ApophisV Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 hey, i made a swoop bike today (as seen in Star Wars - Episode II), only using the parts of the yellow and the green X-Pod... and i didn't use a picture of the original, i only created it from the picture in my head, please don't expect the bike to be very accurate... B) oh, and sorry for low quality, but i have no other choice than my handy.... :( here are the deep links: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ApophisV...e2/swoop2_1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ApophisV...e2/swoop2_2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ApophisV...e2/swoop2_3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ApophisV...e2/swoop2_4.jpg oh, a second swoop bike using some additional parts (battle droids.... :$ ) will be available in my brickshelf-gallery after moderation!!! Jipay Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 really impressive ! I find it's a good idea to create with you have around you. I guess this is the main difference bewteen AFOL's and childs : childs create with what they have, an adult will buy what is missing. Definitly a good job Quote
ApophisV Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 I find it's a good idea to create with you have around you. do you wanna say i'm childish?!? :loul: but its right, its much more fun to build things with a limited amount of parts, you have to think more about what you do... e.g. if you want to build something like a starship, you always must be aware of what kind of parts you use, maybe you can build ONE wing for your ship, but you haven't enough parts for the second.. (this happens to me EVERYTIME... :loul:) that is why making something without having thousands of parts or even having the ability to buy exactly the parts you need is IMO much more difficult and demanding than anything else in building with lego... if you look at my brickshelf gallery, you can see that i build from the parts of new sets always at least one alternative model (in most cases its a pod racer), no matter if it looks junky or not... i'm not doing this because i want to make a model that looks accurate to something (here: to the racer from ep. 1), i only want to test if i'm ABLE to build something like this.. sometimes it is very hard (e.g. try to build a pod racer from 7200, its really possible!!! oh, and ugly!!!), but in most times it works... ;) i really would like to write more about this, but i'm invited to a friend, she wants to dedicate her kitchen in her new appartment!!! :loul: oh, i completly forgot to say: thanks for the kind words, jipay!!! :) Quote
ApophisV Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 uh, somehow the quote doens't fit exactly to my response... :$ Quote
jonfett Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Hey! Great work there ApophisV. The speeder does look quite simaler to Anakins from Tusken Raider set. I love the idea of using only certain parts or sets to create MOCs. As you said, it helps you to use your imagination more as you are limited with the choice of pieces. Off topic a bit. I haven't picked up any of the x-pods yet but I hope to once I find some ^_^ ! I've seen that over at FBTB they have a thread with creations made from the x-pods. Maybe we could do a simaler thing over here?? I will post once I get my hands on some! :D Id like to see what other people can build with them. Jon. Quote
ApophisV Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 if you are interested, you can see some of my creations using my expanded xpods here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=78996 some are without additional parts, and i will return to this "basic" x-pod creations, because i got a second xpod last week!!! DoubleT Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 there is somebody, who wants to tease me the whole time!!! he even said, that shouldn't become a moderator!!!! He he nope, he said if Jipay was sure the you could be that ;) Quote
jonfett Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Hey, I found this neat x-pod creation today on Brickshelf. This is a gunship made from only the yellow pod - http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=735359 - its pretty neat and looks quite good seeing as it was built using limited parts. Jon. Quote
Jipay Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 If doubleT continuie to tease you, Private Message me and I'll supress his admin power ^_^ Quote
Jipay Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 This tiny gunship is really cute ! I definitly like them ! I guess LEGO designers should play more with those xpods, they will learn how to go back to roots Quote
jonfett Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Yeah I think so too. I used to love all the alternative models they created, they had little cartoons in the manual which were great. Imparticular the old x-wing. I guess they don't focus on the extras any more but the sets them selves, of which the quality is dropping in my opinion!! Jon. Quote
ApophisV Posted April 23, 2004 Author Posted April 23, 2004 IMO lego got back much quality with all this new designer sets... when i saw the animal set (4101) i thought: "wow, if i had a child of 5 years, THIS would be the only set i would buy for it!!!" all this other bionicle and jackstone sh** doesn't fit my image of lego... or think at CLIKITS!!! AHHHH!!!!! but the designer sets bring back the old lego idea, building things with bricks... okay, they use slopes, the new click-hinges, but they don't exxagerate it... its okay for me... the important aspect is, that there aren't in a large set only ten big special-molded parts like at the jack stone sets... (okay, they are for little children, but i was able to build a house from legobricks when i was 4yo, so why shouldn't other children be able to do this??!) Quote
Jipay Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 I agree those designer sets are really really god. But I always had sets with minifigs when I was a child. So maybe they have to create a big bucket with minifigs inside :) Quote
jonfett Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 A bucket of flesh toned star wars figs would be great! :D We could then change all the old yellow ones to peach. It probably won't happen as there is something in the lisence which says that no star wars figures can be released as it interferes with the hasbro lisence. But, if it did it would cost ALOT. It would be great for mini fig collectors though! :D Jon. Quote
DoubleT Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I dont think its going to happend, but you never know with Lego ;) Quote
jonfett Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 But I think we CAN rule out any ideas of a star wars mini fig bucket. It will never happen. Jon. Quote
ApophisV Posted April 25, 2004 Author Posted April 25, 2004  please give us a trooper bucket!!! 25 stormies, 25 snowies, 25 scouts and 25 clonies!!!!! but if hasbro owns the action-figure-license, why is lego allowed to offer the technic figures (eg jango, darth vader,...)??! for mee, they seem more similar to hasbros figs than the tiny minifigs...
