DLuders Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 The website Holonomicwheels.com offers Lego-compatible "Holonomic" omniwheels for your robot: "Holonomic wheels are wheels with 2 degrees of freedom. They are also known as omni-directional drive wheels or omni-wheels for short, sometimes written as omniwheel. We had invented a new holonomic wheel and it is LEGO Mindstorm RCX and NXT compatible. These wheels were used in major competitions like NJRC National Junior Robotic Competition and WRO World Robot Olympiad and won championship and runner-up prizes respectively. Many other users around the world had used these omnidirectional wheels in Robocup and in all sorts of robotics competitions. Our product is made from ABS plastic that is similar to the ABS plastic used by LEGO." Availability: http://holonomicwheel.com/template.jsp?p=my/Purchase.html . Here are two videos from the collection on their Video Clips Page: Quote
Siegfried Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Cool, but its not Lego. Yeah I agree. I'm reluctant to even buy custom weapons from BrickArms and the like! But to me this is a too far; it goes beyond an accessory and becomes a major feature, like those metal axels and beams. If I was using this I'd be questioning why I was using LEGO at all and I wouldn't see it as a LEGO MOC either. It's rather lame that they say "Our product is made from ABS plastic that is similar to the ABS plastic used by LEGO." So is my Coffee Machine. Quote

Especially considering that ABS isn't the only type of plastic used for LEGO and hasn't been for years. The ABS = LEGO has been dead for ages Loooks cool though - perhaps TLG will produce something like this for the NXT's at some point. Quote
