Big Cam Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Hey guys, I just noticed today 'newbies' with new names: BertFang, defzo, BigBirdeis, SnuffleupagoiD, etc etc... Oh wait, those are our moderating team members. What up with the Sesame Street names? Every nnow and then the staff decides to change their names for various reasons. The fellows free rewarded with being in on the joke since they are fellows. Happens a few times a year, I like reading all the names. I wish I were a MOD, then I could have a cool Sesame Street name and avatar right now. It would be fun to participate. I would prefer the Muppets though. You're a fellow and you are included, I think your on what cookie monster is on. Quote
Athos Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 OK, this is one time I can actually type "lol" because I actually did. That was so wrong... I [bleep] the spiders on the wall I [bleep] the cobwebs in the hall I [bleep] the candles on the shelf When I'm alone I [bleep] myself Steve Quote

You are the National Geographic voiceover narrator for this episode about "LEGO forum staff in their natural habitat." OK, this is one time I can actually type "lol" because I actually did. Glad you liked it. Quote
Athos Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 You are the National Geographic voiceover narrator for this episode about "LEGO forum staff in their natural habitat." That would make for a funny video. Can anyone do a good Morgan Freeman impersonation? Steve Quote
Erdbeereis Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 That video is so wrong, yet very funny. I love the National Geographic idea as well. Hmm... Anyone want to do it for us? Quote
Big Cam Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 You are the National Geographic voiceover narrator for this episode about "LEGO forum staff in their natural habitat." Haha, I didn't think of it that way but now that I read it, that's exactly what it sounds like. Glad to be of service. I do appreciate shadows going all out and changing his admin logo as well. Quote
Rick Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I do appreciate shadows going all out and changing his admin logo as well. What do you mean? It's a new admin position in charge of keeping track of members' post counts... Quote
sok117 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I admit, that count video was hilarious! I remember when all the MoD's were smurfs. That was pretty funny too. Do the mods always take the persona's of lovable child-hood characters? Quote
CopMike Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Hilarious video, spider web is doable - really ? But what´s this thread really about, I don´t get it ! Quote
LuxorV Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 So, anybody looking for a guide for that 'National Geographic' thing? I admit, that count video was hilarious! I remember when all the MoD's were smurfs. That was pretty funny too. Do the mods always take the persona's of lovable child-hood characters? All I'm going to say in: not always Quote
prateek Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Wow. This thread has turned into a Mod spamfest! I was gonna post that Count video! Quote
The Soup Nazi Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 The count... I want to suck vee *bleep*! Now, if only that was included in the video! Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Could somebody explain to me why name changing is generally frowned upon, and yet you guys to did it celebrate a children's television show revival? I just see it a rather hypercritical, is all. Quote
MetroiD Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Mah na manah Flitwick? With meatballs? Burt burt burt? Ingweeshkooo mishkeebeeskoon? No? Oh well. Suit yourself. Nice sig, by the way! Quote

I just see it a rather hypercritical, is all. Oh come on man. These are temporary. I'm not staff but I've heard this discussion many times and I've even modded forums in the past. For a member to permenantly change their name, it sometimes causes problems, it gets harder to keep track of members if their names are constantly changing and for the sake of sales, gets confusing. Now I'm sure your thinking, that you only want to change it once, well if they let you, then they need to let everyone, then it gets really confusing. The staff are doing this for fun and temporarily. I think your sig is not going to help your case either. Great song, I love the Cake version as well as the muppet version. Quote
blueandwhite Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 This thread isn't officially spam until someone posts the Kermit "Hurt" video. I'm waiting... Quote

I'm just saying I find it hard to remember who I'm talking to (with increasing difficulties in Mafia Games). For me, trying to keep track of every member of staff with a Muppet name is already wearing thin (okay, BertFang is easy to remember, but who the bloody hell is SnuffleupagoiD, or Bluncle Traveling White?). I understand that this whole thing has been meant in jest, but why not just celebrate the return through their sigs? And there is no case here, I'm just trying to understand why everyone is doing this, not leading some sort of anti-puppet revolution. EDIT: Also, how often are these going to occur. Are the names going to change to GoldFang and Shadows are Forever come Shirley Bassey's birthday? If this were a Muppets and Lego forum I'd understand, but... MetroiD Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Not to be rude, but I never watched Seasme Street/Muppets, so I don't understand the reference here. You are starting to sound a bit rude. Who hasn't watched the muppet show - that's downright appaling! Personally, just like you, I have no idea who the bloody hell that SnuffleupagoiD thing everyone's been talking about is! And I sure as hell haven't seen him around. That said, I don't have the slightest idea who that Flitwick persona might be either, so... I understand you're a bit worked up over something. I just don't get what it's really about - everything looks pretty normal to me?! Quote

If a member of three years like me is struggling, how confused are the new members going to be? Quote
Zorro Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 There is still the "Display name history" on every profile . MetroiD SnuffleupagoiD Sep 30 2010 11:39 PM TheOtters MetroiD Jan 18 2010 07:30 PM Asya & Bobby Otters TheOtters Apr 16 2009 12:21 AM And the reason we don't automatically grant new display names is because we have over 10.000 members and we have had some in the past that requested a new name every month. Just waaaay too much work, changing our own names for special occasions however isn't seen as 'work', but rather fun. After all our task is to moderate this forum, not to be the member's servants. Therefore we say: think before you decide on your display name. If a real good reason is given (NOT 'I like this more then my old one'), then probably that request will be forfilled. Quote

I think you are overreacting about this. Plus in mafia games their characters picture should be in their sig, or at least their character name. Quote

Plus in mafia games their characters picture should be in their sig, or at least their character name. Fun, aye? Just let me know when it starts. And how is asking why people suddenly have different user names overreacting? I'm just annoyed at how I now have to remember two sets of names: The real one, and the muppet one, and wondering why there is the need to change. Quote
