Hi

Welcome to the forum. Before going on to your question, please be aware that this is an AFOL forum (Adult Fan of Lego), which means that we expect a certain level of writing, e.g. capitalize sentences, one question mark is enough, writing out words (ty = thank you) etc. So please put a bit more effort in to this before posting, OK?

Now, regarding your question, the author of the decompile code decided to remove it, since it was in violation of the TLG EULA (End User License Agreement). So at the moment there is no way to un-pack the assets.lif (I guess he didn't want the mean TLG lawyers breathing down his neck)

Well im from Brasil and my english is not 100%, so excuse me my "level of writing"... anyways, ty for the awnser, it did not help lol but

i find strange that no one can crack/edit inside or wtv you call it, i used to make models on 3dmax for Company of Heroes, LotR:BFME2, i used to made models, UV Mapping, texturizing and all and it was supposed to be easier, i mean why Lego make it hard to put more decals?

i just wanna make my own decals on photoshop (like supermen symbol) to put on parts that already have Decorations pre-sets, like the Mini-Figure Torso...

I would apreciate if someone could point me some tutorial or something to extract/compile/uncopmpile or do something to put my decals..

I wander if its just on version 4.0 or the older versions are packed on .lif format too?

Thank You all and Merry Christmas

How to do ?

LDD is closed and Lego Universe in LDD is activated

use 7-zip to unzip the files http://www.7-zip.org/

Get the file db.7z

...

Rename/delete the file db.lif

Get the file Definitions.7z

...

The real question are...

- where ich get the db.7z and Definitions.7z ?

- is this tutorial for LDD 4.0 real?

- Can i use textures larger then 128x128? (for streetplates for example?)

Merry Christmas you too :classic:

Yes, but game engine has specific editors created so that it is possible to buy use the engine to create games using that.

That's not true for LDD, that is a "close" project.

However, if you read some topic above, you can find some informations on how LDD, LDD3 al least, works.

Yes, but capitalization, slang and use of chat abbreviations have no language! So I think Superkalle ask you a little effort about that. Abbreviations are often difficult to understand for international users (and "old man" users too, not uncommon on this forum), for example I didn't know about "ty".

PS: your engllish seems to be much better than mine!

- db.lif you can find in LDD Profile directory is an archive containing files and directories.

Shiroitenshi extracted these files and folders, modified that and packed that in db.7z and Definitions.7z, that was available on the forum for a while, until the staff decided that this procedure violated the EULA related to LDD, so files was removed.

- No, It was made for LDD 3.1 and never updated.

- I don't know, but according to Shiroitenshi, decals have to be 128x128 pixel.

How to do ?

LDD is closed and Lego Universe in LDD is activated

use 7-zip to unzip the files http://www.7-zip.org/

Get the file db.7z

Unzip the db.7z in the same directory as preference.ini

For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\

For Windows XP here: C:\Documents And Settings\UserName\ApplicationData\Lego Company\Lego Digital Designer\

Rename/delete the file db.lif

Get the file Definitions.7z

Unzip the Definitions.7z in the Assets directory

For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets

For Windows XP here: C:\Program Files\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets

It's done, you can start LDD ! (^_^)V

Now you have access to more than 200 additional parts coming from Lego Universe.

And you can customize LDD.

How to add new Custom Decals ?

Be careful, a lot of parts don't have UV mapping (texture coordinate), then it's not possible to add custom decals.

I think it is better to be confined to parts already defined in the file DecorationMapping.xml.

And it is best to follow the surfaces accepting decals.

First, close LDD.

Make your decal with transparent color in background, then resize it to 128*128 (unlock Picture's aspect ratio)

Copy it in the Decorations directory and give it a filename with 5 digits (mine start at 90000.png)

Get the part number for the part you want to add a custom decal.

Edit the file DecorationMapping.xml in the Definition directory, add a new line at the end of file

Example: use 90001.png with part 3814 (minifig's torso) on the surface 1

<Mapping decorationID="90001" designID="3814" surfaceID="1"/>

You can start LDD.

if you make a mistake by not complying with the instructions, LDD could crash.

How to remove my files ?

Close LDD, then delete the directory db

For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\

For Windows XP here: C:\Documents And Settings\UserName\ApplicationData\Lego Company\Lego Digital Designer\

Delete the directory Definitions

For Windows 7 and Vista it can be found here C:\Program Files (x86)\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets

For Windows XP here: C:\Program Files\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Assets

Start LDD.

You don't have to reconstruct the lif files, LDD use directories with the same name if it find them.

db.lif contains :

db

|---Assemblies

| xml files (Parts's Assemblies, if a part is referenced here, you can't use this part alone)

|---Decorations

| png files (all the decals available in LDD, only size 128*128 for decals, only filename with numbers)

|---Primitives

| xml files (description of each parts, have sub part, connection information like axel rail ...)

|

|--- lod0

g files (contains 3d structure, vertexes, faces, [uv mapping], face normals)

Definitions.lif contains :

Definitions

|---DecorationMapping.xml

| Relation between parts, decals and sub part

|---MaterialSelector.xml

colors palette in LDD

Does anyone have any idea how to do this on Mac OS X? I would greatly appreciate it.

The guide worked for LDD3, don't know if it works for LDD4.

Anyway, TLG asked us to avoid this kind of practice. I'm surprised the text is already here, I'll speak about that with superkalle.

AAAAARGH!!!! When LDD Team add LU Model + Decorations (Textures) to LDD?

:( I think... they will never add them

What do you mean with "add LU mode"?

LDD support LU mode and the new Extended Mode already.

About decorations, it is possible to discover some hidden decorations (look at LDD reference topic) or apply any decortion to any brick that has a "decorable" face (look here).

Wertyboy, three problems here:

1) bumping and old topic.

2) Using capitals is very rude as it signals shouting

2) Your langauage suggest you are too young to be at Eurobricks, where we have an 18 year age limit. I'll PM you about this.

Now about the shiroitenshi post, I don't know if that will still work, and how relevant it is for LDD.

I mean some Factions Models, and Nexus Force logo on torso

About the decorations you said, i downloaded them for a long time ago

1. I thought that topic useful

2. Sorry i really need it

3. Yes, im. ok if im too young to be at this forum..... must i leave?!!!

P.S: How to add more textures to model btw? :(

I have made a transparent png from a decal in the SPACE Decals index (thx Lamanda2)

But i can extract decals from Lego Universe

How did you decompile the .lif exactly? Interested. However, I guess it violates the EULA?

We've kind of made a decision to stay out of those type of discussions here in the forum. Firstly, because we then move into a grey zone about what is OK and what is not from a legal perspective. Secondly, because there are a lot of kids reading this forum, and if this spreads it won't be long before TLG gets support calls to their Help Desk from kids who have messed up their LDD installations. And then TLG will surely wake up. Maybe a bit exaggerated, but you get the idea. Thirdly because there has been debate before about the usefulness of these kind of customizations. Whenever you make a file with custom items, there is no easy way to share them with others since you need to share the underlying custom elements. And finaly because adding more bricks to LDD is really complicated. Besides the geometries you need to add collision volumes and connectivity points. It's a lot more then for example in Ldraw.
