goldfish Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hi, Only just joined this site. Done a couple of MOCs. One is a standard Castle which I'll upload at some point, the second was this attempt at a Dwarven Mine, inspired by the Lord of The Rings and the Mines of Moria. Mainly built these (especially the Castle) for my daughter to play with, but err yes I like doing it. lol Plenty of room for improvement, so appreciate any feedback on building techniques etc. rich Quote
Eskallon Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Looks great so far, is this a work in progress (WIP) or the final thing? I think that you should make those columns round though, or at the base and the top make it wider a little which gives it that fixed feeling. As well as this add some more remains of dwarfness, I am sure that when they are drived out of the mine all is tidy but a single corpse. Try adding in some broken tiles and maybe a bit of debris and leave dents in the column which will show that a battle once took place. Apart from the above well done and I can't wait to see what you have for us in the future. Quote
Masked Builder Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 That's amazing! Looks pretty good so far the only thing I would do would to make the columns wider at the base like Eskallon said. Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I agree with Eskallon. It's quite a big empty space now, so a few broken pieces of rock, some weapons and other details may look good to fill things up. What I like about this is that it hase an 'over ground level'-part as well and the big tiled floor is also nice. In the movie I liked the light a lot, from all the torches, which gives it a very mysterious atmosphere. But I guess that's hard to do with Lego But some torches are possible. Good job so far, keep it up! Quote

Thanks guys, I agree, I think it needs a bit of rubble, I might open up a wall on the side and perhaps the back, and also add some more debris, I was thinking of adding in some structure to the top of the columns, but I might change this to the bottom. I don't currently have the pieces for circular columns, so this might be a good compromise. I had also added below my first moc that I did before this. It's a basic Castle, but I do prefer it to the big packaged sets. It's far sturdier, and my young daughter loves it! Quote
Eskallon Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Looks good from what I see, is it possible you can give us a link to more pictures of the two MOC's Quote

I have these of the side and back of the castle. The inside is still a work in progress and quite basic. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 That's a good basic castle MOC goldfish! I like how its is distinctively different from official lego castles but it still has an original flavor into it. The interiors of the Dwarven Mine are great, with all those tall columns and spacious tiled floor. Quote
Artanis I Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 They both look like fun settings for play! Did you run out of tiles for the Dwarf hall? The tall ceiling is an excellent inclusion, and I also love the way there's a level above and below to make it look truly underground. Quote
