Blakbird Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Blakbird, are you working with Paul on Murcielago instructions? I have no comment on that matter. Quote
DLuders Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 ...and further more how about the copyright on the proposed models? Is a builder going to loose it to TLC? From the Lego Cuusoo "Terms of Use" webpage, Article 18 discusses "Property and Ownership Righs": "All property rights to information and Content included in the Services, including anything sent (transmitted) by any User, belong to the Company." There is other (legal) language in that Article, but basically anything submitted to Lego Cuusoo "belongs to the Company." Since Zblj had already posted the Lego Digital Designer (LDD) .lxf file on Eurobricks months ago, I believe he wanted to share it with the entire world. Out of courtesy, AFOLs should know that he is the original designer. If some AFOLs are hesitant about submitting their MOCs, how about some designs for CUSTOM TECHNIC PARTS? As the saying goes, "Ask and thou shall receive." Yes, 1000 wishes is a lot but IF YOU DON'T TRY, you'll never get it. Zblj and I worked on submitting his MOC after (perhaps) an hour of work. I challenge others to submit their original Technic wishes too. Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 If a proposed model on Lego Cuusoo get its 1,000 wishes it will get produced and the "wish-ees" become customers of this set. That's what you signed for. So we all should be very carefull about that. Paying 17.000Yen for one model (ZBLJ's car) isn't bad and would it would be very nice to actually get this model. Yet, entering en suporting more sets could become very costly, not to mention that the more choises there are, the less chances of actually getting it to 1,000 wishes... Anyway: let's see how it goes from here! Quote
DLuders Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) There are distinctions between a "pledge of support" WISH for SUPPORTING a model, CREATING a new wish (like I did for Zblj's LYNX), and a "reservation" (putting a model in your Shopping Cart). Everyone is limited to CREATING a maximum of 10 original wishes (I've used up one of mine on Zblj's MOC), but is NOT LIMITED in their "Pledges of Support" (I've supported Zblj's MOC and the 5571 reissue so far). From the Lego Cuusoo FAQ webpage: Q. How many wishes can I create? A. Right now the limit is set at 10 wishes, because we want each user to really think about what they wish for. We are still experimenting with this number, so it may change in the future. Support Pledges Q. What is a pledge of support? A. When you add a wish to your Wish List, you are pledging your support to that wish, meaning you would like LEGO® to produce it into official LEGO® products. When a Wish gathers 1000 pledges of support, it can become an official LEGO® product! Q. How many times can I add wishes to my Wish List to pledge my support? A. Obviously, you can only add one individual wish to your Wish List once. However, you can add as many different wishes as you like to your Wish List. Q. How many supporters does my Wish need to get produced? A. You need 1000 supporters for a wish to get produced. Reservation Q. What is a "Reservation"? A. When a Wish has gathered 1000 supporters and LEGO® agrees to produce it, the process of "Reservation" begins. This is similar to putting that Wish into your "Shopping Cart", only difference is, you cannot check out yet. Once LEGO® has successfully manufactured it, then you can turn your reservation into a purchase. Q. What is the difference between "Reservation" and "Pledge of Support"? A. At the "support gathering" stage, a Wish usually goes through some changes based on its supporters suggestions. Also, LEGO® has to examine its legal and technical feasibility for production. When a Wish enters the "Reservation" stage, it has already passed through all the changes and examinations, so it is purely gathering enough orders for LEGO® to start manufacturing and selling. Q. Is a reservation a legal obligation for purchase? A. Although a reservation means an order or an intention of purchase, you are not legally obligated to buy the product once it is produced. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SO, there should be absolutely no reason why MANY AFOLs on this forum (and others) should not make a "Pledge of Support" for Zblj's LYNX. Here is the link for transferring this Lego Cuusoo candidate to LUGpol, SeTechnic, TechnicBRICKS, etc., etc.: http://www.cuusoo.com/LEGO/user/149541/0001/ (right click and copy the "Properties" to see the entire URL address since it is getting cropped). According to this CBS News story, there are 40,000 AFOLs in the world and they account for 5% of all Lego sales. What about the other 95% ? If Zblj's LYNX is brought out as an official set, TLG could EASILY sell THOUSANDS of them via Shop.Lego.com, Toys-R-Us, etc. Edited October 5, 2010 by DLuders Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) I cant express how happy I am for this generous action taken by Dluders and all the supporters. Who knows, with enough support there might be a relase of such set! Edited October 5, 2010 by Zblj Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) I added the Lynx in my Wishes folder . Edit: the #5571 too. Edited October 5, 2010 by Plastic Nurak Quote
DLuders Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) I asked "Sariel" (Paul Kmiec) what he thought of AFOLs' proposals for one of his MOCs to be made into an official Lego set. Here's what he said in reply: "I like the idea, but I wonder which MOC would be suitable in terms of price/fun factor. I'm afraid that most of my MOCs would be extremely costly to produce. There is a number of relatively simple MOCs I've made, but I have no idea whether people would consider these worth paying for or not. When building a MOC, I usually focus on functionality & aesthetics and ignore everything else. Whether such MOC can be sold at a reasonable price and easily built from instruction has rarely been my concern. Also, it would be difficult to estimate the parts costs as only a few of my MOCs actually have any parts list. Thank you for the suggestion, I feel honored :) BR, Paul" It's encouraging that Sariel would support Lego Cuusoo wishes/ pledges of support for his MOCs. So, which set(s) would Technic AFOLs like to support? Sariel made Building Instructions already for his Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, and is wanting to make instructions for his Land Rover. He's made 12 Lego TANKS, but if TLG won't ever make a tank set (because "War is not fun"), which other Sariel MOC would meet the criteria outlined in Sariel's reply above? All of his MOCs appear on his Lego Technic website http://sariel.pl/ . Edited October 7, 2010 by DLuders Quote
DLuders Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I also asked "Crowkillers" (Paul Boratko) about the Lego Cuusoo concept, and here's what he wrote to me: "Hello David. Thanks for the Kind words about my work. I have already offered a few of my designs to Lego for Free (I felt that just knowing that something that I designed could be purchased in a store would be compensation enough for me) and sadly enough, they turned them down. I have received both personal and impersonal responses from them. Basically they told me that it was impossible due to legal issues over who actually designed the models and copyrights. I told them that i would sign any legal documents giving them full rights to my Gallardo or Murcielago models and they basically responded back by saying "Sorry we just don't operate that way" and "We already have team of designers in Denmark that are probably working on designs very similar to yours". My models get many mixed comments as people either love them or hate them. For some strange reason my models turn off a large portion of Lego builders because I choose to build almost entirely studless, so my stuff probably wouldn't be a good choice for whatever it is that you were looking to do. I am still trying to design something that will hopefully satisfy everyone. But if you want to pick something out and nominate it, I am in full support of your decision. In fact, if you have anyone else's that needs attention, I will gladly post links on my site for them. It only gets about 150 to 200 hits a day, but it's better than Nothing. I am good friends with Nathanael Kuipers and would love to see his Concept Car up there as well. I already own a copy of it, but I would gladly go out and buy another set or two. One other issue at hand is the age of some parts that are no longer in production. Some models that he and I use contain a few parts that are no longer in production and the designs may need to be altered and updated. Thanks! Keep in Touch -Paul Boratko" Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) One other issue at hand is the age of some parts that are no longer in production. TLG had chosen to take a bad new differential, as an example among others, so now, because of it, some of your complex mechanisms are unsuitable in present days . PS I'd like to purchase Sariel's Jeep ! Edited October 7, 2010 by Plastic Nurak Quote
mahjqa Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 The older style differential with 16z and 24z gear is as of yet still available to Lego's technic designers. Quote
Meatman Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Personally I think Paul is crazy. His Murcielago or Gallardo Models would be hot items on that site. The problem with his Gallardo is that he has already sold many kits himself and God knows how many people have downloaded instructions for it. Plus the Murcielago has some extra features with suspension and a working steering wheel. Quote
DLuders Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 "Sariel" (Paul Kmiec) and I have been corresponding a bit. I proposed that his HotRed MOC be considered for possible Lego Cuusoo nomination. It is not a "tank" (which TLG will never sell as a set), it is not "brand-specific" (like the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Land Rover are), and it is not too complex/expensive to make. He e-mailed me and said, "If I understand things correctly, it is not required to have a complete instruction at the moment of submitting a MOC to the Lego Cuusoo - if so, we can simply go ahead and submit this MOC and if it gets enough votes for Cuusoo to consider it, I will re-built it and proceed to produce a complete instruction. It should be a relatively fast and easy solution, as this is a relatively simple MOC, and it eliminated the problem of guessing how certain elements were built, as I should remember it well enough. BR, Paul" Would the Eurobricks Technic AFOL community support such a nomination? Sariel wrote that his HotRed is "Another take on the subjects of HotRods. Features full independent suspension, V14 piston engine, functional steering wheel and a 4-speed manual gearbox." Datasheet: Completion date: 01/03/2008 Power: electric (Power Functions) Dimensions: length 52 studs / width 28 studs / height 19 studs Weight: 1.34 kg Suspension: full independent Motors: 1 x PF XL, 1 x PF Medium. Crtlego Posted October 9, 2010 Author Posted October 9, 2010 I was thinking over the Lego Cuusoo ideas that everybody came up with and I look the idea of seeing Industrial Designer's super car or SUV, or Crowkiller's lamborghini, or Sariel's Hot Rod, or Zblj's Lynx, but I was also thinking that we could create something new, something that if Lego were to build would greatly enhance the Technic series. I'm not trying to say that any of these models mentioned wouldn't do that (I actually love these creations very much and I would purchase them if there wasn't a deep gap in my wallet and I actually had the time to use them) but when I think of putting something on the market I think that we should start from scratch and build something spectacular yet possible for Lego to reproduce efficiently. If we were to use that Bugatti Veyron by Sheepo that would be awesome to have but it has virtually 0% chance of being built by Lego even if we were able to get to 1000 votes. But that's just my two cents. Quote
TechnicJuan Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I also think another key is that the Lego model in question more than likely has to follow the Lego rules. Quote
BasOne Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Hate to bump an old topic but come on people, Zblj's Lynx still only has 26 27 votes. Get over to https://www.cuusoo.com/LEGO/user/149541/0001/ and vote (wish) Quote
Rijkvv Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 How about Han Crielaard's MOC's? http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/ While the Prinoth Leitwolf might be too expensive, I think the trucks, most of all the dump truck, could be possible as an official set. Quote
DLuders Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) *BUMP* On TechnicBRICKS, Conchas posted an article about "Lego Cuusoo International Becomes Beta". Instead of it being a Japanese-only website, this Beta Lego Cuusoo website is now international. The question is, can the members of this Lego TECHNIC forum agree on a model that could garner the required 10,000 votes? Are there any Technic builders who would like to offer up their model as a "trial balloon"? Zblj was willing.... Edited July 14, 2011 by DLuders Quote

GuiliuG Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) It's a great creation but I think that it has too much parts :) Smaller creations will be easier to purchase for everybody ! Edited July 14, 2011 by GuiliuG Quote
efferman Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 yeah it would be very expensive a cheaper posibility would be Mahjqa's Lego Technic Stilzkin Indrik Arctic Vehicle Quote
P4trickvH Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I also found out about this site today and signed up for the BETA. I hope to see some great MOC's being produced by lego in the future because of this project. Quote
DLuders Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 (edited) As Conchas pointed out, there is additional information about the Lego Cuusoo program in this BrickJournal article by Joe Meno. The Cuusoo "Invitation Code" to join the Beta Test waiting list is "Brick Journal". Edited July 15, 2011 by DLuders Quote
garson Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I think the best and most possible creation to get the green light from lego would be one of Jurgens technic cars. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44299 no only does it not make extravagant use of parts (the count is somewhere around 770) it is also fully remote control which will do well with all sectors of lego fans it is not some behemoth axle twisting trial truck and does not model a real vehicle so there should be no legal issues therefore i think this is the set we should vote for (if there is some problem with the use of the old discontinued rc buggy motors he made a pf motor version as well, gotta find that link ) Quote
