SBrown Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I watched a store manager get screamed out in Tysons Corner, Virginia today over this set. The store had been telling people that this set would not go one sale at their store until January 1 (this same Manager). I went in today to buy a couple of other sets but noticed they already had the stand and display up of Diagon Alley. I was irked and asked if they still had stock. The sales rep said no, the manager put the stock out yesterday and they sold out same day. I vocalized that I was upset but peoples attention were drawn to the Store Manager who was on the phone with a customer trying to explain why they did not have sets available after he had told people they would not be available until January 1 (all of us near the register could hear this woman tear into the store manager. She let him have it). All I got was an apology and told to try another store fifty one miles away. Yeah, I don't go across state lines for a toy run. The store had said they follow sales dates from Lego.com and since Diagon Alley was not suppose to be available until Jan 1, they would not sell it before then. What did this do? Sold it beforehand anyway. I came home and just ordered it on the site just a few minutes ago. Im still kinda irked. Whats the point of having a "Available on January 1" stamp on the official site without even the possibility of pre-order while the store just slap the product out anytime they feel like it? I swear Lego's customer service is starting to go down the tube. Quote
Sutelc Remoh Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Grumble. Didn't notice stupid shop at home put it in stock early until after the stupid thing was backordered to the 11th. By the time I got through the checkout process it got bumped back to the 22nd. I was going to gripe about the closest Lego store to me being 2 1/2 hours away, but judging by the previous post I'd probably still miss the first couple of shipments since stores put it out early too. SBrown Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I saw the back order sign on Lego.com for this set. Hopefully mine won't be pushed back since I ordered it before it went to backorder. I'm a bit surprised how popular this set is. I know it's Lego's but still... I wonder if the majority of buyers are collectors who build them for themselves or with their children OR are they e-hawkers who will just pawn it off as double the price online? Overall the set looks good. I do hold high expectations for it. I was disappointed with The Burrow's playability as far as the top floor room spaces were concerned so I hope the buildings of this set offer more of a play experience (my four year old love's playing with Legos... even the one's Daddy puts out for "display only") =P Quote
GRogall Posted January 1, 2011 Author Posted January 1, 2011 Added links to the instructions for the set on page 1! Enjoy! :classic: Quote
10or Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I also ordered it online way before it went on backorder. I hope I do not have to wait till the 22nd for it to ship or else LEGO is gonna get it Quote
SBrown Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I just got notified mine is applied to a backorder. Mine will ship on 1/11/11 I'm really irritated now. >:S Quote
catacombs87 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Well, am on the same backorder now... Got an email first telling me that the ship date's going to be 01/11/11 and now a second email saying it'll be on 01/19/11. Ah well... Quote
TheDoctor Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Well i finally got round to putting my money in the bank and ordered it last tuesday just as the 11th of january backorder was made, but in the heat of the moment i treated myself to express delivery and as yet i havnt had an email saying my shipments been changed to the 22nd so hopefully that express delivery payed off Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Thanks for putting the instructions on Grogall now I can see some of those techniques better. Quote
10or Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 UGH! AHH! Why LEGO why?? I placed my order hours before Diagon Alley was placed on backorder, and you send me a email saying I have to wait till the 19th for it to ship?! You didn't even have pre-orders in the US for this set. You knew that it would be popular seeing as Hogwarts has been on backorder pretty much since it has been released. Not fair!! Quote
Sutelc Remoh Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 It was really stupid of Lego to stock the set on-line before they had enough to meet what they had to know would be a high initial demand. If they didn't have enough ready to go then why release the set now? The idiots should've just pushed it back to February 1st so no one would be pissed about having to wait when it was supposed to be available. Or better yet, they should've started taking pre-orders a couple of months ago so they knew how many they would need to have ready. Quote
clouette Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Yah they should have a preorder system. Mine is on backorder 22nd Jan Quote
gotoAndLego Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I watched a store manager get screamed out in Tysons Corner, Virginia today over this set... People really need to take a step back and get some perspective in their lives. Quote
SBrown Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Around Christmas time and New Years everyone is stressed out. If a store advertises something to be on sale Jan 1, 2011, it should be put on sale that day; not before. I would not scream out a store manager (though I raise my voice in frustration), I just file complaints with Lego. My order got pushed back to 01/19/2011. Fudruckers... Quote
doriansdad Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 We visited our local lego store in Oregon Jan 1st and they did not have this or any other Harry Potter set in stock. They were also missing some star wars lego sets that they were meant to be selling Jan 1st. The manager stated the shipment never came from Lego and apologized. Life goes on. From now on I will make sure to call first. A pre-ordering system sounds like a fantastic idea to solve this problem. Maybe Lego can throw in a pre-order bonus as well (maybe an exclusive minifig). Sounds like this idea would be a win all the way around. Still eagerly anticipating this set :) Quote
10or Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 My LEGO Store has the set and they are holding it for me. So now I am on hold to tell LEGO to cancel Diagon Alley from my order and they have the same hold song on repeat! It's a nightmare and torture! "just imagine..." Quote
fred67 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Oh... what day was it? Wednesday (29th) or Thursday (30th)? I stopped by the LEGO store and got not only Diagon Alley but a handful of series 3 minifigures. I was surprised, as normally the store is a stickler for official dates, but I am guessing the shelves were so empty of other products they needed something they had to fill out them out. Quote
10or Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I am now a proud owner of Diagon Alley! Even got 10% off with the coupon I got with the magazine Quote
TheDoctor Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 whaaaay! just got an email saying its been shipped a whole 7 days early Quote
catacombs87 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 whaaaay! just got an email saying its been shipped a whole 7 days early That's great. All I had was that my order is shipped, i.e the free Keychain, but not Diagon Alley. I found out today that my order has been pushed further until the 22nd of Jan. Quote
SBrown Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I got an update. My order was pushed back to 1-22-11. First there was no backorder for me. Then there was the 11th then the 19th then the 22nd. I called the Annapolis store. They had some in stock and luckily they put one on hold for me. I pick it up tomorrow at 10:00am. Quote
TheDoctor Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 can't belive i missed my delivery today! now i have to wait until monday to receive it Quote

Interestingly (slightly off topic), I ordered a Hogwarts Castle when it said expected ship date was the 19th... after my order, a couple of hours later, the website said 29th (I think that was it). Well... I received it two days ago and the website now says "Available." can't belive i missed my delivery today! now i have to wait until monday to receive it NOOOO... that completely sucks! The delivery people just leave it on my porch... do you live in an apartment or something? If you have the means you might be able to call them and see if you can't pick it up tomorrow. Quote
dragonboy79 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I don't know what happened exactly.... I went to the LEGO store at Anaheim Downtown Disney and expected to buy the pyramid from Pharaoh's Quest. Then I decided I wanted Hogwarts Castle, but there was none. Next thing I noticed, I walked out clutching Diagon Alley (with a free Sensei Wu keychain), giggling like a little kid! Oh yeah, I believe there are 2 sets left--in case anyone wants to get one. Quote
SBrown Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I picked it up from the store, they actually held it for me which is a surprise. The set is beautiful and there are more bags than I expected but nonetheless really exciting. I love Gringotts Bank, simply because of the fact it can close completely. I think the glow-in-the-dark features of Borgin and Burkes is completely over rated; its realy just a few bricks. I think I am rather disappointed in Ollivanders. I dont know why but now that I have it in person, there is something about it that seems off. It doesnt excited me Gringotts or Burks does. As for an earlier question, I'm going to try and cancel my order with lego. There's no need for two diagon alleys, now is there =P Quote
