Maybe I missed something, but why would you think Thunder could roll into a ball? Quote
VBBN Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 It was in his bio, he rolls into a ball and is super strong like that or something. Quote
Darkness Falls Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Wow. Upon seeing that pic review, Corrodor looks to be the best villain, at least in my eyes... Quote
VBBN Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Eh repetitive weapons does not a good figure make Quote
---Vertea--- Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I will be looking forward to opinions on Rotor. And Corroder and Meltdown are officially at a tie as to awesomeness. Quote
The Crazy One Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) I have a question. When Bionicle came out, what was the reaction like compared to Hero Factory? Edited July 16, 2010 by The crazy one Quote
Aethersprite Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Which weapons do you hate? Meltdown's or Corroder's? Not really clear there. I'm still stumped as to who I should get: Xplode or Meltdown. Unlike regular fans, I go more for the overall aesthetic rather than the parts or build since I gave up MOCing many years back. I'd love to get both, but Rotor wants me. Opinions? Quote
Aanchir Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I have a question. When Bionicle came out, what was the reaction like compared to Hero Factory? I was too young to have a strong online presence at that time, but obviously from word-of-mouth I know that the reactions of AFOLs and even some LEGO employees were very resistant (but then again, some people in LEGO had the same response to the LEGO Space theme when it was first being developed). Nowadays the reaction to Hero Factory is a bit different because most AFOLs perceive it as just BIONICLE with a different name. As for kids, I don't know. I personally saw the BIONICLE ad in a TECHNIC leaflet and just figured "BIONICLE, huh? I'll see how it turns out". The specialized mask pieces which stood out in images gave me a mixed impression-- even then, BIONICLE was a lot less obviously Technic than Roboriders or Throwbots had been, and it was hard to tell exactly what the building process would be like based on those small initial images. It wasn't until getting the Tahu and Turaga Vakama offer in a LEGO Magazine that I became hooked. Quote
The Crazy One Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Yeah, when Bionicle came out I was 10 or 11. I just got them because they looked cool, I was just interested to see how opinions change. Quote

Corroders, I just think they are two goofy looking. I would say Meltdown, Xplode's astheitc is really hollow and gangly. Quote

The Crazy One Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I just bought Rotor and Xpload today. They are really great sets, and Xpload really does grow on you. Quote

Aethersprite Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I started Bionicle with the Bohrok. I own very little sets, because my parents say "They all look the same to me", so I only have a one or two sets from each year. In 2006, my parents decided I was too old for Lego at all, so I don't own any sets from '06 or '07. Then in 2008, I started saving money to get sets I wanted, and I've been getting more and more each year. My first reaction to Bionicle was quite good, I guess. I remember playing with my cousin's Bohrok, begging my parents to get me one, and my elation at getting my first Rahkshi. As for HF, my friends and I really see it more of a Bionicle replacement, so I guess the reaction wasn't as big as it was with Bionicle. That's just me. And I think I'll be getting Meltdown. Quote
VBBN Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Sounds great, will you be up with a review perhaps? You know I will be doing Meltdown and Rotor but lego is slow to ship things. I could have gotten 1-2 day shipping but it would have cost 21 dollars extra. On the plus side i now have 34 VIP points. Quote

Vezon Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 (edited) Today I went to two TRUs that were five to ten minutes away from each other. The first had all of the Hero Factory sets except for Thunder, Meltdown, and Von Nebula, while the second one had everything but Corroder, Von Nebula, and the Furno Bike. Between the two stores I went ahead and bought all four medium sized sets, as well as Rotor. I'm opening one a day, with the first being Xplode. Here are my thoughts on it: As someone that was on the fence with getting Xplode, I have to say that I'm really surprised by how much I like this guy. Pictures do not do this figure justice at all. The color scheme is decent and the legs are fine (if a tad boring). The torso, however, has an interesting build and looks great. The weapons are also good, and the helmet is fantastic. The big thing to talk about would easily be the arms. In photos the odd positions of the spike armor (awesome piece by the way), as well as the use of Rahkshi arms (which I typically hate being used) made the arms look quite bad. In person, the armor doesn't look as bad (though still a bit odd). Instead of having the Rahkshi arms like they are in the official images, I positioned them like this (not my photo). Not only does this position look surprisingly good with Xplode, but due to the way the spike armor is attached, it makes the lower arms rediculously posable. Xplode is one of those figures that oozes a ton of character, so if you're into that sort of thing, you'll definitely like this guy. If you're on the fence like I was, I'd still recommend it. Just try experimenting with the arms, since there are lots different ways they can work, aesthetically. I'll be opening up Thunder tomorrow, so I'll be sure to share my thoughts then.
