This Lego robot has been a idea in my head for quite a while now and this year I decided to try and build it for the Great Western Lego Show (http://www.greatwesternlegoshow.com) . I wanted to make a large but functional robot which I could develop further over the years. Sadly I did run out of time to make it pretty for the show but it does fully work. Its just under 4 foot tall!

Current features are:

It moves, pretty quick actually for something that ways around 20-25kg

The main beam (body) rotates around.

The main beam rises using pneumatics. It takes over 30psi to move this heavy part!

The head contains a Lego webcam which can rise and sink.

The arms can rise outwards using pneumatics.

Each arm is connected to a working cannon which can independently rotate around and up and down. These are controlled by Hitechnic Accelerometers which are in 2 controllers that the user holds. When the user tilts his hands (up, down and side to side), each cannon will move to mimic the users move.

The robot currently uses:

4 NXT's with rechargeable battery packs

5 NXT motors

2 HiTechnic Accelerometers

1 HiTechnic IRLink

4 Power Functions receivers

4 Power Functions XL motors

5 Power Functions M motors

3 Power Functions Rechargeable battery packs

1 RC motor (for pneumatic pump)

1 Lego webcam

1 Linear actuator

9 Pneumatic rams

A shed load of cables (Mindsensor custom cables, PF converter cables, NXT converter cables and so on)

Being in black its hard to photo. I will be making some videos (and better pictures) of it moving about at some point soon!

Whoa, that 'bot is humongous! The Zamor sphere shooters on each "hand" will be impressive to see on your upcoming videos! :oh: Does your robot have a name? If not, how about "Reach for the Sky"?

So each Zamor Launcher is indepentantly controlled by a nxt with a accelerator. Someone named it Sally when they were drunk round my house. I am thinking of something like BAR (Big big behind Robot)

That's actually what its based on but only 1 kid worked it out. Also mini guns weigh too much, the main arm would snap ( and did)

With out a lot of work I think your right, this just would not turn on the carpet at the event. I could take out the pneumatic lift arm and that would allow me to reduce the counter balance alot!! there is 2 nxt's and 16 train weights as a counter balance

Just make its face more aggressive. Then you don't only scare Kids. Everybody will be screaming and running away!!!

To be fair the looks were rushed for the show. I wanted more cannons on it and evil red lights lol

I also designed motion tracking but that was on a different model

That's not big, it's massive!

Can't seem to find the link to the video (if you posted one) - Any plans to do something with the camera or is it just for looks?

I going to try and make a video at the weekend and version 2 will feature my motion tracking stuff that I have built but that is for the future.

Astounding!

You should be entering this in the Robot Wars! Or probably not

Going forward it has a heck of a lot of force and power, people were surprised at the speed of the thing! No gearing just XL motors

looked good but never got chance to see it in action even though i was displaying 20ft away!! lol did see the other robot things working tho.

What where you displaying?

i'd just brought 1 model down on the sunday, (UCS Slave-1) it was with Tim & Peter's next to Dr S's display.

Thanks, i'm always over on the star wars forums, and just pop in here from time to time to see whats new.
