Hey there peeps, just checking in from Malaysia. New to the forums, not quite new to Lego. Played it when I was a kid, and recently taking it up again with the UCS Star Wars sets.

I'm a sucker for realistic scaled models and got myself the UCS Falcon, Star Destroyer and most recently completed the Imperial Shuttle.

Been looking at the MOC (what does MOC stand for?) sets and special themed builds and really really impressed by what you guys can do.

Lego's extremely expensive over at this part of the world, and loose part purchases in the stores are unheard of.

Cheers all!

Wow! Lots of new members from Malaysia! Well, two anyway.

I'm staying in Gelang Patah until November 19th. I've been here since July working on the new LEGOLAND park. I'm from the States so it's been quite an adventure for me here. I lived in JB for about two weeks until they moved me closer to the site.

Welcome to Eurobricks! I hope you have fun here. :sweet:

Hi there! Thanks for replying.. I'm actually quite surprised to hear that piece of news from you on the Legoland Park in Johor. Thought that was a fictional morale-boosting plan like most things are here. ;p

Have fun in Malaysia... the only one thing I can recommend is the food... and durians ;p

Welcome to Eurobricks.

It's good to see new Asian members joining in the community. What themes do you like? See you around.

Hello fellow Asian and welcome to Eurobricks! It's great to know another LSW fan amonst us. Do enjoy you stay here and see you around the forums.

Ohh, that would be great if there will be Legoland in Johor, much nearer to our country compared to other Legoland locations.

Durians? Love it! Smells default_sick.gif but tastes default_thumbup.gifdefault_thumbup.gifdefault_thumbup.gifdefault_laugh2.gif

It is for real. Just give it a couple of years and it will be ready. :sweet:

YES!!! That's great news! Now I don't have to go to far countries just to come to Legoland. Just a short trip to SG (first destination), then on to Malaysia. default_classic.gif

I ate durian long before I came here. Not horrible, but it's something I would never do voluntarily. What's the point?

I love the food here, though. Chinese Carrot Cake, steamboat, coconut, Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai, Cili Padi, Satay, just to name a few. And I love how spicy everything is and how many variations of spicy there are! Yeah, the food is my favorite part. I really love it. And you can buy it anywhere. Food is everywhere. In the middle of a highway there's a food stall. Fresh satay. Thanks. See you later, don't get hit by a motorbike. Are you near Johor?

Welcome to Eurobricks! Hope you enjoy the site! :classic:

Welcome. Welcome.

You're right. The price here is more expensive compared to our nearest neighbor Singapore. For loose parts and minifigures, I had to buy from oversea like US and UK even Korea. But I had some bad experience when some of the minifigures I bought never arrived (lost in postage). :sing:

Welcome to the forum, glad to see someone with the ucs bug. I'm jealous of your SW ucs collection. Hopefully we'll see you around!

Hi Darth Baboon, good to see you here as well :classic:

Usually I hang out at both Eurobricks and Bricksmal (our local web forum) to past time. I also did some reviews here as well.

@ Hinckley, nice to hear from you regarding the Legoland in Nusajaya!

Thanks guys for the welcome.

@White Fang - I'm into SW UCS sets

@KielDaMan - I'm in Selangor. But that's just a 4 hour drive from JB. Not too far.

Singapore is ridiculously expensive too. I can't believe the prices they charge out here. They're sky-high compared to the States.

Yes, it's real. I don't know why there's so much skepticism towards this park. But, rest assured it's real. I'm sitting here right now prototyping a model of a famous site. Actually, I'm surfing EB and should be prototyping...

Thanks guys for the welcome.

I think it was me who asked, but either way, cool! I know where that is. I leave here in 34 days, though.

I never ever buy Lego locally. It's too cost prohibitive for joe-salaryman, esp when Lego.com shows you what peeps are paying for in the States.

As for the skepticism, it's not only directed to the park, but towards "mega" projects here in general. As mentioned earlier, there's a lot of "feel-good" "morale-boosting" projects, or projects that overshoot their budget by multiple times, or cancelled projects, or white elephants.... all norms in a developing economy (with no accountability).

Leaving in a month for good or just for a vacation? :classic:

Whatever do you mean?

For good! I'm needed for the Florida project. I'll be back in two years to install. Maybe before that too, depending on what further help they need developing here.

Yes I would like to buy bigger and cheaper sets from oversea. Some sets don't even reach our shore yet (like new Harry Potter sets 2010)- I just came back from the Gardens in KL.

But as I mentioned earlier, even minifigs lost in postage. I'm not confident to pay more than usd100 for any lego sets outside malaysia. I dont know whether the postal service or the custom check that holding me back from getting my purchase.

But it depends on luck too.

I'm surprised that Brickboy have not begin selling the Harry Potter sets yet. The online shop which I usually buy my Lego from already has the HP sets in. The online store is Brickbastion and the owner do COD if you are in Klang Valley area.

So far I have bought only 1 Lego set from overseas, which is the Launch and Load seaport from Singapore. Even then, only with a help of a friend in Singapore to haul it back to KL for me. Did not want to deal with customs.

@ Hinckley, I hope the Legoland park does not charge too high of a fee to enter, otherwise can hop across the causeway to the Sands or Universal Studios. Also I hope that the price of Lego inside the park itself isn't too expensive as well. Not a very healthy proposition when not many Lego sets can move due to the insane price yes? I am sure Legoland parks overseas get part of the revenue from Lego set sales as well. RM 550 for the latest technic mobile crane is seriously not cheap, what more a RM 990 8258 crane truck  Some workers even bring home less than that!!! Also Lego rarely goes on sale here, unlike Singapore where there is the Great Singapore sale!

Unless TLG is willing to lower the price of Lego here, then the park might be profitable (come to JB to buy cheap Lego , good for JB's economy too)

I've been wondering about that too. Only time will tell. I know nothing of these matters though. My focus is on model design...

Quick question if you don't mind... I'm curious as to where MOC-ers get those ridiculously large quantities of bricks from? Direct from TLG? Can we actually buy a specific block in packs of say 100 or 1000 for a much cheaper price? I'm thinking piece by piece purchase from bricklink is gonna be either really expensive or really tedious.

For Legoland you guys get truckloads of bricks for free I guess.
