The Thoughts of the (adjective) Norro:

...in under a word per brick...

For some reason this set was released later than the other Royal Knight sets in my area. As a result I looked forward to it eagerly (since I had so enjoyed the other sets) and perhaps spoiled the set with too high of expectations... The figs are great and so is the concept but the carriage only looks good from certain angles and could use a few more pieces to 'bulk' it up. Perhaps the bounty of figs had made it hard to keep the set in its target price range, as it is it came out at an odd price point. One other notable is the inclusion of a cloth flag in a smaller set.

Guest Minifig Comments:

There I am being knighted! Who the man, err knight?! The discomfort of having my legs put on backwards was worth it. The only downside is that once I get back up you won't be able to tell me apart from the other soldiers in the set... I suppose that's what makes us an 'army builder'. It is also nice to be included in such a unique box scene. I'll be a legend...

It's So Great I Must Have It Now:

-On Bricklink

-Or some non-lego specific site no one has ever heard of...

comments welcome as always...

God Bless You,

Nathan

Not the best set ever. Another king we don't need and an okay vehicle. I would have liked to see a princess or queen and the third soldier on a horse with full plated armor. Sort of an escort thing. Definitely not worth the price as is and the blue color seems off. With a girl and knight figure I would say it is a good price and valuable edition to any castle collection.

Perhaps one day LEGO will return to such simple designs but with more variety.

Another good review Norro.

Another king we don't need

Am I the only one who likes this torso as a sort of elite knight/courtier? Anyone else use it that way? I quite like it as an elite guard.

It is actually a good torso for that but it requires the purchase of extra parts. A good set should never requires extra parts that are not included.

Regardless of how you use that torso it is my favorite of this line.

The Carrage could do with a bit of work, But i'd be happy to have that as a set

That is actually a great general point! Why didn't I think of that?!

God Bless,

btw welcome Jeorge! Esp. to Castle and Pirates

Great review!

I'd love to have a set like that. I really don't mind the colors, but I do mind the price. The figs are great, kings only bother me if they're completely useless. And he's not bad, just ditch the crown.

There's a surplus of shields, a nice flag, a goblet, 2 horses, and a chest. I think it's a good set.

8 out of ten bricks.

I should also mention the obscure bit of castle trivia, this is the only set I know of to have a shield displayed on a lance in place of a flag... it looks quite good from some angles, and rather poor from others.

Nathan

Mr Norro, I was wondering if you own any of these sets you're reviewing and have them built? It would be good to have pictures of different views of them because I'm not really liking what I see in the King's Carriage picture... Maybe it would look better from alternative angles, but in the picture the carriage appears to suffer from "mid 90s insubstantial set design".

I own all the sets I'm reviewing (to begin with) but don't have time to rebuild them (I'm more of a MOCer ;-) ). Your assesment is correct, although I think this set may have been great had it been done in 6 wide... Perhaps I'll try one someday but it isn't really my normal style.

This is a nice set. Im not too fond of all the blue on the cart and the actual peices used, but the minifigs are great and has alot of shields, with a king and soldiers, and a Royal Knights flag. Only a Royal Knight collector like me of the age of 15 would dream of having a set like this, no matter if it's even the worse of them all!

Great set - great minifigs, great peices/accesories, great horses, shields and the flag etc.

Good job lego, 9/10!!

Nice review!

I like this set ok. It has a great amount of minifigs for it's price, and some useful pieces, but I don't like the design much. The idea is nice, but I think it looks too blocky and thrown together. I also don't like the king much, but he's not that bad. As Norro showed, his torso can be useful.

Over all I'd probably give this a 5 or 6/10.

Thanks. BTW your summary was nice and succinct without leaving anything out! I should lear from you!

It appears I couldn't help myself when I added an image of the set in the first post... I thought it was better than having it as an attachment...

I'm wondering what's so landmark about the concept though... Cinderella had a carriage that began life as pumpkin. Now hows that for a concept?

How do you do that?

It was the last attempt of lego to go non-military in a castle set, and also the largest civilian vehicle I can remember (Maiden's cart is the only other one I can think of and that wasn't available world-wide...)

Thank you once again for the nice review Norro! I love this set, hadn't seend it before hand but it truley looks wonderful. I have always loved the (Lion?) knights. The white with blues and reds looks just fantastic, its really what I love of the set... I wish I had lived in the days of the castle. For my collection would be that much greater, and have cost a LOT less. Well thanks for showing us a set, that I had never seen before.

Take care,

William

So why exactly does one of the knights have his legs backwards? Are they supposed to be broken or something?

How can it be a civilian vehicle if its called "King's Carriage", comes with a king mini-figure and 3 royal guard mini-figures? None of those are civilians are they?

He is kneeling (or that is how I always interpreted it...

It's non-military (small escort for dignitary) suppose it depends on your point of view. As a deciding factor I would have to cite the absence of a catapult X-D ...

I interperated it as the king being a monarch and the leader of the army, therefore it is impossible that he is a civilian!

So you're not a believer in civilian goverment then X-D ?

You're asking the leader of the mighty LEGO Imperial Armada - so what do you think the answer is going to be?

Wikiedpia's
defnition of "civilian"
is:

In times of armed conflict a civilian is any person who is not a combatant. The term may also be used to identify people who are not members of a particular profession or occupation, particularly those who do not belong to an emergency service.

The term is used in this context by models and in the performing arts, recently becoming more widely used as a result of the New York Theater Company production, "The Civilians"

.

By this definition the king wouldn't be a civilian if he lead his army into battle, but he just sat on his fat butt and let someone else lead the army then he would be civilian. Is that sounding right?

Perfectly! ;-) I always pictured him just sitting there...

Great review, Nathan! I don't have this set, but have always been intrigued by it. As you pointed out, the kneeling soldier on the box was a new concept at the time. I hadn't noticed shield on the lance though...interesting. Oddly enough, it is also part of a rather small group of 2+ horsepower wagons. As far as I know, besides this set, only 6055 and 6056 have more than one horse pulling the wagon.

Thanks! I'm a 'few' sets behind CC but working my way through the 'classics' over here...
