DLuders Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Here's a by lorirocks777 of a HUGE model of the Lego Technic 8258 Crane Truck set. It's at least 10 times bigger than the stock Lego set! Park one of these outside of your garage! Quote

Siegfried Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Crazy! It looks mostly LEGO too; a few thing like the lights aren't but... wow! Quote
CP5670 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 TLG seems to build these huge models at promotional launch events for those sets. There was also a similar model of 8285 posted here at one point. Quote

Benly Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I missed that one. But the cost! Surely though it would cost thousands to make; is it really worth the benefits? I imagine these flagship models need a little more publicity when compared to Star Wars or City kits or even the smaller Technic sets. The reason I think this is because the flagships don't appear in every department store/toy shop. Customers may need to go out of their way to search for one (certainly is the case in Australia as I'm sure you know ) Of course, that thought could be entirely false and it could just done to demonstrate what TLG can do if they flex their muscles. Either way it's impressive! Quote
mortenm Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) That's insane! I remember TLG did the same thing when the 8880 hit the market - there's something here: http://technicbricks.blogspot.com/2008/11/scaled-up-technic-cars.html It has also been done with the 8386 - Ferrari F1 Edited October 6, 2010 by mortenm Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 This bigger version was already on display at the Nuremburg Toy Fair in Febuary 2009! Never the less; it's a massive and impressive thing. (But i wouldn't have it on display in my house!) Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 All it needs now are a couple of hundred XL motors to motorise it Quote
Front Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 This bigger version was already on display at the Nuremburg Toy Fair in Febuary 2009! ... and it was actually built for this event, the Toy Fair. Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 It's very cool to see all the technic bricks being built with normal bricks. Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Oh my, that's almost life-sized. Shame we don't get any cool displays like that in Australia... Quote
DLuders Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Thanks to JunkstyleGio for tracking down the origin of this big display truck. Conchas had previously shown it on TechnicBRICKS. From HobbyMedia.it, here's another angle of the display: From ltd1870's Brickshelf gallery, here's a closeup of the driver's cab: Edited October 6, 2010 by DLuders Quote
Blakbird Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Interesting. A fully studded System model of a fully studless Technic model. The 8258 set has no studs, only Technic parts, and lots of functions. The "display" has a thousand times more parts, but they are all System bricks so there are no technical functions (lights don't count). It is a magnificent display though. I'm sure it drew many people over to the booth to look at the set. I wonder how they transport that thing? It could easily weigh hundreds or even a thousand pounds. They must have a forklift and special trailer just for it. Quote
