TheDoctor Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 NOOOO... that completely sucks! The delivery people just leave it on my porch... do you live in an apartment or something? If you have the means you might be able to call them and see if you can't pick it up tomorrow. Well i did phone DHL to rearrange it so after 10 minutes of listening to relaxing hold music i finall got through and they said that the newest delivery time they could give was monday or pay to have it delivered saturday. And i didnt get a note or anything, i just live in an average detatched house to be fair from what i guess its a bigger box than the hogwarts one and has the free keyring with it so theres not really anywhere safe to leave it and i know i would have grumbled even if they had left it outside (my poor baby getting all cold and wet ) plus the nearest collection hub is birmingham and im not willing to travel that far Quote
10or Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I just received Hogwarts yesterday from FedEx and they just left it at the door. The box for Diagon Alley is the exact same size as Hogwarts. Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Ooh! Anyone feel like doing a review? Pretty please? And also - do Fred and George have a doublesided head or something? They're listed as one character on Bricklink. Makes me go "Huh? What?" Quote

Mr Spielbrick Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Cool! Thanks for the info. Looks like a great set, but the price tag is a little high for me. Especially since 2011 looks to be a very good year for Lego sets. Quote
TheDoctor Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I just received Hogwarts yesterday from FedEx and they just left it at the door. The box for Diagon Alley is the exact same size as Hogwarts. Well i always questioned lego about the use of oversized boxes, i mean if diagon alley is near enough double the amount of bricks (or somwhere in that region) why not just make the boxes smaller, i think its ever since they made the boxes less thick Quote
10or Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Fred and George have the same head. It is double sided, one side is a closed mouth grin and the other side is an open mouthed grin. Quote
MrLestrange Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Can we have pictures of that double faces? Quote
SuperChris Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Hey guys, I've just finished building Diagon Alley, and have some pictures for you all! I don't think I'm good enough to do a full review of a huge set like this, but the pictures will give you a good idea of the set. Spoiler warning, THIS SET IS AWESOME. I've put them as links, because they are in quite a high resolution and I know some people are still on dial up. The Box Art Parts in the Bags Bag 1 Parts Bag 3 Parts Olivander's Wand Shop Borgin and Burkes Gringotts Mini-figures (close up) Full overview of the set (front) Full overview of the set (behind) Hope those are helpful for anyone who wanted to see more! You can read my mini-review on my blog, here is the link for that! Thanks! Quote

Matn Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Marakoeschtra over at Lowlug (Dutch) wrote an excellent review of this lovely set. The pictures are really nice and clear, I love the figures. Ollivander, Fred/George look awesome. It would have been even more awesome if the eyes of the goblins were black, but perhaps I'll buy a few more goblins and paint it black. I can't wait to get this set, but it isn't out yet in the Belgium shops who usually sell exclusive sets. Quote
KristofBD Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Just bought this set in Cologne - they were flying from the shelves over there. I'm writing an English review right now. It will take some more time though (and my pictures are not as bright as in the other Dutch review - but I have more pictures ). Quote
Sutelc Remoh Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Got an e-mail last night that mine shipped after originally being told I was backordered through the 22nd! Can't wait for the weekend! Quote
Ogre Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Well i did phone DHL to rearrange it so after 10 minutes of listening to relaxing hold music i finall got through and they said that the newest delivery time they could give was monday or pay to have it delivered saturday. I had two different orders ship to me via DHL and BOTH were 'unable to deliver', yet, for BOTH orders, I was home ALL DAY waiting for my doorbell to ring, or for someone to knock at the door, sitting no more than ten feet away from my front door the whole time (building LEGO at my kitchen table, actually). Both times, I found a note in my mailbox when I went to get my mail. So, for both orders, I ended up having to travel to the depot to get them. Thankfully, LEGO doesn't use DHL to deliver to this neck of the woods anymore. Quote
Joebot Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 It would have been even more awesome if the eyes of the goblins were black, but perhaps I'll buy a few more goblins and paint it black. I had that exact same thought. Given the fancy new paint job that mini-figs have been getting recently (Jar Jar, the ewoks, etc.), I was expecting the goblins to be painted up a bit. Not a huge deal in an otherwise fantastic set, but still kind of disappointing. Quote
RubeusHagrid Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I don't know if it was DHL or other but they just left it outside my door on Saturday Afternoon in the rain. I emailed S@H to complain. No response yet. It's (the box) smaller than I thought it would be. Quote
Shroffy123 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Just a heads up, Diagon Alley is no longer backordered on Lego.com. I ordered mine yesterday and it shipped today. I also got a free Sensi Wu chain with my order. Quote
MrLestrange Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I would like to see the stikers of this set. Quote

The Yellow Brick Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Here is a video of it being built on YouTube Quote
SiriusBlack Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Great! My favorite shop in this set is Ollivander's wand shop, because of the exterior. Gringott's bank has some nice Roman-style pillars as well. I just noticed that the Vanishing Cabinet in Borgin and Burkes is a little different from the Hogwarts version. Well done TLC! - SiriusBlack Quote
RubeusHagrid Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 My LEGO Store has the set and they are holding it for me. So now I am on hold to tell LEGO to cancel Diagon Alley from my order and they have the same hold song on repeat! It's a nightmare and torture! "just imagine..." Sorry this is very OT, but does anyone know where I can download that song? It's really bugging me... Quote
Algernon Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Finally picking this set up today; the 2010-2011 HP sets are all very good, but I think set is the most complete since it's one of the few sets to include Harry, Ron, AND Hermione (Ron seems to be hard to find for some reason) and it really has the most HP atmosphere. I just love the look of Olivanders - I remember somebody saying that it was a little odd, but frankly I don't see that at all. I think its gorgeous. Awesome minifig selection, too! I might be doing my own review once I pick it up, even though there are several already. Quote
Brickmamba Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 liking the look of the quirky architecture and the color variation between the buildings and the amount of figs you included is jaw dropping looking at picking up this set when i am in hk in a few months time, can't wait Quote
